Colerain Township police say a woman caught stealing from the Macy’s store at Northgate Mall ran over a security officer who was trying to stop her as she tried to get away.
Andy Demeropolis, of the Colerain Township police, said that one of the two security guards trying to stop the woman was on a bicycle.
“She continued to back up, then his bike got caught under the tire of the vehicle and he started screaming at her, “Please stop,’” said Demeropolis.
Demeropolis says she did not – and ran over both of his legs.
A number of people in the parking lot witnessed what happened and took down her license plate number. Many called 911 on their cellphones and police and emergency rescue personnel were immediately dispatched.
Police used the information from witnesses to track her to Lincoln Heights where she allegedly went inside a house there.
According to police, she refused to exit the ehouse and was hold up and refused all police commands so police had the SUV towed.
They also say that Macy’s had surveillance video of the woman.
In the meantime, they will gather enough evidence so that a judge can issue a warrant for her arrest.
Demeropolis says instead of facing a shoplifting charge, she now faces a felony robbery charge and felonious assault on the security officer.

Credit card scam thwarted by store security officers http://www.privateofficer.com
Gainesville Police uncovered a credit card scam Thursday evening that is not believed to have been used in the area before.
Officer Justin Poirot arrested a man who had apparently re-magnetized the back of a credit card. While the front of the car bore the man’s name, the strip on the back of the card had been embedded with someone else’s account information. The idea was that the man would be able to use the card to make purchases and someone else would get the bill.
The apparent scam was uncovered at the Archer Road Wal-Mart store around 9 p.m. when a man tried to pay for three video games totally $63.48 and get $60 cash back while checking out.
Wal-Mart security officers caught the man, who was identified as Donald William Scott, 22, of Pittsburgh. Scott was charged with retail theft, fraudulent use of a credit card and scheme to defraud and obtain property.
Following his arrest, Scott reportedly told Poirot how the scam was supposed to work. Poirot said Scott was able to re-magnetize credit cards with equipment he bought and that he got the account information from overseas. Scott also reportedly told the officer that he had altered more than one credit card and intended to use the cards to buy items at Wal Mart stores around the state.
When Scott was arrested, officers said they found a California identification card in his wallet with Scott’s picture on it, but bearing a fake name and birthdate. Scott’s explanation to officers was that he owns equipment to make fake identification cards and charges $50 to $100 per card.
Police are still looking for an alleged accomplice in the scam.

On Thursday, Aug. 7, Velazquez reportedly was detained by Wal-Mart security for allegedly taking a pair of stereo headphones.
Police officer Chad Landry was called to the scene at about 6:42 p.m.

Velazquez was lying on the floor on his back with the loss-prevention officer holding his hands against the ground. A large amount of blood was on the floor coming from the loss-prevention officer’s head.
The security officer turned Velazquez over and Landry handcuffed him.

The officer said he stopped Velazquez outside the store and walked him to the security office. Velazquez began to complain about stomach pain, but had been cooperative, so he allowed him to stand up, the report stated.
Out of the corner of his eye, the officer said he saw Velazquez swing something toward him, and turned his head to avoid the blow. It was then he tried to get away, but the officer grabbed the back of his shirt and pulled him to the ground.
The drill had been left in the office and belonged to one of the workers doing remodeling inside the store, the report stated. The battery incident was captured on video cameras inside the office, the report stated.

Officials said they received several complaints of cars being broken into in the area of Harris Road and Rucker Road. Victims said their cars had been broken into and personal items were stolen
While investigating these complaints, one of the officers located a cell phone inside a vehicle that did not belong to the victim. The officer contacted a “contact” listed on the telephone and was given the name of the cell phone’s owner. Based upon this information officers were made aware the suspect name given was a person familiar to the agency for prior thefts.
“(The officer) went into the contact section in the phone, called somebody that was on that phone as a contact and said, ‘Hey, somebody’s lost this phone, who does it belong to?’ A name was given to the officer,” said George Gordon with the Alpharetta Police Department.
Officers went to the address they knew about on Wills Road and located the juvenile who owned the phone. The teen confessed to breaking into 18 automobiles in the area, according to officials. A search of the teenager’s house revealed numerous stolen items which were recovered, police said. Officers said they were given the names of two additional suspects who remain under investigation.
The juvenile suspect was placed under arrest and charged with the offense of entering automobile with numerous counts. The investigation continues.

It seems that an Anderson couple, who didn’t have wheels of their own, decided to employ a taxicab to help shuttle their stolen goods from place to place and now both are facing multiple counts of shoplifting in their scam that involves the use of the cab to pull of their theft spree.
The couple, operating out of an Anderson motel, admitted to stealing a car stereo, valued at $169.99, on July 19, but pleaded not guilty to shoplifting at the same store on June 23 and July 8. They were arrested Aug. 1 for suspicious behavior in the same store.
Judge Ken Mattison, who ordered $2,195 bonds for each Canada until a jury trial is held on Sept. 19, accepted their guilty plea to the third charge and ordered each to pay a fine of $1,092.50 or spend 30 days in jail.
Store security personnel notified police and told officers that the couple was seen earlier in a Yellow Cab, and they always requested the same driver, the report states.
Police arrested the couple in a nearby parking lot after they refused to ride in a cab that arrived with a different driver, the report states.
Both are still incarcerated pending their bond release or a court trial.

Copper thieves sell on the internet www.privateofficer.com
Copper thieves sell on the internet http://www.privateofficer.com
Last month a law went into effect that requires all metal dealers in Tennessee to not only register with the state, but sellers have to also leave a thumbprint and show photo identification.
In addition, companies no longer are allowed to buy from people with felony theft and burglary convictions.
As a result, police for a while saw a big drop in the number of people stealing air-condition coils and catalytic converters.
“We have people popping up, acting as middle men,” said Metro police Lt. Danny Driskell.
Dealers and some thieves are heading to Craigslist and other Web sites to do business. Search for “copper” on the site, and there are lists of people looking to buy and sell metals, offering cash on the spot for scraps.
However, part of the law requires that most dealers pay their customers by check or voucher.
Police said not only is what the thieves doing illegal, they are also hurting businesses that are following the law.
Authorities have busted several of the online dealers through undercover buys, but as more are popping up, they’ll be ready to put a dent in this dirty work.
“We’re going to arrest them, and prosecute them to the max of the law,” said Driskell.
Metro police said the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is working with them and other counties by setting up stings to bust the illegal dealers.
