Security officer may be wanted for sexual assault www.privateofficer.com

Security News Magazine/www.privateofficer.com
Police are investigating a woman’s complaint that an officer sexually assaulted her in a city building several months ago.
The woman stepped before City Council Tuesday night with claims that she was sexually assaulted by a Greensboro police officer.
But after having a private discussion between Deputy City Manager Bob Morgan and Pat Boswell, the city’s public relations director and her authorities have determined that it was not a city police officer, but a private security officer that may be involved in the assault.
Donna Lundy, of 200 Spring Garden St. apartment 514, spoke before council during the public comment session at Tuesday night’s council meeting with claims she was sexually assaulted by a Greensboro police officer and no one was willing to listen to her claims.
“I am the victim of a sexual assault,” Lundy said. “Every time I talk to someone about it. They say they can’t do anything about it.”
Lundy said she was assaulted and called the police for help, but was told that nothing could be done about it. She said believes the department’s special victims unit is covering her case up.
.”She’s got complaints on how the police department is dealing with it,” Morgan said. “She has multiple complaints on how it’s being handled with the police department and in the courts.”
Morgan said he advised the woman to have her attorney to contact the city so they could look into her claims.
If Ms. Lundy was indeed assaulted a crime has been committed we will deal with that and go forward against the security officer Morgan said.

A Shreveport man is in trouble and has been arrested over the weekend for taking pictures of women’s derrieres at a local store.
Police say that they were called to the store after the husband of one of the women saw a man following his wife and taking pictures. He confronted the man and dialed 911.
Police say that Ernest Anye, 36, was using a camera to take about 30 pictures of parts of the women’s bodies as they shopped at the Wal-Mart on Shreveport-Barksdale Highway Saturday night, police said
Store security was able to locate him still on Walmart property and took him into custody and detained him until police arrived.
He was arrested after officers determined that he had been taking pictures of womans rear ends and he was later booked on a charge of video voyeurism.
Police Department spokeswoman Kacee Hargrave said Anye told officers he intended to use the pictures for self-gratification.
Police have seized the camera.
It was not made known whether Anye posted bond or if he confessed to other similar crimes.

Grandpa arrested for shoplifting spree www.privateofficer.com

Wilmington Ohio April 2 2008
Items shoplifted from several Blanchester businesses have been recovered after a resident of the village was caught shoplifting in one of the stores.
William Tolle, 61, of East Cherry Street, Blanchester, was arrested Tuesday night and charged with four counts of theft, all first-degree misdemeanors, said Blanchester Police Chief Scott Reinbolt.
Blanchester Patrolman Edwin McFadden III was summoned to the CVS store at 610 E. Cherry St. on the afternoon of Feb. 28 after a vigilant store manager saw indications a person in the store was shoplifting, Reinbolt said. “Upon his arrival, Ptl. McFadden encountered the suspect, later identified as William Tolle, leaving the store.”
Reinbolt said based upon evidence found at the store, Ptl. McFadden interviewed Tolle, who admitted to stealing a digital alarm clock valued at around $10.
“After interviewing Tolle further, he admitted to taking hundreds of dollars worth of retail items from CVS, Dollar General at 662 W. Main St., Blanchester, Family Dollar at 620 E. Cherry St., Blanchester, and the Main Street Antique Mall at 102 W. Main St., Blanchester, over a two-week time span.”
A search of Tolle’s residence by Blanchester police led to the recovery of over 50 stolen items, including clock radios, watches, tools and other retail items, Reinbolt said.

