PALESTINE TX June 22 2008 A 48-year-old Palestine woman remains in jail after she was arrested Friday and charged with theft after allegedly shoplifting $116 worth of lingerie and perfume from Burke’s Outlet.
According to Palestine Police Sgt. Larry Boyer, officer Daniel Dancer responded to a shoplifting call at the store, 1910 S. Loop 256, and met with the store’s loss prevention employee, who said that she had seen on surveillance camera a female take store merchandise and hide it underneath her clothing.
“After selecting and concealing several items, the subject walked past the working and manned cash register and exited the store, failing to pay for the items,” Boyer said.
“The loss prevention employee exited the store and identified herself as agent for Burke’s Outlet.
The suspect was escorted back into the loss prevention office and recovered clothing items that the suspect removed from under her dress and a gray quilted cloth purse.”
Police arrested Nancy Jamesetta Walton, 48, of Palestine, and charged her with Theft under $1,500 with two or more previous convictions, which ranks as a state jail felony.
Walton was transported to the Anderson County Jail for booking, where she remained as of 5:30 p.m. Tuesday with $20,000 bond set by Judge James Westley.
