Police say that a hospital security guard has been arrested for stealing from one of the shops on the property that he had been hired to protect.
Burglary and theft charges were filed against a Middle Tennessee Medical Center security guard videotaped while allegedly stealing cash from a new mother’s boutique last week, authorities said.
Guard Derrick M. Williams, 40, of 517 Federal Court Murfreesboro, was charged after the videotape showed him with using a master key to enter the shop where he allegedly stole $217, Officer Shondale Clark reported.
MTMC spokeswoman Angie Boyd-Chambers said Williams was accused of entering the Lactation Boutique, a shop in the Baptist Women’s Pavilion that carries merchandise for breast-feeding mothers. He was relieved of his duties after his arrest.“An investigation is underway to see if the theft is linked to other thefts that have occurred on our campus,” Boyd-Chambers said.
Clark responded to MTMC last Tuesday where Security Director John Davis reported he was notified about a theft from the boutique. Davis reviewed surveillance video showing a man he identified as the off-duty Williams taking a master key off the wall and entering the boutique with a key.“Williams went into the boutique’s adjacent manager’s office and got the key to the filing cabinet before he entered the boutique,” Clark reported. He returned to the security office and talked with on-duty officers before leaving.
Davis contacted Murfreesboro Police and obtained arrest warrants charging Williams who was taken into custody by Clark and Detectives Katrina Henderson and Kerry Thorpe. He was taken to the police department for an interview being booked into Rutherford County Adult Detention Center. A hearing is pending in General Sessions Court.
