Those funds came from donations from our management team because funds were not available yet from N.A.P.O. to support such a substantial offer.

Ten people have been arrested as a result of a 3-week undercover operation inside Club Isis, located at 9529 Ocean Highway in Pawleys Island, according to a news release from Sgt. Neil Johnson, public affairs officer with the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office.
A raid was conducted about 3 a.m. Saturday at the business by the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office, 15th Judicial Circuit Drug Enforcement Unit, the state Law Enforcement Division, the state Department of Revenue, and the state Highway Patrol.
Club Isis, owned by William Player and managed by Tony Ford, both of Pawleys Island, has been an establishment that has hosted several criminal incidents just over the last year, Johnson stated
From November 2007 to November 2008, there has been 51 incidents reported with the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office.
These incidents involved violent crimes, violation of drug laws, fights, and noise complaints, Johnson stated.
Due to the number of reported incidents, the 3-week undercover operation began on the inside of Club Isis.
During the operation, law enforcement officers witnessed illegal activities such as drug violations, firearms violations, alcohol violations, security violations, and fire code violations, Johnson stated.
“The raid early Saturday morning was based on the compiled information from previously reported incidents and the undercover operation in an attempt to stop the criminal activity and send a message that it will not be tolerated,” Johnson stated.
Those arrested and charged include: Cedrick Dwayne Baldwin, 27, Sumter, unlawful carrying of a pistol and violation of security officer registration; Robert Nelson, 30, Sumter, unlawful carrying of a pistol; Montea Darryl Myers, 24, Murrells Inlet, possession with the intent to distribute crack cocaine; Christopher Huggins Lewis, 27, Hemingway, possession of cocaine; Shawn Lamont Simmons, 35, Georgetown, simple possession of marijuana; Marquell Rashod Weaver, 20, Hemingway, simple possession of marijuana; Brian Keith Dennison, 37, Pawleys Island, violation of security officer registration; David Michael Syndab, 49, Pawleys Island, disorderly conduct; Richard Lee Green, 49, Pawleys Island, bench warrant for failure to appear in family court; Maurice Allen Scott, 39, Pawleys Island, warrant service for three counts of violation of check law.
Sheriff’s deputies also found abandoned drugs during the raid that have not been tied to the owner and/or owners, Johnson stated.
Other violations were made by SLED and the state Department of Revenue to the club, Johnson stated.

A Roslindale woman stole $162 in clothes from Sears, ran out of the Providence Highway store and then returned to hide before she was found and arrested Saturday morning, police said.
Marlene Berrios, 21, had gone into the store, “selected several items of clothing, went into the fitting room, put these items into a handbag, and then left,” said Lt. Robert Nedder.
Berrios reportedly ran by Old Navy, he said.
Officers found Berrios hiding in Sears’ warehouse area – across from its loss prevention office – and arrested her around 10:25 a.m., Nedder said. She was charged with shoplifting $100 or more by concealing merchandise.
Berrios, of 132 Fawndale Road, was arraigned in Dedham District Court yesterday. She is due back in court for a pretrial hearing Jan. 16.

www.privateofficer.com Several Richmond County educators are under investigation after being reprimanded for what school officials say was a sex scandal involving numerous teachers, coaches and the principal of an Augusta middle school.
Superintendent Dana Bedden says seven Spirit Creek Middle School faculty members have been implicated in a series of incidents which included daytime sexual encounters on school property using an inflatable mattress in the school’s public safety office.
The investigation found that the faculty was involved in some sort of sex party or swingers type open sex foray during and after school hours.
Right now, school officials say that no students were involved in any of the encounters, which came to light after a former teacher sent an e-mail about the allegations to school system leaders.
Denise Ogden resigned in November after her involvement in a love triangle that also cost former Principal Sharon McAlevy and former school board public safety officer Ronnie Collins their jobs.
Officials say that they are still investigating this situation but don’t believe any of the participants will face any type of criminal charges.

Students, parents and civil rights activists are demanding a probe of what they call overly aggressive policing at a Queens school, saying safety agents have created a “climate of fear.”
Agents at Hillcrest High School in Jamaica have allegedly beaten students, strip-searched them and routinely forced them to line up for at least an hour for security checks, protesters said Monday at the school.
“We came to Hillcrest because, in our view, there is an educational and civil rights emergency,” said Donna Lieberman, director of the New York Civil Liberties Union.
She said Principal Stephen Duch is “complicit” in ongoing problems and has “turned a blind eye” to the aggressive behavior of security agents, who are NYPD employees.
Hillcrest student Rohan Morgan, 16, filed a lawsuit against the city in August after four security agents allegedly handcuffed him and then severely beat him in the dean’s office.
“I was scared and didn’t know what to think,” Morgan said, recounting the incident at the rally.
School has been difficult since then, he said.
“I still have to look over my shoulder,” Morgan said, adding that agents “still mess” with him.
City Education Department officials declined to comment on the lawsuit. But spokeswoman Marge Feinberg said such allegations are taken seriously.
NYPD Deputy Commissioner Paul Browne said the July incident was sparked over a cell phone, which is banned in school. When agents tried to pull Morgan aside after his phone set off the metal detector, Morgan resisted, Browne said.
“The student became irate, and pushed and struck the agent,” Browne said. Morgan was taken to Long Island Jewish Hospital for psychiatric evaluation.
Trudy Morgan said her son came home with bruises all over his body and suffered a knee injury that required surgery.
“This is not the way they deserve to be treated,” she said.
Hillcrest graduate Kumar Heeralall, 21, said he was the victim of a similar assault in 2007.
“They took me in a room, handcuffed me and beat me up,” said Heeralall, who did not file a suit. “I thought I was the only one that it happened to.”
Hillcrest student Ashley Avery, 16, said other schools don’t have such stringent security.
“Not everyone is carrying a pocketknife,” she said.
But George Geller, who heads the school’s safety agents union, called the claims “outrageous.”
“Inevitably, there are going to be allegations from time to time,” Geller said. “What you heard here today were irresponsible calls to remove safety agents from schools.”

