Food delivery employee carjacked and murdered by couple www.privateofficer.com

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. July 7 2008 Police in Fredericksburg, Virginia, are working to confirm the identity of a body found near the car of an abducted delivery man.
A police spokeswoman says police found the body in a remote area of Sussex County not far from 24-year-old Yong Hui Zhang’s car.
Police say Zhang has been missing since he was apparently ambushed behind an apartment building Thursday night while delivering food. His parents called police when he didn’t return to their China Express restaurant by closing time.
Police say it could take take up to two days to confirm the identity because of trauma to the body.
Saturday, police arrested 34-year-old Jermaine Montgomery and his 36-year-old girlfriend Marcey White at a Wal-Mart in Franklin, Virginia, where they allegedly used Zhang’s credit card. They’re cacing charges of abduction, carjacking and credit-card theft.
They are both being held without bond.

Propane tanks being used to transport Meth www.privateofficer.com

Propane tanks being used to transport Meth www.privateofficer.com

Atlanta GA July 7 2008
By: Rick McCann
Ntl. Assoc. Private officers
http://www.privateofficer.com/ – Our investigators have recently learned that the makers of methamphetamine are using propane tanks to transport their toxic ingredients for producing the drugs.
This fact recently came to light when one of these drug makers exchanged his empty propane tank for a full one at a local convenience store.

This poses a risk to the public because often times the meth makers return the tanks to stores, who then resell them.
Those tanks are contaminated with a dangerous residue of anhydrous ammonia after it was used to make the methamphetamine.

ACE hardware, home centers, department stores, convenience stores and dozens of other places are available for residents to exchange their empty propane cylinder for a full one.
The tanks are then sent to a company such as Blue Rhino to be refilled.
“They’re supposed to go through them and check them for leaks and whether the valves are operating properly,” said Ron Gunter of ACE hardware.
The anhydrous ammonia can corrode the valve and fittings on the propane cylinder, which can force it to leak.
Once this happens, it can release a corrosive ammonia vapor which could burn a person’s skin, harm lungs or cause death.
The Tennessee Meth Task Force said to never reuse a discarded propane tank.
Experts said to look for any blue-green corrosion on the brass valve, look to see if any connection threads have been tampered with and give a sniff test. Try to notice the smell of ammonia.
If there is any indication of ammonia, consumers should not open the valve to see what’s inside.
This practice has now come to light with other state law enforcement agancies as well as the methamphetamine makers continue to look for covert ways to transport their illegal drugs.
The state Meth Task Force said it has been successful in cutting down the number of methamphetamine labs thanks to that law restricting how cold pills are sold.
However they said methamphetamine production still is a problem in many southeastern states and in rural communities.

Security officers capture murder suspect www.privateofficer.com

PITTSBURGH PA July 7 2008

Ntl. Assoc. Private Officers
http://www.privateofficer.com/ Security officers are being credited with their quick actions as they captured a man who fled from inside a minivan where two men were fatally shot Saturday evening.
Pittsburgh police responded to the city’s Lincoln-Lemington section at about 6 p.m. near the area of Apple and Grotto streets.According to police, both men were shot while traveling inside of the minivan.
Police later identified the victims as Christopher Brandyburg, 32, found in the front seat, and William Walker, 34, found in the rear passenger seat.
Both men are from Beaver Falls.
Detectives said bystanders and Victory Security officers who were patrolling a property on Apple Street heard shots fired from the area of the minivan.
Officials said the security officers immediately responded to the area and followed the minivan, which eventually returned to Apple Street where the driver and the other passenger abandoned it near Grotto Street.
Security guards detained the passenger, identified as Allan Moorefield, 42, but the driver fled to a wooded area, eluding capture.
Police K-9 crews responded to the scene, but were unable to find the driver.According to police reports, Moorefield said that a man in a passing car opened fire and that no one from inside the minivan fired gunshots.
Police reports indicated that Moorefield said the gunshots from the other car killed Brandyburg and Walker while the minivan’s door was open.Police are still looking for the second person involved but have charged Moorefield with criminal homicide, criminal conspiracy and a gun charge.Officers say that the security officers put themselves in danger but credit them with the apprehension of a murder suspect.
Police said officers found a gun and spent shell casings inside the minivan, and investigators said they believe the shots were fired from inside the van.
Authorities said the minivan was not reported stolen and is owned by someone in the Beaver Falls area.
If you have information regarding this investigation, contact Pittsburgh police by dialing 412-255-8477 .

