School security officer found murdered www.privateofficer.com

School security officer found murdered http://www.privateofficer.com

Marianas Guam Nov 21 2008
A 45-year old security guard assigned to Marianas High School was found dead on campus early yesterday morning, prompting school authorities to cancel the classes for the day.
The victim, Efren Ballesteros, had been working for Global Security Agency for the past three years.
Department of Public Safety’s acting spokesman PO2 Jason T. Tarkong said in an interview that DPS Central received a call from the school about a dead person at 6:13 a.m. yesterday.
“Investigators who responded to the scene discovered Ballesteros’ bloodied body lying along the covered walkway right in front of the school building,” Tarkong said.
The victim had no pulse when police officers arrived.
According to Tarkong, the victim suffered several body injuries and blunt trauma, which could have caused his death.
Tarkong said investigators are looking at two possibly related crimes — homicide and burglary.
He said some of the classrooms on the second floor of a school building was burglarized although they had yet to check what items were lost.
“The two crimes could be related but investigation is still going on,” Tarkong said.
Investigators scrutinized the crime scene and the school’s perimeter fence for possible points of entry or traces that the perpetrators could have left behind.
Tarkong said classes at MHS will resume once investigators “clear” the area.
“We don’t want anybody to mess up with the investigation and destroy any evidence. This means classes at the school will be suspended until further notice,” he said.
Tarkong said the incident could have happened at dawn before the victim could finish his shift.
He said he had been with DPS for the past 17 years but this was the first time that an incident of this kind happened at MHS.
Lumi Bermudes, vice principal for administration and student services, said the victim was assigned to guard the school premises from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.
He would usually turned the lights off at 5:45 a.m. and unlock the gate.
“When a school staffer arrived, he was surprised because the gates were still locked and the lights were on, which was kind of unusual. When he came in, he saw the victim’s body,” Bermudez said.
She added that they barred the students from entering the school premises.
“We don’t want the students to enter the crime scene because we don’t want to jeopardize the investigation,” she said.
Their priority now, she added, is to ensure that their 1,300 students can return to their classes as soon as possible.
She said they will do their best to bring things back to normal as soon as possible.
Bermudez said the victim was one of the school’s new guards.
“I’ve seen him for about three to four months. He was a nice person, dedicated to his job and very positive,” she said.
“This is a very shocking incident for all of us, and we want the perpetrators to be caught as soon as possible,” she said.
Adelaida Abella, the victim’s wife, said she and her husband were supposed to go to church at 10 a.m. to have their five-month-old son’s christening scheduled.
She said when he didn’t show up, she called her husband’s employer and that’s when she learned what happened.
Abella said as of yesterday morning, her other son, a 12-year-old studying at Hopwood, was not yet aware that his father was dead.
She and her husband had been staying on Saipan since 1992, and she didn’t expect “something as tragic as this will happen to us.”
According to Frank Elecho, another Global Security Agency guard, the victim was a quiet man and didn’t quarrel with anyone.
“I’m still shocked this happened,” he said.
GSA supervisor Danny Punzalan said that they are already making arrangements with the insurance company to process the death benefits of the victim.
Police are urging members of the public with any information about this crime to call DPS at 664-9002 or the Crime Stoppers at 234-7272.

Boward County Fla. Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue extinguished a fire Wednesday night at Port Everglades that burned down a single-story office building but could have been much worse.
A security guard noticed flames shortly before 6:15 p.m. at the Targa Resources office building, 800 SE 28th St., and called 911, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said.
The building is near a tank farm with 58 storage tanks that hold about 800,000 gallons of propane, BSO said.
Firefighters brought the blaze under control in about 20 minutes, BSO said. The fire did not spread to the tanks.
The building was empty, and no one was hurt, BSO said.

TAMPA Fla. – If you’re up to no good at WestShore Plaza, beware: Mall security guards may chase you down in their new stand-up scooters.
WestShore Plaza recently purchased two T3 Motion scooters at $10,000 apiece and has trained a few guards in their use.
T3s look a bit like the better-known Segway Personal Transporters because riders stand while riding them, but they use different technology. T3s also have three wheels, while Segways have two.
The new T3s are cheaper to buy and operate than the guards’ previous vehicles, Ford Explorers, and much more nimble.
They also make security guards more approachable. Lately, scores of people have been approaching them to ask about the new transporters, said WestShore Plaza General Manager Jay Botsch.
The devices operate on battery power. They turn in place and can move at up to 25 mph. They also give guards a better view of mall parking lots because they stand on a platform eight inches above ground, Botsch said.
Some law enforcement agencies have also begun using the scooters, including the Dade City and Tarpon Springs police departments, as well as departments in Hollywood, Delray Beach and Okaloosa County in the Florida Panhandle

Police said that at around 1:00 p.m. they were called to the Wal-Mart on Wadsworth Blvd. and 2nd Avenue.

