An altercation outside a Kansas City convenience store erupted in gunfire early Saturday after two employees were struck by a car.
Police responding to 911 calls said two women in the parking lot of the 7-Eleven store at Independence Avenue and Benton Boulevard were arguing with some men in a car about 1:30 a.m. When a store employee and a security officer went out to see what was going on, the men sped off, but police said that they returned shortly and struck the employee and security guard with the car, police said.
The security officer and at least one other person who may have been a customer at the store, shot at the car as the car sped off.
Authorities said that one of the people that may have been in the car later showed up at a local hospital with gunshot wounds and is in critical condition, police said, but they had not been able to confirm whether he was involved in the incident.
The security officer and other store employee were not seriously injured.
Police are continuing their investigation and said that no suspects were in custody Saturday afternoon and did not know if charges would be filed against the security officer or other person who had fired shots. Right now it looks like self defense an officer said.
