A girl’s softball game in Maury County turned violent when a coach took on an umpire and began swinging.
Columbia Police were called to a youth softball game when things got out of hand and talking turned to fighting.
Witnesses said Jonathan Allen Rose was arguing with umpire David Ray Kelley over a play during the 10-year-olds’ game.
Kelley allegedly called Rose a liar several times, and that’s when Rose punched the umpire – knocking him unconscious.
Police and medical personnel responded to the scene and Rose was taken into custody and has been arrested and charged with assault.
There was no word on the Kelley’s injuries.