International credit card scam discovered in Louiville KY. www.privateofficer.com

International credit card scam discovered in Louiville KY. http://www.privateofficer.com

LOUISVILLE, KY Nov 21 2008 (WAVE) – This story might sound like it came from the popular crime show, “Law and Order.” An international credit card scheme involving an elusive international figure was discovered by chance by Louisville Metro Police. WAVE 3′s Lindsay English sorts out this bizarre crime and its unusual back story.
In October 2008, a federal grand jury indicted 23-year-old Jeffrey Berg, an Indiana University student, 23-year-old Phillip Levine of Dallas, Texas and a third man, Martin Ivach, whose age and address are still unknown. Ivach is considered an international fugitive and is wanted by Interpol, the world’s largest international police organization. The charges against the three include conspiracy to commit bank and wire fraud, aggravated identity theft and obstruction of justice.
David Huber, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Kentucky, says the men were indicted for stealing credit cards and other financial information, then racking up $100,000 in goods, services and money. Huber says Berg and Levine learned their scam from Ivach.
“Through the Internet, they got to know him and requested from him certain credit card numbers and he’d supply them with credit card numbers over the Internet. They’d pay him first, of course, through pay pal,” Huber says.
Huber also said LMPD first discovered Berg was involved in some type of ID theft when he was caught stealing license plates in a Louisville mall parking lot.
“Once they saw that, they got permission to search his car. They found credit cards, stolen credit cards and electronic devices to help you steal credit card numbers,” said Huber.
The Secret Service got involved, then finally, a grand jury investigation. But that was not the end of the story. Ivach is still a fugitive. Some reports claim he is a Canadian circus performer and is on the run for committing similar scams in other parts of the world, including Malaysia.
Huber says Ivach is associated with an Eastern European website called shadowcrew.com. The site was shut down by the Secret Service several years ago, however Huber says when it was running people could pay to have access to thousands of credit card numbers and bank accounts and could even pay to have someone hack into those accounts. In this case, Huber says it was Ivach and other people involved with shadowcrew.com that helped Levine and Berg pull off this scam.

NTL. ASSOC. PRIVATE OFFICERS
http://www.privateofficer.com/ A shoplifter was arrested Tuesday and authorities say that they found a cache of prescription pills in her purse.
Police say that the quantity was large enough to justify a drug trafficking charge in addition to the theft charges that she was already facing..
Loss prevention agents working at the Wal-Mart on U.S. 19 spotted a female at the self-checkout lane and watched as she failed to ring up several items but bagged them with her other items that she had paid for. Security said told a deputy that they saw Becky Teaford, 25 then try to leave the store with the unpaid merchandise a report shows.
Teaford told a deputy that she stole some of the items because she was having financial difficulties, but she couldn’t explain why she bought a car stereo, a report shows.
Following her arrest on a shoplifting charge, the deputy searched her purse and said he found a prescription pill bottle holding 60 30 mg oxycodone tablets, along with seven alprazolam tablets.
Teaford was additionally charged with trafficking in drugs, possession of a controlled substance and possession of paraphernalia.

An assets protection manager for Target, 4050 N. Harlem Ave., told police on Sept. 5 that a FedEx driver had been asked by Quinones, a Target shipping/receiving employee, to take an unmarked package from the building for her.
She allegedly told the driver she’d pick it up later.
The Target manager learned that Quinones and Miranda, a Target sales associate, had been taking merchandise from the sales floor, along with deliveries, donations and returns, and organizing the merchandise in the store’s receiving area.
The manger discovered a box containing 70 DVD movies valued at $1,047 was staged in the receiving area.

According to police reports, Quinones had staged five Apple iPODs and two boxes of Softline products valued at $1,099.95 on Sept. 18, which were picked up from Quinones by Miranda on Sept. 25.
Police said the Target manager followed Miranda to her home, where she gave the merchandise to an unidentified man.
On Oct. 25, Quinones allegedly selected 60 DVD movies and staged them with paper goods, diapers and bottled water, all valued at $1,586.83, on a flatbed cart.
Police said, a second unidentified man — driving an office products truck — picked the items up on Oct. 29.
The two women were interviewed by Target personnel on Nov. 4. Then they were transported for processing to the Norridge Police Department, where they both signed statements admitting to the thefts.
At a Nov. 5 hearing in Rolling Meadows, bond for each was set at $10,000. They are scheduled to appear at 9 a.m. Dec. 3 in Room 108 of the Rolling Meadows Court House.
• Alana Lozoya, 22, of 4822 W. Dakin St., Chicago, was arrested Nov. 7 at The Children’s Place, 4156 N. Harlem Ave., and charged with felony retail theft.

