KANSAS CITY, Mo. Feb 11, 2008 — Police say a Kansas City security officer fatally shot a shoplifting suspect who had stabbed him, the Kansas City Star reports. The security officer’s stab wounds were not considered life-threatening.
The incident happened about 8:40 last night. The guard was on duty at a grocery store when he saw a man trying to steal. When the suspect fled, the security officer chased him about two blocks. At that point a struggle ensued and police say the suspect stabbed the guard in the upper body, and the guard fired his gun wounding the suspect.
The suspect was pronounced dead at a hospital.
Kansas City police did not immediately release the suspect and guard’s names.
