A Mesa man free on bail and pending trial in connection with a previous Wal-Mart robbery was arrested Thursday on suspicion of robbing another store.
According to court documents, Marcos R. Jaramillo went into the store at 1955 S. Stapley Road in Mesa on Sept. 5, placed electronic items and liquor into a Wal-Mart bag and walked past the cash registers.
He knocked down a store security agent and stood over him in a threatening manner before leaving in a car, the documents state.
Jaramillo told a detective he used a “football swimming” technique to get past the security and knocked him down, but not intentionally.
Jaramillo was free on $8,100 bail for a July incident in which he was charged with aggravated assault, theft and robbery. He was released Aug. 22.
In that case, he pulled a knife and threatened employees of another Wal-Mart store as he tried to flee, according to court documents.
Some people got minor cuts when they tackled him.
He was taken into custody when officers arrived and is being held at the county jail.

Man charged after bomb threat at Denver Airport www.privateofficer.com
DENVER CO Sept 28 2008 – A passenger was taken into custody Saturday after making comments about having explosives on a Northwest airlines flight taking off from DIA.Flight 552 from Denver to Minneapolis was delayed for an hour as police and fire responded.

Wyoming Airport Police May Loose Certification www.privateofficer.com
JACKSON, Wyo. Sept 28 2008

NTL. ASSOC. PRIVATE OFFICERS
An airport who recently started their own police force is about to be grounded according to a local news report.
The Jackson Hole Airport has hit another dead-end in its efforts to find an agency willing to certify its law enforcement officers according to this news article.
Currently the officers are certified through the Teton County Sheriff’s department, however last week week sheriff Bob Zimmer reportedly told the Jackson Hole Airport Board that his department won’t continue to certify the three airport officers past Dec. 1.
The sheriff says he’s concerned about the liability of taking responsibility for officers who aren’t under his direct command.
Looking for another department to certify their officers, the airport looked at an area national park but officials at the Grand Teton National Park on Thursday also declined to provide law-enforcement support for the airport. A Park Service official says that providing airport security isn’t the agency’s responsibility.
If the airport can not find a law enforcement agency to keep their officers certified, the officers would loose their arrest authority and be left back where they started, a security department.

Police sting nabs shoplifters www.privateofficer.com
GULFPORT MS. Sept 28 2008– Undercover police officers posing as shoppers at factory outlet stores arrested four adults and two juveniles in an ongoing investigation targeting alleged shoplifters, Gulfport Police Chief Alan Weatherford said.
Arrested Friday were Amber S. Jones, 23, Dinnika Baham, 21, Miquel T. Baham, 20, and Lakisha M. Robertson, 18, along with two minors, ages 17 and 16.
All are from the New Orleans area and are accused on multiple counts. The adults also are accused of aiding and abetting shoplifting by minors, contributing to the neglect and delinquency of minors and obstructing justice.
Police said they identified the alleged shoplifters taking items only to flee later, leaving the shopping outlet off U.S. 49 in a 2001 Nissan Maxima. While attempting to escape, police said, Jones jumped in the car, leaving the 16-year-old behind when she tried to jump in as well.
A traffic stop was conducted minutes later, and Jones was arrested. Some of the stolen items also were found in the Nissan. The store managers later were able to identify the suspects, police said.
The juveniles were released to their parents’ custody. The adults were jailed on bonds of $634 bond for each count of shoplifting and contributing to the delinquency of minors. Jones faced an additional bond of $894 for the neglect charge.
The undercover work is part of a Gulfport Police Department program called Cop Shop.

A Detroit police sergeant suspected of arranging his wife’s killing was found dead by an apparent suicide in a suburban park.
Sgt. David Cobb, 38, who had been suspended without pay, hanged himself, police said. His body was found near a bike path in Dodge Park in Sterling Heights, The Detroit Free Press reported.
Cobb’s wife, Rose, 47, was gunned down Dec. 26 in the parking lot of a Detroit pharmacy while her husband was in the store. Vincent Smothers, 27, the alleged killer, told investigators after his arrest in April that Cobb had hired him.
Cobb was arrested briefly and then released for lack of evidence. Police sources told the Free Press there had been recent progress in the investigation.
Smothers said Cobb was angry because his wife had been cheating on him and he wanted money from her life insurance.

