www.privateofficer.com Police said what began as a fight among several woman quickly escalated into the murder of a school security officer.
Police say a woman in Paterson ran down a crowd of other women with her car during a wild brawl. Five women were seriously injured and another, 26-year-old Natalie Meestre, was killed.
Neighbors do not believe that Meestre, a school security guard and mother of two, was involved in the fight. Police believe that she was a bystander and she may have been trying to break it up.”It’s horrible because Natalie is a family member and she’s got two children,” one neighbor said. “Her oldest son was told, and he just said, ‘God came and took my mommy,’” neighbor Alice Green said.
A makeshift memorial marks the spot where police say a woman was jumped and beaten by a group of other women, before running them down with her SUV.
“I heard boom, boom, and I came out and saw all of the bodies in the street,” Paterson resident Michelle Tobia said.
Witnesses say the SUV was sitting in the road when the group of women started fighting.
Then the woman being attacked jumped into the driver’s seat, plowed through the crowd, and drove away.
“When I came outside, my daughter was laying in the middle of the street,” Shirley Morris, the victim’s mother, said. “They were telling me that she got hit, and then I saw Natalie laying right there.”
Police have made an arrest in the hit and run death and have charged 24-year-old Keema Green after locating her at her home in Teaneck.
Green is charged with causing the death while driving with a suspended license but that charge may be elevated to a more serious offense as police continue to piece together the details of the incident.
Assault charges may also be filed against the other woman involved who assaulted Green. Green’s is being held in custody and her arraignment was set for today.

Security officers shot at Dave & Busters www.privateofficer.com

Security officers shot at Dave & Busters http://www.privateofficer.com

San Diego CA. NOV 10 2008

Three employees of Dave and Busters in Mission Valley were shot after an altercation with customers early Sunday morning. After a disturbance inside the restaurant, security officers ejected a group of customers, police said.
When the suspects were escorted outside the building a fight ensued.
“The security officers used pepper spray to quell the situation,” Lt. Ken Hubbs of the San Diego Police Department said.
The suspects, three men and one woman, then went to their vehicles, but they did not leave quietly.
“As they were driving out, one of the occupants of one of the vehicles displayed a pistol and fired a number of rounds,” Hubbs said.
Of the three employees injured, two were security officers and one was an assistant manager. Police said one man’s injury was serious. He was sent to Sharp Hospital. He is expected to survive.
“The safety of our guests and employees is our top priority, and we are fully cooperating with the detectives from the San Diego Police Department ,” Dave and Buster’s spokeswoman April Spearman said. “All of us at Dave & Buster’s are very grateful that our team members sustained only minor injuries in the incident last night, and we are keeping in close touch with them and their families.”
The suspects were driving a ’90s model green BMW with tinted windows and a black Honda Civic.

MD. State Trooper Killed On Vacation In N.C. www.privateofficer.com

MD. State Trooper Killed On Vacation In N.C. http://www.privateofficer.com

Hillsborough NC NOV 10 2008
Frederick Post.com

A Maryland State Police officer died Friday morning while vacationing in North Carolina.
Police said 1st Sgt. Tobin Triebel, 39, of New Market, was struck by a tree-trimming truck while jogging on a rural road in Hillsborough. He died at the University of North Carolina Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill.
Triebel, a 13-year veteran of the force, was a flight paramedic and supervisor of the training section at the department’s Aviation Headquarters in Baltimore. He spent most of his career at the aviation command’s Frederick hangar.
Triebel is survived by his wife, Susan, and two daughters, Hanna, 16 and Erika, 13.
Lt. Walter Kerr has known Triebel since Triebel joined the state police. Kerr is one of five officers who traveled to North Carolina on Friday after hearing about Triebel’s accident.
Kerr said Triebel always pushed people to do their best. The two studied together for a promotion exam earlier this year, and though Kerr got the promotion to lieutenant this summer, he said Triebel did the better job in challenging him.
Triebel organized an open house at the Frederick MSP hangar in 2005 to commemorate Sept. 11, 2001, and also celebrate the 35th anniversary of the aviation command. On a limited budget and with very little credit, Triebel put on the biggest and best open house Kerr can remember in his 20 years on the force, with more than 3,000 people in attendance, he said.
Kerr said he and the other officers got word about 10 p.m. Friday that Triebel was brain dead. The hospital kept him on life support until his organs could be donated Saturday, Kerr said.
“That says it all about Tobin,” Kerr said. “He helped people even in his death.”
Officers will bring Triebel’s cremated remains home today.
“We’ve lost a very valuable person, a person who loved his job and gave not only to his job but to the community more than you can imagine,” Kerr said. “It’s a very big loss to our unit.”
Capt. Dan Cornwell, assistant commander of the MSP’s aviation unit, said he first met Triebel in 1996 when he transferred into the unit.
“Tobin had a knack for coordinating and facilitating and making things happen,” Cornwell said. “He was very positive, a ‘glass is half-full’ kind of person.”
When Cornwell was reassigned to Aviation Headquarters last summer and tasked with building a team to ready the command for the future, Triebel stepped up and volunteered to work at the Baltimore headquarters even though it meant a longer commute for him, Cornwell said.
Though he was dedicated to his job, Triebel struck a good balance between work and personal time, finding time to travel with his family, work with his daughters’ soccer teams, and play with the Frederick Rugby Football Club.
“When he worked he worked hard, when he played he played hard, and he really enjoyed the time with his children and his wife and his off-duty friends,” Cornwell said.

