www.privateofficer.com– A woman suspected of shoplifting from a Walgreen’s is charged with resisting arrest after she “pointed a well-used and bloody” tampon at two Fort Pierce police officers and tried to touch one of them with it, according to an arrest affidavit.
Ermith Emonfils, 27, is also charged with retail theft after she allegedly walked out of the drug store Tuesday without paying for a $29.99 box of Elizabeth Arden Mediterranean cologne. Police said she also had a bottle of bright green Sinful Colors nail polish and a package of extra-long black fake eyelashes.
According to the affidavit, Emonfils walked toward one of the officers and was pulling down the front of her overalls and shirt, saying, “Sex? Sex?”
After she was put in handcuffs and being placed in the back seat of a police car, Emonfils “grabbed behind her and pointed a well-used and bloody female sanitary napkin” at the officers, the affidavit read. Both officers told her to drop it, but she refused.
Emonfils then tried to touch one of the officers with it while he held her between the back door and door frame of the car, according to the affidavit.
One of the officers disposed of the item in a plastic bag Emonfils allegedly used to transport the stolen items and continued with transporting the shoplifter to the county jail.

Security officer thwarts robbery by shooting at suspects http://www.privateofficer.com
The attempted robbery of a Colorado Springs credit union was thwarted today when a security officer opened fire on a group of armed men wearing Halloween masks.
Lt. David Whitlock, spokesman for the Colorado Springs Police Department, said the men approached the One Thirteen Credit Union, 3505 N. Chestnut St., at about 9:44 a.m. after parking their car in the lot near the front door.
The guard saw that at least two of the suspects were carrying firearms, and at least three of the suspects were wearing “Halloween” type costume masks, as well as hooded sweatshirts with the hoods up, said Whitlock.
Whitlock said the security officer opened fire as the armed men stood at the entrance of the credit union.
“While still in the business, the guard fired multiple shots from a handgun through the glass of the entrance doors and a window at the suspects,” said Whitlock.
The men fled, but it was unclear if they all fled in a vehicle described as a late 1990s tan or gold 4-door Tarus.
Investigators said it is not known if any of the suspects were hit but that the gunfire may have hit the getaway car.
The security guard is a contracted employee of the One Thirteen Credit Union.
Whitlock said he is licensed to carry a firearm and works for a local security company. He added that no charges are being considered or anticipated against the security guard.
The first suspect is described as a white male, approximately 27, 5-foot-6 inches, with brown hair wearing a burgundy hooded sweatshirt. He was not wearing a mask.
The second suspect was described as a black male, about 35, 6-foot, with long sideburns and a goatee, wearing a dark-colored hoodie and blue jeans.
Because of the masks, the two other suspects could not be identified as far as approximate race and age.

Mall security, police arrest man with machete http://www.privateofficer.com
Efrain F Jensen, 22, was charged with aggravated assault, terroristic threats and possession of a weapon, police said. He was committed to the Gloucester County Jail after failing to post $2,500 in ba
Around 10:30 Monday morning, Jensen and a 30-year-old woman nearly crashed into each other in the parking lot of the mall after which the two got out of their cars and began to argue over who cut who off, police said.
“Originally, (Jensen) believes the female is a male due to the fact that she has a (knit) skull cap on,” explained Deptford Det. Sgt. George Johnson. “So he feels threatened and grabs the machete out of his car.”
Jensen allegedly told the woman that he was having a bad day. As he held the machete, he also allegedly threatened to kill her, according to police.
“When he realizes she is a female, he backs off,” said Johnson.
The Salem man then put the machete away and headed into the mall. The victim called police, who arrived and sought the help of the Deptford Mall security.
Jensen was found shopping inside the mall and police allowed him to finish up and head back to his car before arresting him.
“We didn’t feel as though he was a threat to anyone in the mall,” said Johnson. “We knew he did not have the machete with him, so we felt it was best to take him into custody outside of the mall.”
Johnson credited the help of the mall security in allowing the arrest to go down without any trouble.
“It was really handled well by our department and the mall security because it was really without incident,” he said.
When it comes to road rage, Johnson urged drivers to take a moment and calm down before flying off the handle.
“It was a matter of two people, one cuts off another one,” said Johnson, “and it happens all the time. We have all done it and you just have to move on. It is a safety issue.”

