Police say that a Dover, New Hampshire teen suspected of using a stolen credit card at a store left a pretty good clue to his identity. Before using the credit card, the teen had applied for a job and filled out a job application at the same store.
Fandi Pradipta, 18, pleaded guilty Tuesday to using a stolen card at a store in the Fox Run Mall in Newington.
Police said Pradipta made the investigation easier because he had been at the home of the card owner the day before it was reported stolen. He then used the card and he filled out a complete job application — name, address, telephone number.
It’s one of the easiest cases that I’ve solved an investigator said.
Pradipta was fined and given a suspended sentence .

Police begin testing for steroids http://www.privateofficer.com
The Dallas Police Department plans to start testing officers for illegal anabolic steroids use on July 1.
Police officials said they had been researching incorporating testing for steroids as part of their random drug testing program for at least a year, said Acting Assistant Chief Floyd Simpson.
“It maintains the integrity of what we do and promotes community confidence,” Chief Simpson said. “Nobody knows when they are going to be called for a test.”
Chief Simpson said that other major cities, including Phoenix, Baltimore, Houston and Austin, have started testing for steroids use.
The department has been doing random drug testing for about 15 years. The last person to get fired after testing positive for marijuana was about five years ago, Chief Simpson said.
News of Dallas’ decision comes on the heels of the death of convicted steroids dealer David Jacobs, who authorities say fatally shot himself last week.
Mr. Jacobs had said that he sold steroids to bodybuilders, NFL players and the police.

Vandals at Knocksink Wood recently cut down at least one tree for firewood, left scorch marks on other trees and destroyed precious flora and fauna while leaving a large mess of litter behind them.
Due to the damage caused by vandals an outside security company has been employed at weekends to secure the natural woodland from such vandalism occurring again.
According to staff at the Education Centre at Knocksink Wood a group of men in six vans drove up to the main entrance to the wood and cut the barrier lock and chain.
Once the staff realised damage had been done they contacted local Gardaí who investigated the area.
However none of the men who are said to be from Dublin were arrested for the damage and litter as Gardaí were not able to confirm the damage was done by the group of men.
There is growing concern by staff with the increase in vandalism at the woodland and the area being left unsightly with rubbish.
The employment of security during the weekends when these incidents are more likely to occur has been very welcomed by staff.
Hidden within the river valley of the Glencullen River, near Enniskerry, Knocksink Wood National Nature Reserve is set on 73 hectares in area and less than a half kilometre wide at its narrowest points.
Within the area of outstanding beauty lies acid oak woodlands, calcareous birch and hazel woods and freshwater pools.

Security Officer Rescues Window Washers
A security guard at one of Montreal’s tallest downtown office towers is being praised for his actions to help a team of window washers stranded 30 storeys above ground in Tuesday’s wind storm.
The window washers were working on the upper third of the Place Montreal Trust building when the storm swept across the island, bringing with it gale-force winds, heavy rain, hail, thunder and lightning.
Their scaffolding started to swing from side to side as the storm intensified, with the platform peeling off the side of the building at one point.
It wasn’t clear at first how dangerous their situation was, but office workers watching the scene from inside started to panic for the men, said security supervisor Sébastien Molaire.
“Some people came and [said] ‘They’re gonna die; they’re gonna fall, and we really need someone to go there’,” he told CBC News. “So I went to the 30th floor. I see two men [on the platform], the guys were just grabbing everything to try to keep themselves alive.”
Someone found a solid glass paperweight in the office, which Molaire said he used to smash the window. The workers were then pulled into the building through the broken glass.
It’s not clear whether they were injured. The company that manages the building refuses to comment on the situation, and Molaire said he hasn’t seen them since the storm.
He said he feels “proud” about the way he acted.
“I was saving lives, and that’s it,” Molaire said.

