http://www.privateofficer.com/ A security officer who was on duty at an area business was robbed and assaulted as he stood in a parking lot talking to his brother according to police.
The man was struck in the face and bled profusely early Wednesday after he told robbers he had no money.
Police said that the 59-year-old security guard was talking to his brother in the parking lot at 14520 Village Drive at 12:25 a.m. when three men approached them.
One of the men pointed a chrome revolver at the security officer and demanded his money. When the guard said he didn’t have any, a second robber demanded money from the guard’s brother, police said.
The guard’s brother, a 57-year-old Moreno Valley resident, also said he had no money. The second robber then struck the man in the face with a hard dark object, causing him to bleed profusely, police said. Medical personnel believe that he may have suffered a broken nose.
Paramedics took care of the victim and transported him to the Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton while officers searched the area for the suspects but did not locate them.

Family returns from vacation to find house empty www.privateofficer.com

Family returns from vacation to find house empty www.privateofficer.com

JONESBORO, Ga July 19 2008 — A Jonesboro family said they are distraught after neighbors raided their belongings when the home they were renting was foreclosed upon without them knowing.
The family returned from vacation and found everything they owned on the lawn.“I received a call from a neighbor when I was coming up the road saying the items of my house had been put out on the lawn,” said Bridget Harris.
“It was embarrassing. My things were here for six hours. I came home, and children were riding my kids’ bicycles. They even took food from the property.”Harris said she’s been left with only scraps after her neighbors sifted through and stole her belongings while she was on vacation with her family.
Harris and her roommate were renting a house on Marsh Glen Drive in Jonesboro when it was foreclosed upon without their knowledge.“I’m very distraught right now. I
work, I provide for my children and I’m a single parent. This is horrific. This is not due to my negligence; this is due to the courts or whatever is going on with my landlord,” said Harris.Harris said she paid her rent on time and she can prove it with the receipt she kept.
She’s been living in the home since January.
She is the mother of three boys ages 13, 12 and 9.
The man who owns the property, Brian Brown, said he will provide another home for Harris and replace the family’s belongings.

Youth minister charged with child molestation www.privateofficer.com

Youth minister charged with child molestation www.privateofficer.com

MARIETTA, Ga July 19 2008 — A youth minister and magician who claims he has performed at a long list of metro Atlanta schools was arrested Thursday and charged with child molestation.
Jeffrey Alan Wasley, 37, is accused of molesting a 7-year-old boy Monday in the men’s restroom of the Target store at 740 Ernest Barrett Parkway in Kennesaw.
The victim reported the incident to store security and identified Wasley.
Police arrested Wasley Thursday night at the home he shares with his wife and two children on Carrie Trace in Kennesaw. According to the police booking report Wasley works at Calvary Jesus Church. On the church’s Web site he is listed as director of children’s ministries.
Some neighbors said they do not believe the charges. “Based on what I know about the guy, yeah, he’s a great guy and family man. Police didn’t even know he was married, police didn’t know he has kids, so that tells me they didn’t do their homework as well as they should have to make the accusations that have been made,” said one neighbor.
Wasley works as a magician under the name Magic Jeff. On his Web site, magicjeff.com, he claims he has performed at Six Flags, Cub Scout troops, Home Depot and a long list of local schools.
“We want anyone who has seen Mr. Wasley at a Target store, whether it was on Ernest Barrett Parkway or any location, if he was doing anything that looked suspicious to please contact us,” said Cassie Reece with the Cobb County Police Department.
The Calvary Jesus Church did not have a comment. Wasley is being held in the Cobb County Jail on $30,000 bond.

