School Security Guard Arrested For Sexual Assault www.privateofficer.com
LOS ANGELES CA. Nov. 1 2007 Los Angeles police have arrested a school security guard in connection with the alleged sexual assault of an 11-year-old female student at Gompers Middle School. The alleged assault occured on the morning of October 26, say the police. According to investigators, at approximately 10:30, a security guard identified as Donald Johnson (aka D.J.) saw two female students on their way to class and stopped them.
He allegedly told one of the girls to return to class and told the other he was taking her to the attendance office in another building. Investigators say that when he got the girl outside, the 42-year-old Johnson put his hand over her mouth and then began reaching under her clothing. He told her he would kill her if she told anyone about the molestation, say authorities.
Johnson, who has worked at the school as a guard for four years following a stint as a janitor there, was arrested on October 29 and booked him on a charge of kidnap for the purpose of sexual assault. Detective Oscar Gamino said given the nature of the crime, he suspects there could be other victims.
“We are asking that they come forward and report it,” Gamino said.Johnson’s bail was set at $1 million.

Guard Weaves Story Of Being Shot www.privateofficer.com
MESA, Ariz. Nov. 1 2007 — A security guard who initially claimed he was shot at a Mesa apartment complex admits he made the whole story up, police said.
Detectives said Andrew Grossman, 24, of Scottsdale, revealed he put his protective vest against a wall and then fired two shots into it in a hoax perpetrated to make it look like he was shot.
Grossman was working as a guard on Sept. 23 when he summoned officers and told them that two masked men shot him while he was on patrol.
Grossman claimed he exchanged gunfire and told police be thought he might have struck one of them.
On Tuesday, Mesa police detectives said they interviewed Grossman again and administered a voice stress test.
A detective then interviewed him again and afterwards said Grossman confessed the story was a fabrication.
Investigators said he also admitted to opening a police radio channel and firing three more shots into the ground.
Police reports don’t explain why Grossman made the story up.

Fort Smith Ar. Nov. 1, 2007
Fort Smith police are searching for a suspected shoplifter who evaded capture in a manner that may have injured her infant child.Police were dispatched to Central Mall at 4:45 p.m. Saturday in response to reports that two women shoplifted several hundred dollars in clothing from The Buckle, as well as apparel from Abercrombie & Fitch and Vanity.
Officer Derek Harwood met with store employees, mall security personnel and one of the suspects, 19-year-old Crystal Crowley, according to a police report.Buckle employee Mitzi Bailey told Harwood that she noticed Crowley and another white female with a baby and a stroller in the front dressing room. Bailey said she offered to help the women, but they declined when the infant began crying, according to the report.Bailey said she and co-worker Lacy Jiminez sifted through numerous pairs of jeans and shirts the customers left in the dressing room and found a T-shirt that was missing a security sensor and a pair of jeans with three sensors stuffed in one of its back pockets.Bailey said she and Jiminez were following both women through the mall when three Abercrombie & Fitch employees noticed and told them that the women had shoplifted from their store as well.
Bailey said she and her co-worker approached the suspected shoplifters and invited them back to their store to talk. She said Crowley complied, but the woman with the baby became highly defensive and left mall with her baby, the report states.Jiminez told Harwood that she and two security officers followed the suspect outside. She said the suspect approached a vehicle and threw the baby into a car seat inside, but did not strap the infant in. The suspect backed out of the parking space and almost struck security officer Larry Boyce, the report states. After the suspect backed out in the wrong direction, Jiminez said, she turned the wheel, causing the baby to fly out of the car seat and land hard on the floorboard on either its side or head, according to the report.
Crowley returned to The Buckle, Bailey said, and revealed each layer of her clothing, which included a pair of jeans from The Buckle and a shirt from Vanity. She said that Crowley admitted to stealing apparel from all three stores.Bailey told Harwood that $540 in merchandise was stolen and a shirt was torn in a spot where the sensor was located, according to the report.Harwood met with Abercrombie employee Amanda Cockrum, who told him that after Crowley was apprehended she walked to The Buckle and found the suspect wearing two tank tops with sensor holes in them. Crowley told the officer that her accomplice had torn tags from Abercrombie & Fitch clothing.Cockrum said that when Crowley and the other suspect left the store, she found that 32 sensors had been removed from stolen clothes and hidden in jean pockets.Another Abercrombie employee said five to six folded shirts could be seen in the bottom of the suspect’s stroller. Cockrum estimated the value of the stolen clothing at $1,000, the report states.Crowley was arrested on suspicion of shoplifting $500-$2,500.
The suspect who fled is described as a 19-year-old female with short, blond hair. Boyce described the suspect’s vehicle as small and box-like.Harwood traced the license plate to a maroon 2005 Toyota Scion, the report states.

