http://www.privateofficer.com/— A man accused of pepper-spraying Publix employees after they tried to stop him from shoplifting was arrested Saturday, according to a report released by the Martin County Sheriff ‘s Office.
The report says Adrian Santiago Rivera, 18, of the 900 block of Northeast Flamingo Avenue, left the Publix in the 3300 block of Southeast U.S.1. with two bottles of cold medicine and did not pay for them.
When loss – prevention officers asked Rivera to step back inside the store, Rivera walked back in and began shouting at employees, the report says.
Rivera pushed one of the officers and tried to run outside but another officer blocked the door. Rivera then pepper sprayed the officer and several employees as he tried to flee.
Rivera was eventually subdued and taken to the Martin County Jail.
He was charged with two counts of simple battery as well as retail theft and is being held inlieu of $1,500 bond.