DOE Security Adds Live-Fire Facility www.privateofficer.com

DOE Security Adds Live-Fire Facility http://www.privateofficer.com

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. NOV 10 2008
oakridger.com
Security police officers protecting vital national security and research facilities at the Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge Complex now have two new facilities to further enhance their training capabilities.
A ribbon-cutting and dedication ceremony was held last week at a new Tactical Training Facility and Live Fire Shoot House at the Oak Ridge Central Training Facility.
The facility is located on East Bear Creek Road, off state Highway 95 near the East Tennessee Technology Park, formerly known as the K-25 Site.
The facilities are managed by Wackenhut Services Inc.-Oak Ridge Team for Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge Office and the National Nuclear Security Administration’s Y-12 Site Office.
NNSA Y-12 Site Office Manager Ted Sherry said the two new facilities were the third and fourth training facilities constructed. They were designed to “create a sense of realism” for officers and others who train at the site, Sherry added.”Security doesn’t get the spotlight unless things go wrong,” said Brad Peterson, NNSA associate administrator for Defense Nuclear Security.
“It’s challenging to maintain the edge.”The thought of us failing in our security mission is unthinkable,” Peterson continued.
“One way to protect our facilities is to make them the most secure in the world.”The TTF is the first of its kind in the DOE complex.
The interior walls, doors and windows inside the $2 million training facility can be configured to simulate buildings security police officers currently protect — and can be used for various tactical training exercises, using realistic scenarios.
The facility also allows for vehicle response training.”Security is always about getting better,” Peterson said.
“This facility provides the tools to continue to challenge our guard force.”The Live Fire Shoot House replaces an existing facility that was built in 1986, and it enhances training realism in a live-fire environment. Both pistols and rifles can be used in the house, since the structure is constructed of ballistic steel — which will contain live rounds of ammunition. The room sizes, and the ability to move interior walls, provide the flexibility to create a variety of training scenarios allowing officers to make instantaneous decisions involving “shoot, don’t shoot” situations.
This new facility also has a roof, allowing training to be conducted in all weather conditions. The previous house was made from tires filled with sand and was limited in the variety of targets. The TTF was constructed by G&S Construction, a small business in Oak Ridge.
And the Live Fire Shoot House was constructed by Pangea Inc., yet another small business in Oak Ridge, at a cost of $1.39 million. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers provided construction management and oversight for both projects.WSI-OR employs about 900 security police officers who provide para-military protective services for the Y-12 National Security Complex, the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, ETTP, and the Federal Office Building Complex.

Alabama Pharmacist Charged In Theft Of Drugs www.privateofficer.com

Alabama Pharmacist Charged In Theft Of Drugs http://www.privateofficer.com

Foley AL. NOV 10 2008
A pharmacist has been charged with stealing thousands of prescription pills from Foley’s South Baldwin Regional Medical Center, where he worked.
Paul R. Lovelace, 56, of Fairhope was charged Thursday with first-degree theft of property. Lovelace is a pharmacist who has sometimes worked at several area drugstores, deputies said.
The Baldwin County Sher iff’s Office was contacted two weeks ago by administrators at the Foley hospital, said Capt. Steve Arthur, a Sheriff’s Office spokesman.
Over the course of a year, 8,940 prescription and nonprescription pills had disappeared from the Foley hospital’s pharmacy, Arthur said. The missing pills were of more than 35 varieties, including the commonly abused painkiller hydrocodone and the anti-anxiety drug alprazolam, known by the brand names Lortab and Xanax, Arthur said.
Investigators connected Lovelace to the pill thefts and obtained arrest and search warrants this week, he said.
Deputies arrived at Lovelace’s Gayfer Avenue apart ment at about 8:30 a.m. Thursday. They knocked, but Lovelace did not come to the door, Arthur said.
“The deputies began surveillance of the apartment. Mr. Lovelace left the apartment about 30 minutes later and got in his car,” Arthur said. The deputies followed him for a while on U.S. 98, then pulled him over and arrested him beside the road, Arthur said.
Investigators then searched Lovelace’s home, where they discovered about 300 pills, Arthur said.
First-degree theft of prop erty is a Class B felony, punishable by up to 20 years in prison. Arthur said that, as the investigation continues, additional charges may be filed.
“We know he formerly worked at Thomas Hospital and has done part-time work at several local pharmacies, so we are looking into whether thefts may have taken place in those places as well,” Arthur said.
Lovelace was taken to the Baldwin County Corrections Center on Thursday afternoon. He was released Thursday night on $7,500 bond, according to jail officials.