Otis Jackson, 24, of 4 Windsor Terrace, White Plains; Gerald Joseph, 23, of 168 N. Burglars Smash And Grab At Malls www.privateofficer.com
BURGLARS SMASH AND GRAB AT MALL www.privateofficer.com
Austin TX. Nov. 1, 2007
Burglars took sledgehammers into Barton Creek Square Mall for a quick Rolex heist.
Though customers were shopping inside the store, the four men got away with thousands of dollars in watches.
It happened at Tuesday at 8 p.m. at the Ben Bridge jewelry store, and it was caught on tape. The burglars walked straight toward the Rolex watch case, smashed the glass with sledgehammers and grabbed a couple dozen Rolex watches before leaving.
“The mall was open for business,” said Austin Police Department Detective Matt Greer. “There were people inside the store at the time. They came in and basically just smashed the cases, took the jewelry and left.” Investigators believe the four men walked a couple hundred feet through the mall with the sledgehammers in hand before Ben Bridge cameras caught them stealing the watches and leaving.
“I’d call it bold,” said Greer.
Police said the men likely cased the store ahead of time, because they seemed to know exactly what they wanted and worked fast.
The suspects wore hooded sweatshirts and hats.
“They’re described as dark-skinned males, and so we’re not sure at this point if they’re Hispanic or black,” said Greer. Witnesses said the men were driving a red- or orange-colored sports utility vehicle with a temporary license plate.
Detectives are asking anyone with information about this case to call APD.
Police said as the holidays approach, it becomes easier to sell hot items on the black market.
Austin could see more smash-and-grab cases in the next couple of weeks. Police are also on the lookout for another smash-and-grab suspect who hit the Blue Elephant Boutique on N. Lamar Boulevard in the Central Market shopping center.
Police said around 5 a.m. Monday, the suspects stole $23,000 worth of designer jeans and shirts, but the majority of the stolen merchandise was recovered.
Austin police pursued an SUV that was leaving the parking lot and arrested the driver, Demonica Deon Runnels, who crashed the vehicle into a tree in West Austin.
Police said an accomplice got away from the crime scene and is still at large.

Police Shoot Hostage Taker At Rite-Aid www.privateofficer.com
Officer Shoots Hostage Taker At Rite- Aid www.privateofficer.com
Sacramento Ca. Nov. 1 2007 Late Wednesday night, a Sacramento police officer shot a man who was holding a knife to the throat of a hostage at the Rite Aid Store on Alhambra Boulevard, authorities said.
The 24-year-old suspect, who was shot in the face, was in serious condition but is expected to survive, Sacramento Police Department spokesman Sgt. Matt Young said.
He said the suspect had attempted to rob the store, injured two employees and was holding the store’s staff as hostage.
Both victims suffered non-life threatening head injuries. All three were taken to area hospitals, Young said.
Officers arrived on scene around 11:50 p.m., shortly after receiving a report of a robbery at the store on Alhambra Boulevard and L Street, Young said.
Investigators believe the suspect had been loitering around the store for a period of time apparently attempting to obtain some medication. It is unclear if man had a valid prescription or what prompted him to suddenly attack a woman pharmacy employee attending to him, Young said.
When another worker tried to intervene, the suspect allegedly assaulted him, the spokesman said. When police arrived, four officers entered through the front door, and, as they made their way to the back of the store, they spotted the injured male employee bleeding and being helped by another person.
Young said the officers then spotted the suspect behind the pharmacy counter, with his arm around the neck of a 25-year-old female employee and holding a large knife to her throat. Believing the woman’s life was in imminent danger, Young said, an officer fired a single shot.
“It’s extremely likely that the officer who fired the shot saved the young lady’s life,” Young said.
The suspect fell to the ground and the officers administered first aid to the suspect using bandages and other supplies from the pharmacy counter until paramedics arrived.
Several units of the police department, including internal affairs and homicide divisions, were on scene to investigate, a procedure followed by the department whenever an officer-involved shooting occurs, Young said.
Witnesses inside the store were also being interviewed.
Authorities have not released the identities of the officer, suspect or victims, but Young said the officer has worked for the department for four years as a patrol officer. The officer has been placed on paid administrative leave in accordance with department policy.