Children plot to kill teacher; No April Fools Joke www.privateofficer.com

Children plot to kill teacher No April Fools Joke www.privateofficer.com

WAYCROSS, Ga. April 2 2008
by: Rick McCann
Ntl Assoc. Private Officers
www.privateofficer.com — Police say they have questioned a group of south Georgia third-graders about a plot to kill their teacher, apparently because she had scolded one of them for standing on a chair.
Authorities have now determined that it was no april fools joke nor was it just kids talking. They were serious and they had plans and gathered the necassary items to help them to complete their task police say.
The nine students are too young to be charged with a crime under Georgia law, a prosecutor told the Times-Union of Jacksonville, Fla. They include girls and boys, ages 8 and 9.
Authorities withheld the Center Elementary School students’ names.
Police said each student had been assigned a “job” to do. One was even assigned to clean up the blood after the attack.
Waycross Police Chief Tony Tanner says school officials alerted police last week after a pupil tipped off a teacher that a girl had brought a weapon to school.
During their investigation police learned of the plot and determined that it was a real threat and not just some little kids talking officers said.
“We estimate between six to nine students were involved. We’re not sure at this point in the investigation how many of the students actually knew the intent was to hurt the teacher,” Tanner told the Times-Union.
Officials said the parents of the students have cooperated with investigators. By law police officials cannot question children without their parents’ or guardians’ consent.
He says police seized a broken steak knife, handcuffs, duct tape, electrical and transparent tape, ribbons and a crystal paperweight from the students, who apparently intended to use them against the teacher.
Criminally, there will be no charges police say but the school system will begin to take steps to either suspend or remove the children from school for the rest of the year.

TSA Agents nab man with explosives www.privateofficer.com

TSA Agents nab man with explosives in luggage www.privateofficer.com

Orlando Florida April 2 2008

A Jamaican planning to board a flight at Orlando International Airport was detained and questioned by FBI agents Tuesday after they found components for pipe bombs and explosive and flammable liquids in his checked luggage.
The suspect was identified late Tuesday as Kevin Brown, 32, a Jamaican national who was scheduled to fly on Air Jamaica Flight 80 to Montego Bay at 2:55 p.m. Transportation Security Administration officers spotted him acting suspiciously about noon, TSA and law-enforcement officials said.
Several officials said the man was “acting strange” and questioned his mental stability.Brown was charged with attempting to carry an explosive or incendiary device on an aircraft and booked into theSeminole County Jail late Tuesday.
He will appear before a federal judge in Orlando today.
Wearing blue jeans and a white shirt, Brown was searched by a bomb technician on a curb outside the airport terminal. His camouflage-style backpack also was seized and searched by an Orlando Fire Department bomb squad.
TSA searched his luggage and found “suspicious items,” according to TSA officials. Among the items seized were two galvanized pipes, end caps, two small containers of BB pellets, batteries, two containers of liquids, a laptop computer and bomb-making literature, according to an FBI statement released Tuesday night.
The search took place during the busy spring-break vacation season, with many visitors departing town after attending WrestleMania 24 on Sunday. Orlando police sealed off a 300-foot perimeter near the check-in counters at Terminal A for more than two hours while bomb-squad technicians searched the suspect and his backpack at curbside. Several airlines, including Air Canada, WestJet, Air Jamaica and Virgin Atlantic, had flights delayed.Joel Salazar, 25, who was en route to Lima, Peru, was among the hundreds of confused travelers standing in long, snaking lines and waiting for direction from airport personnel.”Nobody told us what was going on,” Salazar said.
Lee Kair, the top TSA official in Orlando, would not give details about the seized materials in the luggage, the suspect or whether he was traveling with anyone.”I can say there was no immediate threat to passengers in the terminal,” Kair said.
Authorities also said they did not think the materials posed a direct threat to passengers on the plane.Brown was detected by a TSA “behavioral specialist” trained since 2006 in spotting involuntary actions by people being deceptive, Kair said.
After the passenger checked in his bag, officials diverted it from the normal screening process, looked inside and found the prohibited items. Officers later confronted him.”It’s really a testament to the system working,” Kair said. He did not say how far the suspect got into the airport before being taken into custody.U.S. Rep. John Mica, R- Winter Park, a member of the House Transportation Committee, said he was briefed by TSA on Tuesday but could not discuss details for security reasons.”If what TSA has described to me is true, it’s probably the most serious incident we’ve had at OIA,” said Mica, former chairman of the House Aviation Subcommittee. “At least one and possibly two [security] backup systems we put in place worked.”FBI spokesman Dave Couvertier said agents detained the man and questioned him about the items found in his luggage.Airport officials temporarily routed passengers away from the Virgin Atlantic and Air Jamaica check-in areas at Terminal A.
Flight operations and check-in continued elsewhere, according to the TSA.Air Jamaica Chairwoman Shirley Williams said the man, who was born in Jamaica and carried a passport from that country, lives in the United States and used his green card to check in at the airport. She said Flight 80 took off at 5:31 p.m. with 96 passengers aboard.OIA spokeswoman Carolyn Fennell said 11 of the daily 1,000 commercial, private and cargo flights were affected. The incident occurred about noon; it was 5:30 p.m. before operations returned to normal.Passengers at the airport described confusion in Terminal A, where they were forced to abandon luggage at ticket counters and faced long lines when they were allowed to return.Janet Lawe was almost to the ticket counter about noon when airport officials announced that the area was being evacuated.”We were also told there was a guy with an explosive,” said Lawe, 40, who was visiting from Kingston, Jamaica, with her husband and two children.
The family was booked on the same flight as Brown.Tuesday’s incident follows a security breach at OIA in March 2007, when federal agents arrested two airline employees who used their security privileges to smuggle 13 handguns, a rifle and 8 pounds of marijuana aboard a Delta flight to San Juan, Puerto Rico. The incident prompted the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority to spend $5 million on security upgrades.