www.privateofficer.com Metro DC police and federal military police are investigating a shooting death of a security officer at the Walter Reed Medical Facility in Washington DC.
Police say that a security officer at the hospital was found shot and right now it looks as though the security guard shot and killed himself while on duty Tuesday afternoon, police said.
It happened just after noon at the 16th Street gate.
Police were notified by other security personnel of the shooting and emergency personnel responded to the scene at the guard shack inside the gated area.
He had a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, police said. He was prounced dead at the scene.
Police say that the security officer worked for a private agency who was under contract at the facility and was not military personnel. Police are not releasing the name of the victim at this time.
The 16th Street gate was closed while D.C. police investigated.

Man sentenced to 50 years in prison for security officer murder www.privateofficer.com
Man sentenced to 50 years in prison for security officer murder http://www.privateofficer.com
whittierdailynews.com – A judge sentenced a South Gate man to 50 years to life in prison for shooting to death a security guard who got into a fistfight with his friend.
Jose Javier Nunez was sentenced Tuesday for the Feb. 9, 2007, first-degree murder of Reyes Armando Garcia, 28.
“Justice prevailed,” said Deputy District Attorney Grace Rai, who prosecuted the case.
She said the 25-year-old Nunez will have to serve 50 years before he comes up for parole.
About 25 family and friends of Garcia attended the sentencing at Norwalk Superior Court. His mother, one of his sisters and one of his three children addressed the court.
“Mr. Nunez, you are the man who has taken our father from us forever … We will never be able to feel his hugs and kisses,” 10-year-old Mariah Garcia said. “God is our only connection to our father now.”
Garcia’s mother, Della Moreno, said she forgives Nunez.
“You need to prioritize, Jose. Ask God for forgiveness,” Moreno said.
Moreno said she also will pray for her grandchildren to forgive him and pray for Nunez to be the father his son will need.
Garcia’s sister, Della, told Nunez he took her only brother who was the only constant thing in her life.
“Not that you care,” she said. “All I can say is I hope God will let you feel every ounce of emotion you let my family (feel).”
Judge Dewey Falcone also ordered Nunez to pay a $1,000 restitution fine, a $20 court security fine and give a DNA sample. He agreed to the prosecution’s request that Nunez pay $6,985 to the victim restitution fund for the survivors’ mental health fee.
Falcone denied defense motions for a new trial and to reduce the verdict from first-degree murder to voluntary manslaughter.
The defense argued in the motion that the verdict was not supported by the evidence and the court erred in not giving the jury instructions on self-defense.
“In reviewing the evidence, the court is satisfied there is no evidence for self-defense,” Falcone said.
Falcone said although Nunez indicated fear, he admitted in court he didn’t think he would be killed. The judge also pointed out none of the guards had weapons and, at most, Garcia was involved in a fistfight with Nunez’s friend, Jesus Nava.
Nunez and four friends were turned away from the Ocean Sports Bar on Telegraph Road in Whittier for not meeting the dress code. The group drifted to a nearby parking lot and started to drink alcohol.
Reyes and the other guards who worked at the bar later told them to leave.
Nava mouthed off and swung at Garcia, who responded. The prosecution argued Garcia was winning the fight which angered Nunez, who grabbed a gun and shot four times.
Garcia was hit at least three times.

www.privateofficer.com University of California Davis police say that the head of security for the UC Davis Bookstore was taken to Sutter Davis Hospital with injuries to the face and jaw, and two men were arrested by the UC Davis Police Department after an alleged shoplifting incident during the lunch hour today, Tuesday.
UCDPD officers responded to a shoplifting and assault at the campus bookstore and said that the incident resulted in the temporary closing of the hallway in front of the bookstore’s main entrance, said bookstore manager Chuck Kratochvil. The bookstore remained open during the incident.
Bookstore security staff had observed the suspects allegedly shoplifting and confronted them when one attempted to leave, said UC Davis Police Department spokesman Lt. Matt Carmichael. Police said that one store security officer was punched in the face before and a witness intervened to help security staff detain the suspect.
Campus police arrested the two suspects, Louis Dydo and Jaime Devizcarra, both of Davis, on suspicion of felony robbery, and they have been booked into Yolo County Jail. One of the shoplifters, Devizcarra is a UC Davis student according to police.
The injured security officer received medical treatment and was later released.

Police arrest doctor for leaving baby in car http://www.privateofficer.com
local10.com — Dr. Pablo Guala, a South Florida cardiologist, covered his face as he walked out of jail Tuesday night.
Earlier in the day, the 37-year-old doctor was arrested and charged with one count of child neglect for leaving his 8-month-old baby boy in a locked BMW outside Mt. Sinai Medical Center.
According to a police report, a security guard saw the car and looked inside.
Guala came back to the car as paramedics were forcing their way inside the vehicle. Police said he told them he had gone to see a patient and it took longer than expected.
“The baby was very red, sweating profusely and vomited twice,” said Det. Juan Sanchez of the Miami Beach Police Department.
On Tuesday night, Mount Sinai Medical Center released the following statement: “We were alarmed at the situation. We are thankful that our security staff took swift action and that the child is OK.”
The child was turned over to his mother. The Department of Children and Families is investigating the incident.
