Authorities responded to a robbery in progress and found a private security officer who had been severally injured by the robbers.
Police say that four suspects have been arrested on suspicion of beating the security officer while robbing a Hawthorne business of several pallets of electronics, police said Sunday.
The officers got the call of the crime in progress at around 4 a.m. Saturday in the 5400 block of West Rosecrans Avenue.
Officers arrived on scene and found that the men had beat the security officer, pistol whipped him and held him at gunpoint while they stole thousands of dollars of electronics.
Police said the robbers with handguns entered the business, overpowered and beat the 64-year-old man, and loaded the pallets into an awaiting bobtail truck.
Officers responding to a burglary alarm saw the 30-foot truck leaving the parking lot and gave chase.
The chase came to an end at Inglewood Avenue and Manhattan Beach Boulevard in Lawndale where two men were arrested.
Later Saturday and on Sunday, police served search warrants at locations in Inglewood, Los Angeles and Torrance.
Two more men were arrested, police said.
The names of those arrested have not yet been released but all are facing robbery, assault and kidnapping charges.
The security officer was treated at a hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.

http://www.privateofficer.com/ Police say they don’t know why a shoplifter tried to steal seven worthless gift cards from the Fargo Best Buy store last week.
Robert Ray Miller, 65, of Jamestown, N.D., was arrested for misdemeanor shoplifting about noon Thursday, Sgt. Jeff Skuza said.
The store’s loss prevention staff observed Miller take seven gift cards from a display, go into the restroom, remove the packaging from the cards and stick them in his shirt pocket, Skuza said.
The cards had no value, aside from the 10 cents apiece it cost Best Buy to make them, Skuza said.
Typically, a cashier must enter a dollar amount and swipe the gift card to put value on it.
“It’s not clear to us what his motivation was,” he said.
Because he was from out of town, Miller was taken to the Cass County Jail. He quickly posted $250 bail and was released by 1 p.m.

Shoplifter hides in swamp until captured http://www.privateofficer.com

FRAMINGHAM MA Dec 8 2008
dailynews
A Framingham man evaded arrest for about a half hour by hiding in a swamp yesterday after he ran when he saw an officer, police said.
Robert J. Taddeo, 40, apologized to officers for running, but also boasted that authorities only caught him with the help of a tracking dog, police spokesman Lt. Paul Shastany said.
Taddeo was walking near the Framingham junction around 1:30 a.m. when he saw Sgt. Lester Baker and he started running.
Baker saw Taddeo running, then chased him and called for backup.
Officers searched several backyards and called the state police to bring a search dog.
The cops had no idea why he ran, Shastany said.
Soon, a little after 2 a.m., the dog traced Taddeo to a swampy area near Cochituate Road where police arrested the bloody, mud-covered suspect. His face was scratched in several places from branches, Shastany said.
“When the officers arrested him, he had marijuana in a pipe in his possession,” Shastany said.
Taddeo also had a Framingham District Court warrant for his arrest, charging him with shoplifting.
Along with the warrant, Taddeo, of 63 Kellogg St., was charged with possession of marijuana and disorderly conduct.
He pleaded not guilty at his Framingham District Court arraignment yesterday and was released without bail. He is due back in court on Jan. 5 for a pretrial conference.

Pastor steals money to deposit in church accounts www.privateofficer.com

Pastor steals money to deposit in church accounts http://www.privateofficer.com

COBB COUNTY, Ga. Dec 8 2008
wsbtv.com Smyrna police said the pastor of a metro Atlanta church funneled money from an apartment complex where he worked during the week to his church’s account.
Police said all they did was follow the money. Security deposits meant to go to former tenants of a Smyrna apartment complex ended up in an unusual bank account.
“Where these security deposit refund checks were issued by the company and then the victim’s names were forged on the checks and they were deposited into an account for the Sanctuary Church of the Living God in Decatur,” said Lt. Tony Leonard with the Smyrna Police Department.
It turned out one of the property managers at Mission Galleria was Maurice Easley, who happens to be pastor of the aforementioned Sanctuary Church of the Living God.
Police said their investigation expanded, eventually totaling nearly $70,000 of deposits, rent payments, and fees meant for the apartment complex. Police said the money was instead directed to the church.
“What Mr. Easley was doing apparently was he was playing musical money with some of the checks. He was using some accounting fraud practices to cover his trail to what he was doing,” said Leonard.
An arrest warrant said the thefts started in 2006 and went through early 2008, when the apartment company did an audit.
Pastor Easley was not at the home listed as his address Monday and an administrator reached at the church would not comment.
Many of the victims, police said, probably still don’t know they are victims.
“Since many of these people that were supposed to be receiving these checks were no longer residents there and may not have been aware they were supposed to be receiving a security deposit refund, they weren’t aware the checks were missing,” said Leonard.
Easley bonded out of the Cobb County Jail on a $75,000 bond.

New radio program gives victim’s a voice www.privateofficer.com

New radio program gives victim’s a voice http://www.privateofficer.com

LOUISVILLE, KY Dec 8 2008

www.privateofficer.com A local radio station is working on a very unique radio program that would give a voice to the families of homicide victims.
A Louisville Community activist known as Christopher 2X is adding “The Voices of the Survivors” to his weekly radio show on B96.5.
The segment of the program would allow family members of victims of unsolved murders to talk about their loss in hopes of keeping the cases fresh in the minds of the public.
The program would also act as a catalyst to promote listeners to be an active part of the program by calling police with information that they might have regarding the particular crime.
On Sunday, Victoria Calloway spoke about the murder of her son, Jason, which has remained unsolved for the past 10 years.
“I’m hoping people will see this, hear me on the radio,” Calloway said. “Ten years is a long time, but it’s also a long time for people who know what happened.”
The segment is scheduled to air every other Sunday.
