Fremont police arrested a man and woman Monday night in connection with two recent thefts at Fry’s Electronics stores in the Bay Area, a Fremont police detective said.
Around 8 p.m. Monday, 38-year-old Robert Murillo allegedly walked out of the Fry’s store at 43800 Osgood Road in Fremont with a shopping cart full of merchandise he hadn’t paid for, Detective Bill Veteran said.
Murillo then reportedly got into a Toyota Tacoma driven by a 45-year-old woman. The two headed toward Interstate Highway 680 and fled south.
Officers pursued the vehicle to Scott Creek Road where the driver briefly got out of the truck before jumping back in and driving on, according to Veteran.
The driver attempted to exit at Jacklin Road in Milpitas where the vehicle rolled over and both suspects were arrested, Veteran said.
Murillo was taken to a hospital with complaints of neck pain before he was booked into Santa Rita Jail on charges of burglary and evading arrest, Veteran said. The driver, whose name was not immediately released, was booked into jail on charges of evading officers and conspiracy to commit burglary.
Veteran said the two are believed to have been involved in a similar theft at a Fry’s Electronics store in San Jose on Saturday.
He said the store’s loss prevention personnel notified other area stores of the crime.
San Jose police Officer Jermaine Thomas said Tuesday that a theft was reported at a Fry’s Electronics store in the 500 block of East Brokaw Road at about 3 p.m. Saturday.
A suspect described as a Hispanic man in his 30s entered the store, stole an Xbox video game system and other merchandise, and ran out the door where a driver was waiting for him, Thomas said.

Armored truck robbery nets robbers six figures http://www.privateofficer.com

http://www.privateofficer.com/ Several persons held up a local armored truck and it appears that they got away with possibly six figures in the heist.
It happened on JFK Boulevard and Aldine Mail Route in northeast Houston. Harris County investigators call the robber bold for confronting guards with guns.
The owner would not talk to area televison reporters on camera but he did show them surveillance video of the robbery and while authorities are not saying exactly how much was stolen, the owner says he was expecting $100,000.
It’s a risky business”, said Mark Clark, Loomis Senior Vice President of Strategic Growth and Communications.
According to surveillance video viewed , the armed robber was waiting for the armored truck. When it arrived, one female guard checked the surroundings. The other got out with two bags of cash and was met with a gun. The crook then took hers.
“While the suspect disarmed the female guard, the guard was not hurt,” said Sgt. Noel Araguz with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. “Nobody in this establishment was injured in this ordeal.”
The robber took off and within minutes police and detectives were at the scene.
According to Loomis, last year there were approximately 75 armored car robberies nationwide.
In Houston the average, says an FBI spokeswoman, is one to two a year. The last big heist in Houston was in 2004 when almost $4 million was stolen from Triple D Security. That turned out to be an inside job.
Strict policies and procedures are in place for guards to follow.
There were three at Wednesday’s robbery. One must always stay in the truck. Loomis’ Mark Clark would not discuss the specifics of what happened, although he says all guards are armed and their priority is to avoid an incident.
“We don’t want gunfire on the streets. We don’t want to put people at risk so it is a last resort, but if it comes to the last resort, they are well trained,” said Clark.
Neither of the two guards who remained armed fired their guns.
Investigators say all the guards are cooperating and they believe the robbery is legitimate. The robber got away in a green Pontiac sedan, possibly a Grand Am or Grand Prix.
Call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS if you have any information about the crime.

Store manager assaults person wrongly accused of shoplifting http://www.privateofficer.com