Police crack shoplifting ring
Police have seized at least $50,000 worth of stolen shop items after catching what appeared to be a routine shoplifter at the Harvey Norman store in Ruthven Street on Wednesday afternoon.
Police said yesterday that as many as 1500 items, most still with their price tags attached, were removed from a Highfields home belonging to a “super sleuth” 61-year-old Toowoomba department store loss prevention officer, who holds an impressive record of catching would-be thieves.
Goods varying from expensive computer equipment, software, laptops, memory cards and USB drivers to children’s clothing, toys, books, DVDs, bedding and make-up items were all seized by police in the raid that lasted for several hours on Wednesday night.
Police said the woman fled the electrical store when she was chased by Harvey Norman staff who had witnessed the theft of two computer hard drives.
A subsequent search of the woman’s handbag, and then car, raised police concerns but they could never have imagined what would be uncovered when a search warrant was executed on her home.
Toowoomba Police Criminal Investigation Branch Detective Senior Constable Mark Neville said the woman was caught trying to steal items from the store about 4pm.
The Chronicle can reveal the woman, who for legal reasons cannot be identified at this stage, was caught on security cameras committing the offence.
She fled the scene when stopped by a security officer employed at the major home retail store.
Sources said the 61-year-old made several attempts to evade Harvey Norman staff, who unsuccessfully chased the woman, but she was later captured by police.
Snr Const Neville said the woman was arrested but has only been charged with one count of stealing in relation to the theft at Harvey Norman.
He said she had not been charged in relation to the items seized from her home in the police raid.
“You could say this situation is rather unusual,” Snr Const Neville said. “We rarely find this amount of items as a result of shoplifting.”
The case is Toowoomba’s third major theft investigation for the year with two women arrested in the past 12 months on charges worth a total of $540,000.
Kearneys Spring woman Julie Woodman, 52, was charged with 105 counts of stealing in July last year after $500,000 was discovered in her Gunn Street home.
Catherine Ellen Boulter was charged with 46 offences in June, 2007, including stealing a horse, a horse float and two calves and $50,000 from three banks.

Police officer arrested for shoplifting while on duty
A uniformed eThekwini metro police woman was arrested after trying to steal nearly R800 worth of clothing from a Hillcrest shop on Wednesday.Constable Thembelihle Mazibuko was caught by staff at the Jagged Rock Surf and Extreme Wear shop in the Hillcrest Corner centre.Camera footage shows the officer, who was on duty, sauntering into the store with a large handbag and taking several items of clothing into the fitting rooms. She went into the fitting rooms twice and on both occasions emerged with one item less than she had entered with, having slipped the extra garments into her handbag. When she tried to leave the shop she was apprehended by staff and supervised by security guards while the police were called.Jagged Rock owner Grant Fenton said the incident was “depressing”.”It is horrific and depressing that she was so brazen, trying to steal clothes while in uniform. You look up to police as role models, and then you get this,” he said.Police spokesperson S’bu Sithole said Mazibuko had been arrested at the store by another metro police officer and had been taken to the Hillcrest police station.”The constable came to the police station, where she signed an admission of guilt and paid the spot fine of R500.”A docket was made and has been taken to the magistrate’s court for processing,” Sithole said.Metro police Superintendent Thozamile Tyala said Mazibuko would face disciplinary action.”The behaviour of the constable is unacceptable. The matter will be investigated and all the relevant information and evidence will be passed on to senior management.”Drastic measures will be taken against the constable. In terms of ethics, it is really bad because police officers are supposed to be role models, and this act will not be condoned,” he said.Municipal manager Mike Sutcliffe said criminality among the metro police would not be tolerated”The full force of the law must be brought against the constable. We expect the police to take appropriate action,” he said.

Three Dillard employees arrested in theft http://www.privateofficer.com
Three Dillard’s employees have been apprehend and were arrested Tuesday after police responded to Dillard’s where loss prevention agents had three of the store’s employees in custody for theft.
Police say that the trio conspired to steal more than $1,000 worth of merchandise from the store.
Store security showed officers surveillance video which revealed that on May 20, Todd Albert Lukacs,24, of 2731 Citrus Lake Drive, the men’s department manager, and Donald E.Brown,25, of 1320 Henley St., the shoe department manager, brought large amounts of merchandise to a back room in suitcases and trash bags, Naples police reported.
Then investigators say that Lukacs and Brown then moved their vehicles to the second floor parking deck of the Coastland Center Mall, where they loaded the items into their trunks. A security officer witnessed them placing the items in their trunks, reports said.
Lukacs and Brown sealed their bags with security tape, which indicated the items were paid for. Police said that Carol A.Uhrin,61, of 3021 Lunar St. East Naples, a customer service representative, then provided them with the security tape in exchange for $400 cookware.
The total value of the items stolen, which included clothing, cookware, dishes and luggage, was about $1,500, reports said.
All three were charged with one count of felony theft.