Judge sends fire victim to jail for shoplifting www.privateofficer.com

by: Bryan Hill
Security News Magazine/www.privateofficer.com
Bellevue, NE – April 2 2008 A woman who lost her daughter and two granddaughters in a fire last July has received more bad news today from a Sarpy County District Court judge.
The judge saying that he was sorry for her loss and her pain, sentenced her to one year in jail for shoplifting.
Authorities say that the shoplifting incident had happened before the deadly fire and the court had been understanding in delaying the sentencing for the theft offense.
Police nor court officials said why they felt that Cecelia Guevara should be sentenced to such a long time for a shoplifting crime but it may have been her criminal history. The court did not make her criminal record known.
Shortly after the fire, the state put Cecelia Guevara’s surviving children in protective custody. They remain wards of the state today.

Police capture shoplifting ring leader www.privateofficer.com

Posted by privateofficernews on April 2, 2008

Police capture shoplifting ring leader www.privateofficer.com

From Aiken Standard
Aiken SC April 2 2008 An Aiken County man who has made a habit of running from police had an unexpected visit from South Carolina, Georgia and City of Aiken law enforcement officers Friday morning, according to officials.
William M. Fields, 37, of Warrenville, was captured shortly before noon at the Georgia Inn on Belair Road in Columbia County, said a spokesperson with the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.
Fields waived extradition late Friday and Aiken Public Safety brought him back to Aiken and is now being held at the Aiken County detention center.
For several months in 2006, Fields was listed as one of Aiken Public Safety’s Most Wanted suspects on allegations he was the leader of a well-orchestrated shoplifting ring.
After narrowly escaping arrest several times, Aiken Public Safety investigators said the man contacted them in August 2006 and said he would turn himself in, but police gave the suspect a deadline to surrender, and that day came and went, officials said.
Shortly after that, while still on the run, Fields contacted the Aiken Standard to take issue with the Public Safety’s description of him as the “ring leader” behind the operation.
“I’m not saying I wasn’t involved … I might be accessories to one or two of the charges they’re talking about, but I ain’t never walked out of the store with stuff,” he said in September of 2006.
Fields was able to avoid capture until December 2006 when Public Safety, working with a number of other local and state agencies, including Aiken and Edgefield counties sheriff’s offices, arrested him after a footchase near a mobile home just outside of North Augusta in Edgefield County.
He was jailed but was out on a $75,000 bond when his case went to court in December 2007.
The day after the jury was selected, the Warrenville man skipped out on his trial, and police, once again, began searching for the man.
On Friday the chase came to an end, officials said.
“Our investigation led us to Columbia County and he was picked up immediately,” Aiken Public Safety Detective Kirk Owen said. “He didn’t put up a fight.”
Fields is accused of stealing merchandise valued at more than $7,000 from the Target on Whiskey Road in June 2006 and, along with a man and two minors, is accused of stealing an estimated $1,500 worth of goods from an Aiken Bi-Lo grocery store the following month, according to arrest warrants.
Public Safety officers spent several months in 2006 looking for Fields, eventually arresting a number of his alleged cohorts.
He is charged with felony shoplifting, shoplifting of more than $1,000 and two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Other charges may be pending.