Copper thieves do $500,000 damage to schools www.privateofficer.com

Posted by privateofficernews on July 19, 2008

Copper thieves do $500,000 damage to school www.privateofficer.com

Mobile ALA. July 19 2008
Copper thieves have already done about a half-million dollars’ worth of damage at Mobile County schools over the last couple of months, which could result in some schools opening in August without working air conditioners, according to school officials.
Five schools have been hit so far over the summer, some twice, according to Tommy Sheffield, facilities manager for the Mobile County Public School System. Sheffield said he’s concerned more schools may fall prey.
Wednesday night, thieves went on the roof at Faulkner Vocational Technical School in Prichard and stripped six of the rooftop air handling units for their copper and aluminum. Also Wednesday, thieves broke into the kitchen at Booker T. Washington Middle School in Mobile’s Toulminville community and stole copper out of the sink and dishwasher units. The school’s alarm went off and police were dispatched, but no one was caught, Sheffield said

Sheffield said thieves had already stolen 16 rooftop air handling units at Booker T. Washington and that they’ve also hit Prichard’s Robbins Elementary once and Vigor High School twice.
Thieves did at least $200,000 worth of damage at the old Blount High School in downtown Prichard, which is now being leased by the 100 Black Men of Mobile. Sheffield said they stripped all of the air conditioning units out of the classrooms and got most of the copper water and gas lines.
It is unclear whether the same people hit all the schools, he said.
Sheffield said schools besides those vandalized for copper may be affected because maintenance workers have had to spend time dealing with the thefts rather than making repairs at other schools.
He said it takes weeks for the school system to order and receive copper to replace what is stolen.
“We’re spending resources working on and securing buildings due to vandalism and theft. That’s hours and hours that should be spent on maintenance stuff, getting ready to open schools. And that means we’re going to have uncompleted work orders at the start of school,” Sheffield said. “It looks like we’re going to have a hot opening.”
Sheffield said stealing the copper from a school takes a lot of effort. For example, he said, thieves must have spent hours on the roof at Booker T. Washington, and they needed a ladder and tools to remove the units.

The affected schools are all within a couple of miles of each other.
Sheffield said it’s difficult for the school system – which has about 100 school facilities – to predict when and where the thefts will occur.

All school buildings have copper. He urged people to keep an eye out on schools in their neighborhoods and call police if they see anything suspicious.
Sgt. Michael Womack, who works with scrap yards and recycling centers to try and track down stolen metal, said schools and commercial operations are attractive to thieves because those facilities present a relatively low risk in exchange for a potentially substantial payday.
The facilities are left almost completely unattended on nights and weekends and are usually cooled with several massive air-conditioning units.

A medium-sized commercial air-conditioning unit has about 20 pounds of copper coiling inside, Womack said. At $2.50 per pound, a thief could walk away with $50 for just a few minutes work.
While it takes some audacity to climb a school’s roof to steal the copper, Womack said it wouldn’t take a troop of master thieves to pull it off.

A couple guys with some bolt cutters, hacksaws and screw drivers could strip an unattended building relatively easily, he said.
The Mobile Police Department has been working to stem the tide of metal thefts by attempting cut the thieves off from scrap yards and recycling centers. Part of Womack’s job, for example, is to make sure that those businesses abide by state laws requiring them to get photo identification from those that sell them scrap.
For the most part, Womack said, scrap yards and recycling centers have been in compliance.
And yet metal thefts persist. Why?
Metal, like diamonds, is usually untraceable once it leaves its point of origin. As Womack put it, “Copper coils taken from the inside of a school’s air-conditioner looks just the same as the copper from the inside of any thousands of other air-conditioners

The Oklahoma City police and FB responded to a report of a hold-up at the Municipal Employees Credit Union and found that a security officer had been injured during the robbery.
FBI agents say that a black man wearing a black hooded sweat shirt and bandanna over his face robbed the Credit Union about 11:30 a.m. on Thursday. He took possession of the security guard’s gun and hit him in the head before robbing the bank.
He fled the scene in a newer model red Ford Focus or Ford Escort according to witnesses.
Police say the man is in his early 20s, about 6 feet tall, between 190 and 210 pounds.
The security officer required medical attention but did not sustain life-threatening injuries.