Robbers Shoot It Out With Security Officer By; Rick McCann www.privateofficer.com
Baton Rouge, LA. Nov.1 2007 An armed man exchanged fire with a shopping center security guard Tuesday after a robbery at a store near the Southdowns neighborhood.
The man, with two lookouts, had just held up the Gameware store at 3151 College Drive, near Perkins Road, about 8:35 p.m., Baton Rouge Police Department spokesman Cpl. L’Jean McKneely said.
While leaving the store, the robber spotted a private security guard and fired one shot at him but missed, police said. The guard returned fire, hitting the robber multiple times.
The robber, whose name was not reported, was taken to the hospital by EMS with life-threatening injuries, McKneely said.
His two accomplices fled in a green, older-model Pontiac, and police were still looking for them late Tuesday.
The Gameware store and most of the other shops and restaurants in the center were open when the robbery occurred.
The security guard, who also was not named Tuesday, was hired by business owners at the College Creek Shopping Center after an armed robbery of the Quiznos store in the same area in late August, said Quiznos employee Genie Johnson.
Johnson said she was standing outside the store Tuesday when she saw a man come around the corner and put on a ski mask.
She said she alerted the guard, who was inside the Quiznos, and he confronted the robber, who fired first.
Police were investigating whether this robbery was related to a recent string of similar robberies of fast-food restaurants, police Lt. Roger Tully said.

Shoplifting Escalates, 1 Stabbed, Officer Injured by; Rick McCann www.privateofficer.com
Wilmington N.C. Nov. 1, 2007
What started as a petty shoplifting at Wal-Mart ended with the stabbing of an assistant manager, an injured police officer and the theft of a police vehicle on Tuesday, police said.
Shawn Lacy Thompson, 47, is charged with two charges of assault with a deadly weapon, robbery and larceny of a motor vehicle.Thompson has previous convictions for crimes that include larceny, speeding to elude arrest, receiving a stolen vehicle, assault on a female, breaking and entering and burglary.
About 11:17 a.m., a man shoplifted three DVDs from Wal-Mart at 5226 Sigmon Road, police said.Wal-Mart employees tried to apprehend the man in the parking lot, but it wasn’t until the man cut himself trying to scale a barbed-wire fence on the edge of the property that two assistant managers caught up with him, said Wilmington police spokeswoman Lucy Crockett. While a 30-year-old assistant manager restrained the suspect, the other one called 911.In the process, the suspect stabbed the 30-year-old assistant manager in the arm and leg, Crockett said. The assistant manager was taken to the hospital with puncture wounds, she said.Calls began to flood the 911 center as witnesses reported the incident. One witness briefly followed the suspect, providing a description to dispatchers, Crockett said.
The suspect ran away and was later spotted by a plainclothes officer near Miller-Motte College. The police officer, Christopher Mayo, 31, a five-year member of the police department, jumped out of his unmarked vehicle and tried to stop the suspect. The suspect overpowered the officer, hopped into the car and started to drive away. The vehicle contained a weapon and ammunition that were not easily accessible to the suspect, Crockett said. The police officer tried to prevent him from driving away, injuring his wrist, Crockett said. She said most marked squad cars are equipped with an anti-theft device, but that his vehicle was not.”Officers are frequently in situations where they jump out of the vehicle,” she said. “In patrol, they leave the car running but they have anti-theft devices.”The suspect drove the police vehicle to Princess Place Drive and Manly Avenue where he hit a fire hydrant, ditching the vehicle in a wooded area.In this case, Mayo had a “description of a violent person and he spotted the person,” she said. “His first concern was to try to get the guy, and it’s unfortunate that it got so dangerous.”
The suspect then ran into a nearby apartment in the 400 block of Henry Street where he was staying. Neighbors notified police where to find him and officers finally were able to subdue him and transport him to the city jail where he is being currently being held.