Wild shoot-out at Fla nightclub injures several www.privateofficer.com

Wild shoot-out at Fla. nightclub injures several www.privateofficer.com

from jacksonville.com
Jacksonville FLA July 7 2008
Police shot two people in a wild gunfight outside Jacksonville’s Plush nightclub during Independence Day festivities early Saturday, police officials said.
Two off-duty Jacksonville police were tending to an injured woman shortly before 3 a.m. in the crowded parking lot of the club at Arlington Expressway and University Boulevard North when they saw a vehicle bearing down on them, Fraternal Order of Police President Nelson Cuba said. Shots were being fired from the vehicle, which was being chased by officers responding to a previous shooting in the club’s parking lot.
“It was pandemonium,” Cuba said.
Chief Rick Graham of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said the officers, who were working security at the club and in uniform, returned fire.
Officer Lemmuel Johnson hit the driver in the left forearm, causing the vehicle to veer off course and hit the front of the club. Graham said a passenger exited the vehicle brandishing a .45-caliber gun. Officer Jose Gonzalez shot once and hit the man in the torso.
Police charged Cariel Carl Britt, 21, with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill, and Caleif Isaiah Bush, 18, with aggravated assault against a law enforcement officer with a vehicle, according to the police report.
Both men were treated at the scene and taken to Shands Jacksonville in stable condition, Graham said.
The backseat passenger, Corey Deshawn Gibson, 19, also was arrested after officers found a .40-caliber handgun on the floor and determined he had concealed it. He was charged with carrying a concealed firearm.
The police report said both guns taken from the suspects matched shell casings recovered from a shooting in the club’s parking lot earlier that morning.
The suspects are from Jacksonville. Britt was arrested in 2007 on a misdemeanor drug charge and pleaded no contest. The others have no prior felony arrests.
Per department policy, Johnson and Gonzalez will be placed on paid administrative leave while the shootings are investigated.
Before Saturday, Jacksonville police had shot 11 people this year, killing seven. None of the shootings has been found to be unjustified.

An area man faces a federal court detention hearing Monday after being charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Independence police arrested Robert M. Huss, 53, on Tuesday for allegedly shoplifting a package of batteries after a hardware store employee saw him leave the store without paying.
While being held at the store, Huss began squirming in a chair and according to a witness, a Colt .38-caliber revolver dropped to the floor, according to federal court records.
Officers took control of the handgun and verified that Huss was a felon and not allowed to be in possession of a handgun.
Huss has prior convictions for possession of a controlled substance in Clay and Platte counties, according to court documents.

14,000 Illegal immigrants deported from 3 states www.privateofficer.com

14,000 illegal Immigrants Deported From 3 States www.privateofficer.com

COLUMBIA, S.C July 7 2008 Federal immigration officials said more than 14,000 illegal immigrants have been deported from Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina since October.
U.S. Immigration Customs and Enforcement spokeswoman Barbara Gonzalez told The Greenville News that the agency deports more people every year.
Federal agents find out about illegal immigrants in several different ways. Some jails screen all their prisoners and notify agents when they find someone in the country illegally. Others are caught in workplace raids or by fugitive teams.
Illegal immigrants who lose their appeals to stay usually are sent home on a plane. Gonzalez said that costs taxpayers up to $700 a flight.

Police officer sues store and security over shoplifting detention www.privateofficer.com

Police officer sues store and security staff over shoplifting detention www.privateofficer.co

ELGIN IL. July 7 2008
By: Bryan Hill
Ntl. Assoc. Private Officers
http://www.privateofficer.com/ Jesse Padron , an Elgin police officer is suing Carson Pirie Scott department store and its security staff over allegations he was improperly detained and falsely accused of shoplifting.
Padron filed the suit in Cook County Circuit Court, saying a July 6, 2006, shopping trip to Carson’s Streets of Woodfield location in Schaumburg turned into a nightmare after he was taken into the back room and subjected to an “intense, secreted interrogation.
” Padron claims that he was detained by loss prevention officers and subject to “question after question, accusation after accusation” related to the store security officer’s belief that he was stealing things.
The suit claims he didn’t shoplift and carried all items he was shopping for out in the open. Store security officers called the Elgin Police Department to report that one of their officers was being detained for alleged shoplifting, the suit claims.
The department initiated an internal investigation, and the suit says Padron lost pay and benefits until he was ultimately cleared.
Through this ordeal, he suffered the “public and community humiliation” of being labeled a “crooked cop,” the suit claims. He was never charged with shoplifting, the suit said.
He is asking for at least $50,000.

Father kills daughter over pre-arranged marriage www.privateofficer.com

from I-Net News Network
JONESBORO, Ga. July 7 2008( Metro-Atlanta) A 25-year-old Jonesboro woman is dead after police said she told her father she wanted out of an arranged marriage.
Police said they found Sandela Kanwal’s body inside a home in the 9600 block of Utah Drive in Jonesboro. They said Kanwal had been strangled to death by her father, Chaudhry Rashid, 56.

“Apparently, she had been married and has had no contact with her husband who lives in Chicago for the last three months,” said Tim Owens of the Clayton County Police Department.
Owens said the victim and her father argued over the marriage and the fact that it had been arranged. “At some point during the altercation, he ended up killing his daughter,” said Owens.