At a Nov. 8 hearing in Rolling Meadows, bond for Lozoya was set at $3,000. She is scheduled to appear at 10:30 a.m. Dec. 8 in Room 108 of the Rolling Meadows Court House.
• Diana Siddique, 30, and Sharall Flores, 20, both of 7109 W. Foster Ave., in Chicago, were arrested Nov. 8 at Kmart, 4201 N. Harlem Ave., and charged with retail theft. Store security agents told police they saw the two women conceal merchandise in their bags and in a baby stroller and leave the store without paying. They were escorted to the store’s loss-prevention office, where items valued at $85.40 were recovered from Siddique and items valued at $85.45 were recovered from Flores. Bond for each was set at $1,000. They are slated for Dec. 8 court appearances.
CREDIT CARD FRAUD
• Champaine Presley, 20, of 520 N. Leamington Ave., Chicago, was arrested Nov. 6 at Footlocker, 4136 N. Harlem Ave., and charged with receiving goods in violation of the Credit/Debit Card Act. Police said Presley, a store employee, used a debit card she took without permission from another employee’s jacket pocket to pay for $8.29 in food at Tom and Jerry’s, at Harlem Irving Plaza, on Nov. 4. Bond for Presley was set at $1,000. She is scheduled for a Dec. 16 court appearance.

Kentucky teacher indicted for having sex with student www.privateofficer.com

Kentucky teacher indicted for having sex with student http://www.privateofficer.com

SHEPHERDSVILLE, KY Nov 21 2008 (WAVE) – A Kentucky teacher was indicted Tuesday on charges that he had a sexual relationship with one of his students. The charges date back to 1993 when Larry Childress was a teacher at Hebron Middle School.
WAVE 3 was there when Kentucky State Police troopers arrived to take Childress into custody. He faces six felony charges of rape and sodomy. The victim says that she that it started when she was age 14 and continued for several years.
“(We) rely very, very, very heavily on the victim, alleged victim’s, statements and what she says happened then because after 15 years I would think that a lot of physical evidence is not there. That’s not to say there’s not physical evidence of other kind, but you lose a lot in years. Plus it’s hard to go back at talk to potential witnesses after 15 years,” said Trooper First Class Steve Pavey of the KSP Elizabethtown post.
Childress taught at Hebron Middle and coached at North Bullitt High School until 2006 before he left for a similar job in the Nelson County school district.

A man wanted in connection with a double murder in Decatur Township Indiana has been caught by federal marshals in California on Saturday.
In a press release, the U.S. Marshals service reported getting information that 56-year-old Michael Brown was at a San Diego hospital.
The San Diego Fugitive Task Force was dispatched to the Scripps Mercy Hospital, where hospital security officers helped them locate Brown in the hospital’s lobby area. He was taken into custody and booked into the San Diego County Jail, where he awaits extradition to Indiana.
Brown came to the attention of police after reporting finding two men dead in their Heartland Crossing home on Oct. 20.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police discovered the bodies of Milton Lindgren, 70, and Eric Hendricks, 73, in their home at 9160 Middlebury Way in the Decatur Township portion of Heartland Crossing.
According to police, Brown claimed he went to check on the two men after failing to contact them for several days. Brown told police after knocking on the door, he entered the residence through a back window, and called police after finding the bodies of the two men inside.
Investigators determined the two men had been beaten to death with a blunt object.
According to news reports, friends said the two elderly men were gay and had been harassed by someone who wrote derogatory remarks on their front door. The men had also had their phone and cable TV lines cut more than once in the past few months.
Investigators have previously said the murders did not appear to be hate-crime related, but have given no motive for the slayings.

