OREM Utah Sept 19 2008 — After apprehending an Orem man and an American Fork woman earlier this month, a West Jordan bail bondsman was arrested Tuesday.
The 60-year-old man is being held at Utah County Jail on $200,000 cash bail for investigation of kidnapping, burglary, burglary of a residence, burglary of an automobile, theft, assault and failure to notify law enforcement, according to a 4th District Court affidavit of probable cause.
On Sept. 4, Orem police responded to the residence of a woman who said a bondsman came to her house and forced his way into her home. She said the bondsman told her he was looking for a man and then searched her entire house without her permission.
The woman said the man then handcuffed her and forced her into his vehicle before driving off to find someone else. She said the man drove her to various locations in Orem and American Fork, often speeding and running red lights. Eventually, the man let her off on the street, she told police.
An American Fork man told police that the same evening the same bondsman came to his residence, pushed his way into the house and put the man in handcuffs. The bondsman then forced the man into his vehicle and drove him around Orem.
The man said at times the bondsman handcuffed him to the vehicle while he went off to look for another individual. After two hours, the bondsman dropped the man off and returned a passport that he had taken from the victim’s car.
Orem and American Fork police said they were not notified by the bondsman prior to his attempts to apprehend bail jumpers within their cities.