Authorities say that a security officer on duty at a local business was accosted by a group of men and tied up as they robbed the business.
Los Angeles County Sheriffs deputies was able to interrupt the early morning robbery Sunday at the Rancho Dominguez trucking company after the security officer was able to untie and free himself and called 911.
The robbers bound the security guard around 3:50 a.m. and attempted to steal trailers loaded with several million dollars’ worth of electronic equipment, he said.
Eight men were taken into custody by deputies and have been arrested in connection with the robbery at B&R Logistics on Reyes Avenue, just outside the Carson border, said Sgt. Brian Stover.
The security officer was able to provide details and some descriptions of the incident to dispatchers allowing responding units to know the situation better before they arrived on scene Stover said.
Deputies arrived and arrested five suspects at the location, he said. Three others, who managed to make off with electronics-filled trailers, were spotted a few miles away in the stolen rigs and arrested, Stover said.
The security officer received minor injuries in the robbery.

Border Patrol makes $6 million dollar pot bust www.privateofficer.com

Border Patrol makes $6 million dollar pot bust http://www.privateofficer.com

Laredo, Texas NOV 10 2008

NTL. ASSOC. PRIVATE OFFICERS
www.privateofficer.com– Border Patrol agents assigned to the Laredo North station disrupted an effort to smuggle 7,828 pounds of marijuana today.
“Our agents remain vigilant in employing all available resources to keep drug and alien smugglers from succeeding,” said Laredo Sector Chief Patrol Agent Carlos X. Carrillo.
Agents manning the checkpoint located on Interstate 35 north of Laredo conducted an immigration inspection of the driver of a tractor-trailer. A Border Patrol canine alerted agents to the trailer, indicating the possible presence of people or contraband.
The vehicle was referred for secondary inspection and examined by the Vehicle and Cargo Inspection System, which uses gamma rays to produce an image similar to an x-ray. The machine image showed several anomalies among a load of large cardboard boxes that were being transported in the cargo area.
Agents opened the sealed trailer and inspected the cargo. Many of the boxes contained cellophane-wrapped bundles mixed in with other cargo. Agents removed 264 bundles from the trailer. The bundles contained marijuana with a total weight of 7,828.2 pounds and an estimated street value of $6.2 million.
The driver, the truck and the marijuana were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
The driver faces possible felony drug smuggling charges. In addition to federal charges, the driver could also face a lifetime revocation of his Commercial Driver’s License under the Texas Hold ‘Em initiative.

Alarm response leads to arrest www.privateofficer.com

Alarm response leads to arrest http://www.privateofficer.com

Washington County Ore. NOV 10 2008
By: Bryan Hill

The Sonitrol Pacific security system alerted authorities to threatening activity outside an Oregon grade school leading to the arrest of one and warnings for two others November 9.
A press release said that Operator Minta Christopherson received an activation of the school’s audio sensors and heard banging noises she suspected were coming from outside the building. She dispatched Cascade Enforcement who is under contract with the school system for alarm response. Officers with Cascade responded to check on the school.
Moments later, Christopherson heard voices and also called the Washington County Sheriff’s Department.
Next, Christopherson received several more activations followed by a delivery driver disarming the system.
Sheriff’s deputies and Cascade Enforcement both arrived at the school about four minutes after receiving the call from Christopherson. Officers began to check the school but they didn’t immediately find the delivery driver, but saw three skateboarders in front of the building. Deputies questioned them and determined that the skateboarders were the source of the banging sounds.
While checking the skateborders information through the police computer system, deputies discovered that one of the skateboarders had an outstanding warrant and he was arrested, the other two received warnings for trespassing.
In the meantime, Cascade Enforcement officers were able to locate the delivery driver and confirmed that he had gone inside the school and disarmed the system and that there was no burglary or damage to the school.
Enforcement officers cleared the scene and the deputies transported their arrestee to the county detention center.
