Marshall University police say that they responded to a man with a gun call and was involved in a pursuit with the suspect that ended with a shootout with the man.
University police say that the shooting left a 19-year-old Huntington man with a gunshot wound to the head.
As of Monday, Rashawn Jerrell Harless was listed in critical condition at Cabell Huntington Hospital.
According to university police officials, Marshall and Huntington police gave chase through town Sunday after Harless was allegedly spotted with a gun.
Huntington Police Chief Skip Holbrook says that after Harless ducked behind a trash receptacle, he began firing shots and the Marshall officers returned fire.
Huntington SWAT officers soon arrived and used ballistic shields to approach Harless, who was found wounded.
Two Marshall officers have been placed on administrative leave until the shooting investigation is complete.
It wasn’t immediately clear whether Harless is a Marshall student
