As Collierville resident Monica Maynard scanned her credit card bill, she didn’t remember purchasing any high-priced clothing from Dillard’s department store at The Avenue Carriage Crossing.
“I came home and opened my mail and noticed that my bill was awfully high and I saw two purchases (at Dillard’s) on June 13,” Maynard said
But by the time she realized someone had stolen her credit card number the criminal had racked up an $800 tab.
Collierville police checked the store’s surveillance footage and made an arrest the following day.
Former Dillard’s employee Jennie Lynn Brady is accused of stealing Maynard’s credit card number from the store’s client files and making two purchases totaling $792 on June 13.
Brady faces two counts of identity theft, two counts of forgery and theft of property.
She was arraigned Tuesday and her next court date will be Aug. 26.
“It’s frustrating,” Maynard said. “You wonder who has your information.”
Maynard notified police on June 24 that someone used her credit card.
The following day, officers questioned Brady who insisted she bought the items with her grandmother’s credit card.
According to the police affidavit, officers asked why she didn’t report back and Brady said, “OK, I did it.”
This was the second time Maynard has been the victim of identity theft.
If convicted on all charges, Brady faces up to seven years in jail, according to Collierville Lt. Philip Arnold.

“There are certain thresholds that this individual needs to meet in our behavioral detection program.
McCauley denied any profiling takes place during the screening and said the BDO’s are trained on cultural sensitivity as well.
“Nobody wants their rights infringed upon, but if you’re not doing anything wrong, what are you worried about?” said traveler James Vint.
But, not all travelers feel that way, saying the screening is too subjective.
“Some people get nervous about smaller things than others,” said traveler Anthony Platt. “So, I really don’t think nervousness is a good indicator.”
McCauley said the behavioral screening has been in place for a while, but most travelers have no idea it even exists.

Club Risque was a little more true to its name than the residents of this small northeast Georgia town could take.
The town of Lavonia decided after numerous attemts to close it down using the court system failed, that it would shell out nearly $1 million Tuesday to buy and shut down the strip club along Interstate 85.
After the purchase, the city quickly burned the interstate signs advertising the club, which was popular with truckers.
Club Risque was opened in 2001 by Alachua, Fla., businessman Jerry Sullivan. The city went to court several times to close the club but was never successful.
Lavonia has since passed an ordinance outlawing adult entertainment businesses.
Sullivan died in his sleep in 2006 at age 47, but the club continued to operate under new ownership. The city was finally able to buy the club after negotiations.
There was no word on what the city will do with the property now.