Family kidnapped, assaulted www.privateofficer.com
Family kidnapped, assaulted http://www.privateofficer.com
The terrifying ordeal lasted nearly four hours for Suzanne Ledet, her husband Sterling, and their three children.
After pistol-whipping Suzanne when she tried to grab a gun, they forced her to call her husband home saying she was sick. The children were left tied up on the third floor.
DeKalb police officers canvassed the small neighborhood of upscale homes looking for information and possible witnesses to Wednesday’s brazen kidnapping of a family in their own home.
“I think this was a targeted family and she was a very brave lady,” said neighbor and friend, Lou Jewell.
A neighbor reporters that Ledet spotted the same men a day earlier.
“Ms. Ledet saw them walking on Lavista. She was so disturbed that day, she went in her house and locked the house and that’s not like her. She’s always out with her children,” said neighbor Joan Brainard.
Over ten years ago, Ledet founded Sterling Ledet and Associates, a national chain of software training centers.
The gunmen demanded Sterling Ledet withdraw $100,000 in ransom or they would kill his wife and children, said authorities. But before they left for an ATM, Suzanne Ledet escaped from the house still bound to her chair and flagged down a motorist.
“He pistol-whipped her in the head, she had blood running. And here she is hobbling to the street in a chair to save her children. She is a very courageous woman,” said an unidentified neighbor.
The Ledet’s home was also ransacked by the gunmen. There’s no word yet on what was taken.
Neighbors say Suzanne Ledet suffered a broken nose and cheekbone, and an injured eye socket. She is still in the hospital.
Police are trying to track down more information on a white SUV that was in the area of the home Wednesday and may have been the getaway vehicle.

Security officer shoots, kills man during disturbance http://www.privateofficer.com
Metro police responded to the Sierra Point Apartments located on Sierra Vista Avenue and Cambridge Thursday night, following a report that an individual had been shot.
When police arrived, they found the deceased 34-year-old Roberto Simmon lying on the ground outside of his apartment.
Police say that a security officer responded to a complaint of loud music at Simmon’s apartment. According to witnesses, when the security officer knocked on the door, Simmon attacked the officer and tried to wrestle his gun away from him.
Neighbors say it was an uneven match between the two men, and that Simmon was physically much larger than the security guard.
As a result of the struggle, the security officer fired one shot at the man and killed him.
Neighbors say Simmon got along with most people at the Sierra Point apartments where he lived. They say he often hosted community barbecues in the courtyard in front of his home.
Police say charges have yet to be filed and this is an ongoing investigation.
This incident is Las Vegas’ 57th homicide to date. This number is slightly lower than last year at this time.