EX FBI Agent Charged With Robbery Plot www.privateofficer.com

Posted by privateofficernews on July 19, 2008

Ex-FBI Agent Charged With Robbery Plot www.privateofficer.com

From ABC News
Los Angeles CA. July 19 2008
A former FBI special agent was ordered held without bail Thursday after being arrested for allegedly plotting the armed robbery of a drug money stash house. The order against Vo Duong Tran came after the judge ruled him a danger to the community, in part because of secretly taped conversations in which Tran alluded to previous murders-for-hire and armed robberies.
Yu Sung Park, who is suspected of being Tran’s accomplice, was also held without bail. Both are charged with interference with commerce by means of threat or violence and conspiring to distribute narcotics.
Tran was arrested in the Orange County city of Fountain Valley late Monday after a federal probe that included six months of conversations secretly taped by an FBI informant posing as someone who could help Tran locate and carry out armed robberies.
Authorities allege Tran flew from his home in New Orleans to the Los Angeles area to raid the drug stash house, where the informant told him they could net $300,000.

According to the affidavit, Tran told the informant to send payments to Park in New Orleans for bulletproof vests that would be worn during the robbery.
Tran and the informant also allegedly discussed how audible the gunshots would be during the robbery if they used silencers and discussed the need to do a “dry run” of the robbery before going forward, according to transcripts included in the affidavit.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert Keenan said Thursday that agents found two assault rifles, four handguns – including a .22-caliber handgun with a built-in silencer – plastic handcuffs and four bulletproof vests when they arrested Tran and Park.
According to the affidavit’s transcripts, Tran talked about his desire to kill former associates who owe him millions of dollars from an illegal bookmaking gig. At one point, Tran allegedly says: “I want blood. … I have to make sure it’s done right because all my hits, they are clean. Not even come back to me.”
Alex Kessel, Tran’s attorney, told U.S. Magistrate Judge Marc Goldman that FBI agents had no evidence of Tran actually committing the robbery or of committing murders-for-hire. He also suggested that the informant entrapped Tran by proposing robberies or asking for advice about how to commit the crime.

“The only witness they have is this informant who was previously told how to approach my client, how to tell him things,” Kessel said.
Goldman disagreed and said the taped conversations convinced him to remand Tran to custody.
“He’s either puffing … or it didn’t happen,” Goldman said of Tran’s taped statements about previous crimes. “But it did come out of your client’s mouth.”

Tran, whose toddler daughter blew him kisses from the court gallery, showed no emotion during the hearing. A preliminary hearing was set for July 29.
Tran, who is Vietnamese, was hired by the FBI in 1992, but was suspended in 2001 after admitting that he attempted to bribe a Vietnamese official while on a personal trip to Vietnam. He filed a civil lawsuit against the agency shortly afterward, which is pending, Kessel said.
While suspended, he was charged in Chicago with impersonating a peace officer but was acquitted of all charges.
He was fired by the FBI in 2003, but the next year was indicted by federal officials in Atlanta on charges that he fraudulently obtained firearms and silencers by stating that he needed the weapons for his job with the FBI.
The charges were dismissed after a judge found the evidence against him was inadmissible, Kessel said.