Romance wasn’t on the minds of the man and woman who stole 52 pairs of panties from the Victoria’s Secret store at the Montclair Plaza this month.
Instead, authorities say the Baldwin Park pair belonged to one of the sophisticated shoplifting rings that have been targeting Victoria’s Secret and other high-end stores throughout the Inland region.
Unlike traditional grab-and-run thieves, these “booster” thieves stuff stolen merchandise into large purses or bags lined with materials that block the signals from anti-theft tags attached to the merchandise.
“They go in empty and come out fat,” said Rancho Cucamonga police Cpl. Tom Noriega, who is stationed at the Victoria Gardens station.
In the Montclair case, authorities recovered $762 in stolen underwear from the suspects’ booster bag and another $1,500 in Victoria’s Secret lingerie in their vehicle.
Montclair police said that the store lost more than $10,000 in merchandise to theft in September.
Officials with Limited Brands, of Ohio, which operates Victoria’s Secret stores, declined to say Wednesday how many other stores have been hit in the area.
A 2007 report on CSOonline.com, a security and risk management Web site, claimed that “Victoria’s Secret — Limited’s most popular target — has had more than $2.7 million worth of bras reported stolen, a more than 80 percent increase over the previous year.”
Organized retail crime accounts for as much as $30 billion in retail losses nationwide every year, the FBI reports.
Booster thieves typically work in teams of three or more, Inland authorities said. One person might act as a lookout, while another person might be used to distract store staff. Another person serves as a driver.
The teams are very mobile, Noriega said. Some teams hit stores up and down the state.
It is not uncommon for thieves to walk into stores with long lists of items they want to steal, said David Hidalgo, a San Bernardino County supervising deputy district attorney.
Stolen items end up being sold out of people’s homes, at swap meets or on Internet sites, such as Craigslist, Hidalgo and other authorities said.
Increased vigilance among mall security, law enforcement and corporate loss-prevention investigators has had some success.
In the Montclair case, corporate loss prevention investigators recognized the suspects from surveillance images taken during a previous theft at the same store.
In Temecula earlier this year, Riverside County sheriff’s investigators announced the arrests of eight people in connection with an organized theft ring targeting several Southern California malls.
Security at The Promenade in Temecula alerted deputies to four people suspected of stealing cosmetics from a store. Deputies detained the four and found $14,000 in apparently stolen merchandise from that mall and an Abercrombie & Fitch store in Escondido.
Investigators decided to cite and release the four individuals so they could secretly follow them.
During the next week, the group hit stores at Ontario Mills, the Glendale Galleria and The Shops at Mission Viejo, stealing $15,000 to $20,000 in merchandise each day, authorities said.
The four were arrested again plus four others including the suspected ringleader.
“They covered a lot of ground in one day,” said Riverside County sheriff’s Sgt. Keith Knotek.

Man arrested after 15 hour stand-off at hospital www.privateofficer.com
Man arrested after 15 hour stand-off at hospital http://www.privateofficer.com
CONWAY, SC OCT 23 2008 The man who held a 15-hour standoff with police outside of the Conway Medical Center surrendered to authorities Wednesday morning and has been identified by the U.S. Attorney General’s Office.
Robert Gustav McGowan, Jr., of Myrtle Beach, had been holed up in a car outside of the emergency room since late Tuesday evening. He is now in police custody at the Florence Detention Center where he is expected to make a federal court appearance on Thursday.
Julie Rajotte, spokeswoman for the Conway Medical Center, told WMBF News the incident escalated after McGowan drove up to the ambulance bay in a blue Firebird and refused to move. When hospital security asked him to move and McGowan’s car stayed in place, local law enforcement and the Horry County SWAT and Negotiation Team was dispatched to the scene.
McGowan, police confirmed, was considered armed and dangerous. He was in possession of a long-barreled shotgun or rifle.
Conway Police Capt. Rodney Sessions said police and SWAT members were communicating with McGowan by yelling through his car window. Police said when he was not talking to them or his parole officer who was asked to be sent to the scene, McGowan had the music playing loudly in his car.
Authorities say there was no indication the man had any connection to the hospital and are unaware of what sparked the standoff. McGowan, they say, was calm and rational throughout the event, only requesting coffee Wednesday morning.
As a precaution, hospital administrators locked down the facility and surrounding area Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning. Patients receiving treatment in the emergency room area of the hospital were moved to a different location and ambulances were put on diversion, according to Rajotte.
Police records show McGowan had a track record dating back to 1997. He was previously charged with assault and battery with intent to kill and resisting arrest with a deadly weapon. McGowan was sentenced to 12 years and another 10 years in jail for the charges, respectively.

Authorities also charged a second person Wednesday, accusing her of being involved in a death-row inmate’s possession of a phone.
Texas Department of Criminal Justice officials also said officers have seized at least one subscriber identity module, or SIM card, a postage-stamp-size tool that plugs into cellphones and transfers information from one phone to another.
The prisons have been locked down since Monday evening after Gov. Rick Perry ordered agency officials to ferret out any contraband.
The order followed the disclosure that death-row inmate Richard Tabler had made threatening calls to a state senator and had shared his illegal cellphone with at least nine other inmates.
Late Wednesday, officers transferred Mr. Tabler to a prison psychiatric facility after finding that he had ripped a 3-foot piece of bedsheet and attached it to a fixture in his death-row cell.
The 10 condemned prisoners made 2,800 calls in nearly a month, and the inmate’s mother, Lorraine Tabler, was arrested Monday and jailed on suspicion of paying for phone minutes.
Mr. Tabler’s sister, Kristina Martinez, surrendered to police in Killeen on Wednesday after she was named in a warrant charging her with providing the phone. Officials said earlier that a guard had been bribed.
Criminal justice department spokeswoman Michelle Lyons said it could take three weeks to complete the search of large prisons, some of which – including the Polunsky Unit, where death-row inmates are housed – have more than 2,000 inmates.

Mason Stevenson, 38, died on Sept 4th at the Beaverton/Cedar Hills Winco store after being apprehended for shoplifting.
His girlfriend blamed three employees who she said handcuffed him and sat on him.
Store officials said Stevenson was trying to get away after shoplifting, and the security officers were detaining him.
District Attorney Rob Bletko said Wednesday that after reviewing the case, he decided not to proceed with criminal charges. Bletko went on to say that the degree of force used was not excessive and the conduct of the Winco security employees was not criminal.