Shoppers subdue robber after store manager stabbed www.privateofficer.com

Shoppers subdue robber after manager stabbed www.privateofficer.com

RIDLEY TOWNSHIP, Pa. -. April 2 2008

It’s the last thing that any shopper would expect while shopping on a quiet Sunday afternoon. One minute you’re leisurely walking through the store and the next you’re faced with a life or death situation as you find yourself running to the aid of a store employee who is being robbed by a knife wielding shoplifter.
But two unrelated men named Whelan, one of them a county councilman, was brought together at the CVS on McDade Boulevard in a life or death struggle with a crazed shoplifter and not only were they able to subdue the robber but they may have very well saved the store clerk’s life.
Photos from a surveillance camera tell just part of the story. A violent struggle with a man wielding a utility knife. It started when a manager caught him shoplifting. But, the man pulled the knife and started slashing.
Jack Whelan jumped in to help. He was joined by Gene Whelan, who is not related to the first Whelan. The men tumbled to the ground as they struggled to get the attacker off the store manager. Jack Whelan managed to slam his hand to the floor, knocking the knife free. It was a mighty struggle as the three men rolled on the floor violently, but they finally managed to subdue the attacker.
The store manager was badly cut, and came within a centimeter of losing his life.
Gene Whelan was also injured. He went to the hospital with a possible fractured elbow.
The police say he and Jack are heroes but they both disagree.
The suspect in this attack has been identified by police as 49-year-old Cebrain Spence of Chester. He has been arrested before for shoplifting at the same drug store. Now he faces much more serious charges, including attempted murder and multiple assault counts. Police say he was high on drugs when he attacked the store manager and that’s why it took three men to subdue him.
The store manager doesn’t want to be identified but.his manager say he is expected to make a full recovery, and they are extremely grateful for what two men, on a routine shopping trip did for their employee. Heroic, couregous, just unbelievable one manager said. They did something that they didn’t have to do and risked their own life. They could have ran away but they stayed and got involved. It’s what the world needs more of a police officer said.

Target employee arrested for robbing store www.privateofficer.com

Target employee arrested for trying to rob store www.privateofficer.com

Miami Fla. April 2 2008
Police said they have arrested one man and are searching for two possible accomplices after a robbery at a Target store on Friday afternoon.
According to Miami police, three men tried to pull off an armed robbery at a new Target store in the Midtown Miami development just before 3 p.m.
Security officers were watching as a man told a cashier to turn off her register light, NBC 6’s Ari Odzer reported. The man told the cashier he was armed and demanded money, police said.
Police said that officers and security officers converged on the robber as he was trying to get into elevators that would take him to the parking garage. They were able to get him into custody but said two other men who were with him left the store by another route and escaped.
“He was able to leave the store with this money, but all of the money was recovered immediately,” said Officer Martha Carbana of the Miami Police Department.
The suspect arrested in the case was 18-year-old Victor Velton Ivory. “He is a Target employee, but as of today, he’s no longer an employee,” Carbana said.
Carbana said Ivory had been working at the store since Feb. 24.
“He wasn’t immediately recognized because he was under disguise,” Carbana said. “We believe that he probably knew where security cameras were because this whole time, he’s looking down, trying to avoid the cameras and trying not to be recognized.”
In a statement issued on Friday, the Target Corporation said it is glad that no one was injured in the incident.