Police said they have encountered numerous challenges with the case, particularly because of a language barrier.
Authorities are not saying how the victim was killed.
Police said the family is from Pakistan. Neighbors were shocked to hear about the tragedy. “My heart goes out. They seemed to be decent, lovely people,” said neighbor Veronda Luckett.
Rashid remains in jail charged with murder.

High school students charged with crime spree www.privateofficer.com

High school students charged with crime spree www.privateofficer.com

FARMINGTON UTAH July 7 2008

www.privateofficer.com Several high school football players facing dozens of charges in connection with a crime spree that stretched from Syracuse to Layton are making their first appearances here in court.
Five boys, ages 16 and 17, are being ordered to home confinement while the cases work their way through 2nd District Juvenile Court, prosecutors said Thursday. Collectively, the teens face 54 charges in Davis County ranging from shoplifting and theft to business and vehicle burglaries. One boy faces 22 charges alone.
In Weber County, some of the teens face burglary, theft, reckless driving and even littering charges — stemming from their arrest after a chase that ended when police said their getaway car crashed into an Ogden home.
“They were pretty well organized,” Rick Westmoreland, deputy Davis County attorney, told the Deseret News after the teens’ court appearance on Thursday.
In the business burglaries, prosecutors said money, electronics and other items were taken. Some items were kept and others tossed, Westmoreland said. Businesses ranged from an Ogden golf course to an auto shop in Syracuse and a nutrition store in Clinton.
“A couple of times they went into the GNC and took supplements, protein things to help you get bigger when you’re lifting weights,” he said. “They would get it and sell it.”

The teens are varsity football players at Syracuse High School. None of them have any prior criminal records, leaving prosecutors perplexed as to why an otherwise upstanding group of teens would be involved in any criminal activity. Westmoreland said the teens have told investigators they would get a “rush” from the crimes.
“Committing thefts and burglaries is just as addicting as drugs,” he said. “You get that rush from it and have success, why stop?”

3 Arrested in Satanic rape and kidnapping case www.privateofficer.com

3 Arrested in rape, kidnapping and satanic worship www.privateofficer.com

Durham NC July 7 2008

Prosecutors have charged three people, including two ranking members of the Durham County Democratic Party, as part of an investigation into allegations of rape and kidnapping that prosecutors said involved satanic worship.
The latest person charged is Diana Palmer, 44, the first vice chairwoman of the county Democratic Party. She turned herself in to police Wednesday afternoon and was charged with one count of accessory after the fact of assault with deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.
Palmer’s arrest came five days after police arrested Joy Johnson, 30, the county party’s third vice chairwoman, and her husband, Joseph Scott Craig, 25.
Authorities have said little about the case outside of the information included in arrest warrants, which allege that Craig beat a man and a woman, raped the woman and that Johnson watched as he did so. Durham County Assistant District Attorney Mark McCullough said earlier this week that charges stemmed from some sort of satanic ritual.
Attorney Bill Thomas said Palmer denies any association with satanic worship or any knowledge of a crime. He said the allegation against her is that Johnson or Craig asked her to take some items away from their house.
“The Durham Police Department has knowledge that my client was not present and did not have knowledge of crimes for which others have been arrested, and I hope the investigator will share this with the public,” Thomas said.
Craig faces three counts of second-degree kidnapping, one count of second-degree rape, one count of second degree forcible sex offense and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury. Johnson faces several counts of felony aiding and abetting.
Court documents filed this week said the incidents occurred in December 2007 and in January and May. The warrants accuse Johnson of “instigating and encouraging” her husband as he handcuffed a man and forced him “into a dog cage, leaving him there for hours, terrorizing him.”
Other charges against Johnson stem from accusations made by a woman who listed the couple’s home as her address. The man listed in the warrants as having been caged also lived at the house.
Craig and Johnson are being held in the Durham County Jail. The Durham County Public Defender’s office was still assigning attorneys to their case.
Bond was being set for Palmer late Wednesday. The three were partners in a company called Indigo Dawn. Its Web site says the company offers services including “intuitive guidance, past-life regression, spirit guide communication and healing and cleansing.”

Police on Sunday arrested a guard who worked at the Marion Regional Juvenile Detention Center on felony charges of child abuse.
According to an Ocala Police Department probable cause affidavit, Raymond Soto Jr., 30, asked a juvenile detainee to strike another juvenile Friday at the center, saying he was disrespectful to staff.
Detainees told police that Soto told them to crowd around the victim so security cameras could not see what was happening and told one of them to hit the boy in the stomach, according to the affidavit.
Another detention center employee told police about the possible abuse and showed them security footage taken at 12:45 p.m. Friday.
A judge set Soto’s bail at $5,000.