12 Employees arrested in gas thefts www.privateofficer.com
12 Employees arrested in gas thefts http://www.privateofficer.com
With the price of gasoline rising relentlessly, 12 government employees and one civilian helped themselves to free gas at the taxpayers’ expense, the state charged Wednesday.
All but three of those indicted are from South Jersey. All were indicted on charges they stole gas from the government to fuel their personal cars.
Among those indicted were seven Camden residents, including Patrick Freeman, the 66-year-old head of the city’s recreation bureau, and Charles Rice, an 88-year-old school board employee who worked as a gas attendant at the city’s pumps.
“We charge that these government workers literally took a free ride at the expense of state and local taxpayers,” Attorney General Anne Milgram said in announcing the indictments.
The investigation began with tips from people who observed abuses at the government fueling station, according to Peter Aseltine, a spokesman for the Division of Criminal Justice.
Aseltine declined to elaborate on what surveillance techniques led to the specific charges of theft, which ranged from a single occasion at which 12 gallons were allegedly taken, to a series of illicit fill-ups valued at more than $1,000.
While the indictments focused on people in South Jersey, the problem is not limited to this area, Aseltine suggested.
Also indicted Wednesday was a private citizen, Nicole Millner, 32, a Camden resident who was allegedly drawn into the scheme by her cousin, Montrice Wright, an employee of the state Department of Children and Families.
Six of the 12 government workers indicted are employees of the Department of Children and Families, an agency with more than 2,500 vehicles.
Four are employed by the Camden school board, and two by the city of Camden’s recreation bureau.
State Comptroller Matthew Boxer announced that his department will be auditing all vehicle and gasoline usage in the Department of Children and Families.
The Department of Children and Families issues magnetic swipe cards that activate the pump at state fueling stations. Department of Children and Families spokeswoman Kate Bernyk said previous policies there have been tightened.
While fuel cards are supposed to be signed out with a specific state vehicle and remain with that vehicle, the attorney general said, the defendants in this case kept and shared the cards to fuel their personal vehicles.
A spokesman for the Camden school board, Bart Leff, said that the board uses the city’s gasoline pumps at the public works building on Newton Avenue as part of a shared services agreement with the city.
He said that board employees are issued “cards and keys” to gain access to the pumps.
No action has been taken against any of the school employees indicted, Leff said, pending the next meeting of the board of education, now scheduled for next week.
Patrick Keating, the director of public works, directed all questions to city Business Administrator Christine Tucker Jones, who directed all questions to the Rev. Tony Evans, head of the city’s Department of Human Services, who did not respond to calls.
State Department of Children and Families employees indicted Wednesday were:
Tyrone B. Williams, 48, of Willingboro, an administrative analyst charged with stealing more than $750 worth of gas at the Mount Laurel and Edgewater Park state fueling stations between April 2007 and May 2008.
Jesse Rodriguez, 44, of Audubon, a vehicle coordinator charged with stealing 12 gallons from the West Deptford fueling station July 28, 2007.
Sharon Smalls, 37, of Camden, a transportation aide who allegedly not only stole gasoline herself, but brought two other people into the scheme.
Montrice Wright, 29, of Camden, who was “taught” by Smalls how to steal gas, according to the indictment.
Other department workers named in the indictment were Alexis Quezada, 29, of Clifton; and Benny Sherman, 35, of Paterson.
Also indicted were two employees of the city of Camden’s bureau of recreation:
Freeman, the superintendent of the bureau, charged with stealing 37 gallons of gas by fueling either his own or his son’s car at city pumps on four occasions in September and October 2007.
Terrance Mayo, 25, of Lindenwold, charged with fueling a friend’s SUV at city pumps on two occasions, stealing about 10 gallons each time.
Camden school district employees named indicted are:
Rice, the 88-year-old gas attendant, charged with fueling personal vehicles at the city pumps on six occasions between August and October 2007.
William Elliot, 54, of Camden, a roofer who also serves as a gas attendant, charged with stealing a total of 29 gallons over three occasions in September 2007.
Sandra Ingram, a clerk for the school board who was allegedly “recruited” by Smalls to participate in the gasoline theft.
Urshell Pearson, 46, of Philadelphia, a plumber for Camden’s Board of Education.
The charges carry maximum sentences of three to 10 years.

Teens arrested for copper theft, needed money for insurance http://www.privateofficer.com
Teens in search of cash are accused of doing serious damage to a half dozen RV owners.
The teens were arrested for stealing cords for the copper wires inside. And the teens tell cops they did it to pay for gas and car insurance.
Port St. Lucie Police say Michael Veronia an 18 year-old from Fort Pierce and 19-year-old Anthony Tenhoeve were caught in the act slicing power cords, with more cords found by police in their hatchback.
The teens told police they did it for the valuable copper wiring found inside.
Police know of 5 victims with sliced power cords in the southeastern part of the city, but admit there could be more.
The two admitted to police when interviewed, between 1 a.m. and 2:15 a.m. Tuesday, they cut the power cords from RV’s parked in homeowner’s driveways. Police say the teens hit RV’s on Schleicher Lane, Croquet Street, Seahouse Drive and Polynesian Avenue in Port St. Lucie.
One victim, Joseph Floria on Southeast Croquet Street, said the damage to his RV was done in seconds, but it will take at least $300 to replace the cord.
“I think they realize the difference between right and wrong here, but they are making bad choices right now,” said Joseph Floria who had his RV vandalized, “I wouldn’t only give them a slap on the wrist, I would garnish their future income so they realize there’s a price to the community and the individual when they do this.”
As for paying the RV owners back, both of the teens are unemployed and both face felony grand theft charges.
Police say they are acting quick on these types of damaging thefts in light of a weak economy and soaring gas prices. Police Chief John Skinner said he only expects to see more of this type of criminal activity throughout the summer.