Police charge shoplifting teens with burglary www.privateofficer.com

Police charge shoplifting teens with burglary www.privateofficer.com

Meridian Idaho July 19 2008

Four Boise teenagers — three females and a male — are facing felony burglary charges after Meridian police say they they stole $45 worth of items Monday at Wal-Mart.
Marisela M. Camarillo, 18; Idalia B. Carreon, 19; and Josefina Escobedo, 19; and Harold T. Gallemore, 18, are all charged with burglary. They are being held in the Ada County Jail and are awaiting a court appearance Monday.
Meridian police officials said the group went into the Wal-Mart at 4051 E. Fairview Ave. just after 8 p.m. Monday and began stuffing items such as T-shirts, lip gloss, socks, earrings, and nail polish in a backpack worn by Gallemore before attempting to leave the store without paying for the items.
The four are charged with felony burglary because police say they entered the store with the intent to steal, Meridian Police Lt. Bob Stowe said.
The decision to charge the teens with felony burglary instead of the lesser charge of misdemeanor petit theft was the decision of the arresting officer, Stowe said.
Stowe said it can be hard to prove intent in many shoplifting cases, so those suspects are usually charged with a misdemeanors. He said the officer in this case felt he had evidence to support the felony charge.
Ada County prosecutors will make the ultimate decision on what the charges will be, Stowe said.
The charge of felony burglary is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

Police officer fired over demand for free coffee www.privateofficer.com

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.July 19 2008

http://www.privateofficer.com/ - According to a report from the Daytona Beach Police Department, an internal affairs investigation found that a Daytona Beach police officer demanded free coffee and tea from a Starbucks and threatened employees with slower emergency response times if they refused.
Investigators said that they had received a complaint from the business regarding the aggressiveness and bullying style of a local police officer and that they were able to substantiate the complaint.
Lt. Major Garvin, a 15-year veteran, was fired July 8 according to the Chief of Police. According to the Daytona Beach News-Journal, Chief Mike Chitwood says Garvin recently failed a polygraph test that he insisted on taking.
The coffeehouse’s employees claim that since June 2007, Garvin had visited the store as many as six times a night while on duty. Besides demanding free drinks, workers complained that Garvin also cut in front of paying customers.

Security guard arrested for buying alcohol for minors www.privateofficer.com

HARRAH OKLA July 19 2008 — A grocery store security guard is accused of buying alcohol for teenagers.
Terry Dean Glazier, 50, of Choctaw is charged in Oklahoma County District Court with providing low-point beer to a person younger than age 21. Court documents state that while working at Country Boy Market on July 9, Glazier bought two six-packs of Smirnoff drinks for a group of teens

A customer told an Oklahoma County sheriff’s deputy he saw a uniformed security guard buy the drinks and then pass them off to a group of teens. The information was given to Harrah police, who later viewed Glazier purchase the alcoholic drinks on the store’s video surveillance tapes, according to court documents.
A police officer said she questioned a teen who claimed she gave Glazier $15 to make the purchase.
If convicted on the misdemeanor charge, Glazier could face up to one year in the county jail and a $500 fine.

Soccer team subdues naked man on airplane www.privateofficer.com

Soccer team subdues naked man on airplane www.privateofficer.com

OKLAHOMA CITY OKL July 19 2008 – An American Airlines flight from Boston to Los Angeles was diverted to Oklahoma City on Friday after a passenger stripped nude and later tried to open an emergency exit door before being subdued by members of a professional soccer team and others, the FBI said.
Members of the New England Revolution of Major League Soccer were among those who grabbed the passenger near an exit door, FBI spokesman Gary Johnson said. Tie wraps were placed on the man, whose name was not immediately released. He was taken into custody in Oklahoma City and placed under psychiatric evaluation, Johnson said.
American Flight 725, a Boeing 757, arrived in Oklahoma City at 1:35 p.m. CDT and was back in the air an hour later, said American Airlines spokesman Tim Smith. It landed without further incident at Los Angeles International Airport at 3:13 p.m. PDT.
Craig Tornberg, the soccer team’s general manager, said he confronted the man as soon as he saw him emerge naked from one of the plane’s restrooms.
“I said he should get back into the bathroom and put on his clothes,” Tornberg said after the plane landed in Los Angeles. “He said something strange to me. He said, ‘I don’t hear you. I don’t see you.’ ”
Tornberg said the man complied and got dressed but a few minutes later “made a beeline for the emergency door.”
Tornberg said he, assistant coach Gwynne Williams and Michael Burns, the team’s vice president for player personnel, grabbed the man and forced him into a seat while a flight attendant tied him up.
“It was strange, but when he put his hands on the exit door – that brought it to another level,” Burns said. “Clearly, he wasn’t thinking straight.”
The pilot diverted the flight to Will Rogers World Airport where the man was removed.
“He was taken into custody by the Oklahoma City Police Department and taken to a crisis center for a mental evaluation,” Johnson said.
Shortly before the incident, Tornberg said he saw the man, described as clean-cut and in his early 20s, crying and “talking a lot of gibberish.”
The soccer team was on its way to Southern California for a game on Sunday against Chivas USA at California State University, Fullerton. Its members were among 151 passengers and seven crew members on the flight.
As passengers left the plane in Los Angeles, several indicated they had taken the incident in stride.
Gillian Callaghan, who was traveling with her 12-year-old son, said she never panicked because the flight crew seemed to keep things well under control. She said she felt sorry for the man.
“He was just having some troubles, confused, not a scary guy,” she said.