Police, sheriffs, security join forces in shoplifting sting www.privateofficer.com

Police, sheriffs, security join forces in shoplifting sting http://www.privateofficer.com

KNOXVILLE TN Nov 21 2008
tennessean.com — Eight Austin-East Magnet High School football players have been arrested in a shoplifting ring, and it’s not known if they will still play in the playoffs this Friday against Knoxville Catholic.
“I am aware of the allegations,” said football coach Kwayu Graham. ” This is not a school issue, so I cannot comment on it. I have discussed it with the parents.”
Arrest reports describe a group of young men working together to steal from a store.According to the reports, they passed clothing to each other and blocked the view as they tucked items under their clothes.
But when they ran out the door of Marshalls Department Store in East Knoxville, officers were waiting.
Knoxville Police and the Knox County Sheriff’s Office worked together on the 3-day stakeout operation over the weekend.
All together, 33 people were arrested, 8 of them juveniles.
Law enforcement recovered $9,000 in stolen merchandise overall.”It’s something that we have to do not only for the public’s safety but for the businesses safety and the employees who work at the businesses as well,” said KPD Spokesman Darrell DeBusk.
Undercover officers watched inside and outside the store as security cameras rolled.
Marshalls was one of several stores deputies and police officers targeted this past weekend.”Some of these shops have been taking a big hit,” said DeBusk. “They’ve been victimized over and over and we’re trying to put a stop to that.”
18-year-old Dana Littlejohn, an offensive lineman, and 19-year-old Jared Neal, a running back, are charged with a Class E Felony, theft over $500, as well as evading arrest.
Six other football players face the same charges, in juvenile court.”It doesn’t matter if you are an adult or a juvenile,” said DeBusk. “We are going to effect an arrest and you will be charged.”
Police say shoplifting increases around the holidays.”We’re going to be watching. And it’s not going to be as easy on them as it has been in the past,” he said.
Littlejohn and Neal have separate bond arraignments in sessions court next month.
The other six suspects from Austin East have a hearing in juvenile court Dec. 23.

NTL. ASSOC. PRIVATE OFFICERS

http://www.privateofficer.com/— Fayetteville police are investigating what has seems to be an accidental shooting that left four people shot including an off duty security guard.
FPD said that the security guard has been charged after his gun went off in a bowling alley on Tuesday but that it looks like a case of poor judgement and bad gun handling.
David Michael Thomas, 25, of 4910 Cottonwood Drive, was charged with three counts of assault with a deadly weapon and one count of carrying a concealed weapon.
Thomas, a security guard, visited B & B Bowling Lanes, at 3003 Fort Bragg Road, late Tuesday and was trying to clear or unload his handgun when the gun went off, authorities said. Police are not sure why he was trying to do this inside the bowling alley.
The bullet hit Thomas in the hand and grazed the right arm of Rae Ann Cox, 25, authorities said. Bullet fragments then hit Robert Kusmierek, 45, in the back and Michael Dodson, 27, in the right thigh, authorities said.
Police said that all four were treated for minor wounds which were non- life threatening and that Thomas was later released pending a court date.

Security guard charged in burglary plot www.privateofficer.com

Security guard charged in burglary plot http://www.privateofficer.com

North Platte NE Nov 21 2008
The North Platte Telegraph
Three men and a female security guard at Menard’s combined to steal thousands of dollars worth of construction materials in what appears to be a robbery with inside help.
According to North Platte Police Lt. Rick Ryan, police officers responded to Menard’s Tuesday at approximately 2:45 p.m. after a store employee contacted police about a possible theft in progress.
Ryan said that store employees were provided with an anonymous tip that the robberies had been going on for some time.
“They had a description of who was doing it and they basically waited for them to show back up and when they did, they called us,” said Ryan.
Todd Warren, 41 of North Platte, Michael Leon (Sellers), 24, of Maxwell and Michael Castor, 40, of North Platte were all arrested for theft by deception, a Class 3 felony.
Lucille Johnston, 32, of North Platte was working at the store as a security guard and was also arrested for theft by deception for allegedly helping the men steal the materials by looking the other way.
Ryan said that Johnston was a security guard employed by a subcontractor and not technically a store employee and personally knew the men who are accused of stealing the materials.
She is alleged to have allowed the three men to load up a trailer full of construction materials valued at over $2,000 and allowing them to drive off the lot without paying.Police investigators believe that this activity had been going for some time and this foursome is responsible for several more thousands of dollars in lost materials.
It wasn’t until store employees received the tip before they realized that their security guard was allegedly one of the thieves.
All four were arraigned in Lincoln County Court Wednesday morning on the charges. Johnston is due back in court for a preliminary hearing Nov. 20 at 10:45 p.m.
Warren is due back in court Nov. 21 at 10:45 a.m. Leon is due back in court Nov. 20 at 11:15 a.m. and Castor will appear Nov. 20 at 10:45 a.m.
All four people face a Class 3 felony charge, which carries a possible maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and/or a $25,000 fine.
