NTL. ASSOC. PRIVATE OFFICERS
Muscatine police are investigating acts of violence against security officers and have agreed to increase patrols outside the Grain Processing Corp. after security guards complained of picketers shooting at them with BB guns.
According to the security department, there have been several incidents of someone firing pellet guns at them as they patrol the area.
About 300 workers represented by the United Food and Commercial Workers union have been locked out of the plant since August. 22.
That’s a week after union members did not ratify a contract offered by the company. One union official, Tony Newton, called reports about the shooting “propaganda the company is having its guards do to get something started.”
Police said that they will keep a closer eye on the situation and make arrests if a crime is committed.