Milwaukee police officer commits suicide www.privateofficer.com

MILWAUKEE WI July 19 2008 – A 29-year-old off-duty police officer committed suicide early Friday despite the efforts of two fellow officers to stop him.
It happened at the off-duty officer’s home in the 3400 block of S. Griffin, near Humboldt Park.
The officer, who died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, had been with the department for five years and was assigned to District 3.
According to a statement from Milwaukee Police, an on-duty sergeant and another on-duty police officer went to the off-duty officer’s home after hearing that the officer might be suicidal.
The sergeant and the officer who accompanied him attempted to prevent the suicide of their fellow officer.
The off-duty officer placed a gun to his own head in an attempt at suicide. In a desperate to attempt to prevent that, the sergeant discharged his weapon striking the off-duty officer in the leg. As the off-duty officer fell to the ground, he again placed the gun to his own head and pulled the trigger. The off-duty officer was pronounced dead at the scene.
The sergeant involved in the incident is 35-years-old with 11 years of service on the department.
As is standard operating procedure, the sergeant was placed on administrative duty pending the completion of the investigation.
The incident is being treated as a death investigation by the Milwaukee Police Department and is being reviewed by the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office and the name of the officers have not been released yet.

Nightclub security guard arrested for shooting in club www.privateofficer.com

Nightclub security guard arrested for shooting in club www.privateofficer.com

Ocean Springs MS July 19 2008

A security guard at Shock Wave Entertainment club was arrested this week for firing a weapon outside the club.
Police Capt. Terry Harris said Earl Weathersby was arrested shortly before 4 a.m. Thursday and charged with discharging a firearm in the city limits.
Harris said Weathersby was arrested after police responded to report of a fight outside the club; they learned Weathersby had fired his weapon in an apparent attempt to break up the fight.
Harris said one security guard had escorted a patron out of the club, which resulted in a scuffle.
Harris said Weathersby told police he saw others starting to gather around when he went outside, and fired the shot to prevent anything further from happening.
But Harris said it’s illegal for anyone to simply fire a gun into the air unless it’s a matter of “immediate protection of life.”
“We don’t fire warning shots, because when you fire a shot up in the air, we don’t know where it’s going to end up,” he said. “The chance is there that you could hit an innocent bystander.”
A gun legally could be fired in the city limits, Harris said, if there is an imminent threat to the life of a police officer or the general public.
“Other than that, he needs to find another means,” to stop a fight, Harris said.
Thursday’s report of a fight at the club isn’t a first for the city.
In early June police responded to a shooting during what police described as a large bar brawl.
In that case police said when they got to the club, they were confronted with a “combatant group” of about 60 in the bar’s parking lot.
Jackson County sheriff’s deputies also went to the scene to assist Ocean Springs officers.
As the investigation folded, police said they learned one person had been shot in the brawl and was later treated and released from Ocean Springs Hospital. That investigation is continuing.
Attempts to reach Weathersby or others at Shock Wave Entertainment were unsuccessful Friday.
Anyone with information is asked to call Ocean Springs police at 875-2211.