Visit to doctor’s office turns into robbery arrest for cop www.privateofficer.com
Toledo OH. Sept 28 2008

Dan Wagner was going to the chiropractor’s office yesterday to get a treatment for an old back injury.
Instead, the off-duty Toledo police officer, who was in plain clothes, chased down and arrested a knife-wielding man who is accused of robbing three people in the waiting room of John E. Sutherland’s chiropractor’s office, 1825 North Reynolds Rd., police said.
“We’re never off-duty,” said Mr. Wagner, president of the Toledo Police Patrolman’s Association, who was seeking treatment for an injury he suffered while on the job in 2003.
Ernest Murphy, 20, of 5817 Dorr St., Apt. 1 was charged with three counts of aggravated robbery and was being held without bond last night in the Lucas County jail.
Murphy, wearing a baseball cap and a gray hooded sweatshirt, walked into the chiropractor’s office between Bancroft and Dorr streets about 8 a.m., police said.
He held an 8-inch knife to the throats of two patients, a 79-year-old man and 54-year-old woman, and demanded they give him money, they said.
Murphy then demanded money from an office employee, was given an undisclosed amount, and walked out the front door, police said.
After realizing what had happened, Dr. Michael Poitinger went to get Mr. Wagner, who was in a room toward the back of the office.
“He said, ‘Hey, Dan, I need you up front. We’re getting robbed.’•” Mr. Wagner said. “I thought he was joking.”
But after Dr. Poitinger said it a second time, Mr. Wagner knew he’d have to delay his appointment.
“I could tell by the seriousness in his voice that something actually was going on,” he said.
The two headed to the front of the office and could see the suspect walking south on Reynolds.
Mr. Wagner asked the office employees to call 911 as he headed out the door to his truck in the parking lot.
He followed the suspect down Reynolds, then drove through a nearby field, and started pursuing the man on foot.
At one point during the chase, Mr. Wagner saw the man toss an object into a Dumpster. It later was determined to be the knife and his baseball cap, Mr. Wagner said.
Mr. Wagner caught up with the suspect in the backyard of a house in the 5200 block of Brandel Circle.
With his gun drawn, the officer ordered Murphy to the ground and held him there until uniformed officers arrived.
Later, Mr. Wagner returned to the chiropractor’s office, where he received his scheduled treatment.
Chief Mike Navarre commended Mr. Wagner for his actions.
“You can’t shut out criminal activity because you’re off the clock,” he said. “The law enforcement authority is with you 24 hours a day, seven days a week.”
The chief said similar incidents have occurred to other off-duty officers, who have been in banks or carryouts during robberies.
In August, 2007, an off-duty Lucas County sheriff’s sergeant was working part time as a security guard at the AP Federal Credit Union on North Detroit Avenue when a man claiming to have a gun robbed it.
Sgt. James Schiavone followed the man into a nearby alley, where a second person was waiting in a minivan. He followed the van as the men drove toward Manhattan Boulevard and Cherry Street.
The men got out of the van, were pursued on foot, and later were taken into custody.
“I was right there when it happened, so I was right on his heels the whole time,” Sergeant Schiavone said after the incident.

http://www.privateofficer.com/ – A man accused of breaking into Dodger Stadium, stealing a uniform and posing as one of the team’s players pleaded not guilty Friday to several criminal charges, a District Attorney’s spokeswoman said.
Ronald Higgins, 47, is due back in court Oct. 8 when a date for a preliminary hearing is expected to be set.
He is charged with second-degree commercial burglary, grand theft of personal property and trespass with intent to interfere and is being in lieu of $45,000 bail
Higgins was arrested Wednesday morning after a security officer found him walking on the playing field in a Dodger uniform and holding a baseball glove with two balls — all of which had allegedly been stolen from the premises, said Shiara Davila of the District Attorney’s Office.
He identified himself as a Dodger player, but the security officer recognized him from an earlier incident and was able to detain him while he called the police.
Officers later found Higgins’ clothes in the bat boys’ locker room, Davila said.
If convicted, Higgins faces a maximum three years and 10 months in state prison.

Sandra Osby Jackson, 39, of 818 10th Ave. N.W., Christopher Deshawn Jackson, 21, and Terry Jackson, 42, both of 142 Denham Road, were each charged with theft by shoplifting.
An employee at Wal-Mart stated he saw all three in the shoe department about 4:13 p.m. Tuesday. He became suspicious when all three allegedly appeared to be more interested in who was around instead of the items in the department.
After picking up a pair of shoes and the box, the three went to the deli and ordered two cups of chicken bites then continued shopping.
Christopher was given the chicken and allegedly put it under his apron. Terry allegedly took the shoes and put them in a bag before putting them underneath other items in her shopping cart.
The three then went to a checkout aisle and paid for some items but allegedly not the shoes and chicken.
They left the store, but the employee stopped them, got back the items and took them back into the store. Additional items were also allegedly found in Sandra’s purse after the three were brought back. The value of the alleged stolen items was $120.60.
The officer arrived at the scene, placed all three under arrest and took them to Colquitt County Jail.

A Phoenix high school security officer was injured trying to break up a lunchroom fight Thursday according to school officials.
The fight started with two students during the freshman lunch session at Alhambra High School, according to a district news release.
The security officer responded and tried to separate the students and ended up taking them to the ground. According to the release, other students then jumped into the fray.
A total of six students ended up involved in the fight and beating on the security officer.
The security officer and several staff members were able to quell the disturbance and the security officer went to an urgent care facility for bumps and bruises.
Five of the students were treated at the school’s nurse’s office for small cuts, bumps and bruises.
The six students are suspended pending the investigation, according to the release. Assault charges may be filed and expulsions are possible depending on the outcome of the investigation.
