A Beardstown woman was arrested for the second time in less than a week Tuesday after she and another woman were accused of shoplifting.
Rebecca C. French, 23, and Jessica M. Pierce, 21, of Astoria are charged in McDonough County with felony retail theft. They were in jail on $2,000 bond each on those charges.
Macomb police were called to Kmart at about 3:15 p.m.
Police reports said French and Pierce took shopping carts with multiple items to the changing rooms and emerged with a “bulging purse” and “bulging diaper bag.”
A store security officer stopped them. Prosecutors said Wednesday both women later confessed to stealing items, which included clothing and cosmetics, and that both were also wearing bras and underwear stolen from the store.
Police said French had 12 items worth about $160, while Pierce had 23 items worth about $165.
French was arrested Oct. 9 on a felony drug charge in McDonough County. She was released on bond in that case.

Security officers arrest man for breaking courthouse windows www.privateofficer.com
A man convicted of dumping roofing asphalt on the steps of the Gene Snyder Courthouse was arrested again Thursday after allegedly throwing bricks through windows in the building.
Daniel Cobble faces a felony charge of injury to federal property, said Rich Knighten with the U.S. Marshals service. The charge carries a penalty of up to three years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
Cobble is being held at the Oldham County jail, awaiting a Monday hearing at which bail would be set, Knighten said.
About 8:10 a.m. Thursday, court security officers saw a man outside the building at 601 W. Broadway wheeling a shopping cart with a box of paperwork and a large wooden cross. Officers went to investigate and found Cobble in the foyer of the building throwing bricks through the windows, Knighten said.
Cobble broke three window panes. He had a fourth brick in his hand when officers grabbed him, Knighten said.
When officers questioned Cobble, Knighten said, Cobble told them that he wanted to be arrested so he could talk to a judge about the courts’ treatment of low-income people.
In May 2006, Cobble was arrested after he dumped 16 five-gallon buckets of asphalt on the steps and inside the front door of the federal courthouse.
Cobble was sentenced to the approximately seven months he had served while awaiting trial. He also was given two years of supervised release, which he is still serving, Knighten said.
The windows cost about $1,500 to replace, Knighten said.

www.privateofficer.com- Three women, including an off-duty Kohl’s department store employee and an on-duty cashier, were arrested Friday evening for trying to make off with more than $1,200 in merchandise, police said.
After Brittany Salinas’ shift was over Friday at the 500 Connecticut Ave. chain store, she and her friend, Angelica Rendon, returned and began filling a shopping cart at about 7 p.m., police Sgt. Praveen John said.
When they got to the cashier, store security began scrutinizing the transaction. Watching a surveillance camera trained on the cash register, security saw that cashier Kwamia Dorleans was passing items through the cashier station without scanning them while other items were being swiped, only to have their prices deleted seconds later from the cash register total, John said.
Store security personnel confronted Salinas and Rendon outside the store and confirmed that the transaction undervalued the the merchandise, John said.
Counting through the bagged items, security tallied $1,349 worth of shirts, jeans, kids clothing and shoes, although Dorleans charged them $103 for the items, John said.
Salinas and Dorleans were fired on the spot, John said.
Salinas, 20, of 2 Lincoln Ave.; Dorleans, 18 of 23 Orchard St.; and Rendon, 20, of 20 Monroe St., were charged with third-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit third-degree larceny. They were released on a promise to appear in court Oct. 30.

www.privateofficer.com Police said that two private security officers found themselves trapped in the middle of a riot involving nearly two dozen people when they called for police assistance.
Gresham police responded to the fight at the GSI Community Center at about 10:30 p.m. to find more than 20 men involved in a brawl, Lt. Jeffry Hansen said.
Two private security officers who had been hired for the event lost control of the crowd when people began fighting.. A security guard hired by GSI told officers that he had lost his partner during the riot and later said, “It was like hell. I have never seen anything like that.”
Officers said there were more than 100 people inside the center while the fight was going on, and when officers arrived and tried to pulling apart the people who were fighting, the crowd that was watching turned on the police and began to attack them, Hansen said.
A request was sent out for all available officers to respond and 38 officers from the Portland Police Bureau, Gresham Police Department, Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office, Troutdale Police Department and Fairview Police Department responded to assist according to.
Officers said they were hit by people swinging belts and one officer was punched in the face, Hansen said.
No one was seriously injured in the riot and officers and rioters generally only suffered scrapes, cuts and bruises, which was surprising considering the severity of the fighting, Hansen said.
Police said that alcohol had helped fueled the fighting and that many were intoxicated.
During the riot, a large cake and decorative marbles spilled onto the floor, which added to the chaos and made conditions additionally dangerous, Hansen said.
Police arrested six men during the incident on charges varying from disorderly conduct to assaulting an officer, Hansen said.
During the past 18 month, the Gresham Police Department has been called to the GSI Community Center 20 times, responding to assaults, thefts, loud music, vandalism, and in six incidents an officer was assaulted, Hansen said.
Neighbors surrounding the center have filed complaints involving loud drunken individuals visiting the center, vandalism to the area residences and vehicles and trash left in the street, Hansen said.