Authorities say that a manager of a store at WestGate Mall went to far in detaining a suspected shoplifter and that he was charged with simple assault Tuesday after he grabbed a woman falsely suspected of shoplifting by the neck, leaving visible marks.
Lubi’s manager Hoshin Lee, 39, of 302 Birchrun Drive No. 305, Spartanburg, was booked into the Spartanburg County Detention Facility Tuesday afternoon. The incident that led to his arrest occurred shortly before 1:30 p.m. at Lubi’s, inside the mall.
The woman told police she was shopping at Lubi’s when she tried on clothing, then exited the dressing room and placed the clothes, which she did not want, on a rack next to the cash register.
She continued to carry a pair of shoes she intended to buy, the woman reported.
Lee then went into the dressing room and found three clothing alarm sensors behind a mirror in the dressing room, she said.
He had her come back by the dressing room, and, when she did, he grabbed her by the throat to try to get her to confess to shoplifting, the woman reported. Lee then closed the security gate to the store entrance, keeping her inside the store, she said.
T
he woman and Lee both called mall security, with the woman using her personal cell phone. Mall security officers and police responded to the store and found both still in a tussle.
Police determined the woman, a 20-year-old manager at Dick’s Sporting Goods, also at the mall, had not intended to steal anything from the store.
According to police reports, Lee told officers he only placed his hands on the woman’s shoulders to keep her in the store until security arrived, but added his hands might have slipped to her neck area.
An officer who looked at the clothing in question determined one item still had a security sensor attached.
Two pieces of clothing that were missing sensors were on clearance and did not have any sensors on them to begin with, according to police reports.
Shopkeepers have a right to detain someone that they know has shoplifted but in this situation, the manager used excessive force and it was a case where no shoplifting offense had occurred according to an officer at the store.

Police arrest security guards for outstanding warrants www.privateofficer.com
Police arrest security guards for outstanding warrants http://www.privateofficer.com
Atlanta GA. Aug 8 2008
Atlanta police arrested two security guards and discovered one guard had outstanding warrants and the other was a convicted felon, according to a police report.
Jovan T. Butler, 29, and Kamara C. Johnson, 31, both employed by Executive Patrol, were arrested Sunday morning after a man accused Butler of pointing a gun at him while the guard was on duty at an apartment complex on Allison Court in southwest Atlanta, the police report said.
The man who made the allegations, Martey Robinson, 21, had been taken into custody for trespassing at the apartment complex where the guards were working, the report said.
Butler and Johnson denied having a weapon in the guards’ vehicle, but an officer found a loaded .45-caliber gun between the driver and passenger seats, the report said.
A background check revealed Johnson’s warrants in the city of Atlanta.
Johnson was arrested for her outstanding warrants on charges of aggravated assault and burglary. Butler was arrested on charges of carrying a concealed weapon, pointing a pistol at another and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to jail logs.
The report states that Butler had a felony drug conviction from 1999, but Butler said in a phone interview Wednesday that he doesn’t have a felony drug conviction, but rather a 2002 felony conviction related to a domestic violence incident and an earlier misdemeanor conviction for marijuana possession.
Butler contended that he did not know there was a gun in vehicle and denied pointing it at Robinson.
When reached by phone, the owner of the company, Willie Manson, said both guards had been with him for less than six weeks.
He said he did not run a criminal background check on Johnson and did not know she had warrants for her arrest. Manson said he knew about Butler’s criminal convictions when he hired him.

Man commits suicide after shooting neighbor www.privateofficer.com
LOGANVILLE, Ga.North Metro Atlanta) Aug 8 2008
By: Rick McCann
Ntl Assoc Private Officers
http://www.privateofficer.com Police say that a man out in his own yard was shot as he mowed the grass early Thursday afternoon.
Police were called and soon swarmed a Loganville neighborhood after officials say a man was shot by his neighbor while he was mowing the lawn.
The incident happened on Vintage Oaks Drive in Loganville just before 1 p.m. Thursday.
Authorities on the scene said that a man was mowing his lawn when his neighbor drove up and shot him.
Police have identified the alleged shooter as Charles Edwin Quinn.
SWAT Team members were called to the scene because police believed Quinn may have barricaded himself inside his house.
A robot sent inside to make contact with Quinn discovered his body. Officers say that he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Officials said that the victim was able to make it inside his home to call 911 after he was shot. A lifeflight helicopter arrived on the scene to take the shooting victim to a nearby hospital. He suffered non-life threatening injuries.
Authorities said they have no motive for the shooting and don’t know why Quinn then went inside and committed suicide.
Police investigators kept the scene secure for most of the day and well into the night as they tried to figure out the what and whys to this bizarre shooting and suicide.