Willie Mathis was shot outside the Roman Pub, 1774 Northwest 183rd St., just before 1 a.m. police officers said.
According to reports, Mathis had walked out of the pub, where the party was being held, and was confronted by the gunman, police said.
It is not clear if the two got into a confrontation about something or if it was a robbery attempt.
Cassandra Harrell was throwing the party for her daughter, who had just graduated high school.
“It was a beautiful party. No problems. We paid extra for security. Five security officers and one undercover police officer,” Harrell said.
Security officers were patrolling the area and the undercover police officer was outside the pub at the time of the shooting.
The officer heard the gunshots, ran to the area but was not able to respond before the gunman sped away in a car.
Miami Gardens police are continuing their investigation, talking to those who attended and searching for an security camera video that may be available from other near by businesses.
It was not clear who the security officers were employed by or if any of them were outside during the shooting.

Student arrested in security officer assault www.privateofficer.com
Student arrested in security officer assault http://www.privateofficer.com
According to an Ithaca Police Department statement, a 17-year-old male Ithaca resident was arrested at the request of school personnel. The statement said the student was involved in a physical altercation with a school security guard and that he picked up a chair and menaced others with it.
Judith Pastel, superintendent of the Ithaca City School District, said the student knocked one security guard to the ground and then swung at another before being restrained by officers.
“He just lost control,” she said.
The student was arrested when the security guards chose to press charges, she said.
The arrest came after Tompkins County sheriff’s deputies and Ithaca police officers responded to an incident at Ithaca High School Thursday involving thrown food. Pastel said there wasn’t a fight.
The Ithaca Fire Department responded to the school minutes later after a fire alarm on Cayuga Street nearby was maliciously activated, said Tom Parsons, the deputy fire chief.
About seven officers and deputies in several cars went to the scene.
Pastel said eggs were thrown outside the building on the school’s quad and water balloons were also involved. She said she saw 10 eggs on the sidewalk.
Parsons said his firefighters were also called to the high school three or four times Wednesday due to false alarms pulled by students as pranks in their last weeks of classes. He said firefighters also witnessed a food fight on Wednesday.
“There’s been a lot of bad behavior, and kids have been kids pulling the fire alarms,” Parsons said. “They’ve been doing it for the past few days.”
The vast majority of the school’s 1,500 students behaved responsibly, Pastel said.
After the incident, which lasted about 20 minutes, Pastel and police officers were seen interviewing several students outside the high school. A student was documenting the scene outside the school on his camera phone.
Parsons said because of all the false alarms, the high school is on a fire watch, which means school officials will investigate fire alarms to determine their veracity before calling in the fire department. He said the department was forced to respond Thursday because the alarm that was pulled was outside the school.

Police said a man and women stole almost $2,000 in merchandise from a Kohl’s store in Canton on May 31, shortly after 4 p.m.
Kevin Wilkinson of the Canton Police Department said the department received a cell phone call from the store, saying a security officer wasbeing assulted.
The store’s surveillance video shows a man in red shorts and a gray shirt placing his shopping cart behind a rack near the exit.
It also shows a woman in a black shirt circling a sales rack. Moments later they wheel merchandise out the front door.
Police said the man dropped cards that were in his pocket as he left the store. A security officer leaned over to pick them up and that’s when she was attacked, police said.
The man stomped on her hand, grabbed her by her arm, pushed her and wouldn’t let go of her until she yelled and asked someone to call police, police said.
Although police arrived quickly, the man and woman had fled. Police said they may have been in a tan car.
Anyone with information on this is asked to call police.

Two Charlotte NC police officers arrested http://www.privateofficer.com
Federal agents with the FBI have been working very closely for several months with the Charlotte- Mecklenburg police investigating two of their own.
Although many details have not yet been released and documents have been sealed, authorities say that Gerald Holas and Adam Ross were arrested on Thursday afternoon. Both men resigned their positions after their arrests.
Both are charged with conspiracy to distribute cocaine base, better known as crack cocaine.
According to police, another man, David Lockhart, who faces the same charge and a second charge of possessing crack cocaine was the supplier.
CMPD officers that I spoke with are sad and disappointed that these two officers chose to cross the lines but reserved saying much else until the officers go to trial.
All three men are being held in federal custody at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Jail. Currently they are being held without bond and face another court date on June 16.
If convicted, the men face a minimum sentence of 10 years and a maximum of life in prison.
