Crofton, Md. Dec 30 2008 – Late Sunday night, Anne Arundel police arrested a gym security guard posing as a police officer. Around 10:43 p.m. Sunday, police noticed two vehicles stopped in the left turn lane from southbound Route 3 onto southbound Route 424.
Stopping at the scene, they saw a man in a black t-shirt with “POLICE” written on it, a black hat with “POLICE” on it, a gold badge hanging around his neck and a police duty belt with a handgun, handcuffs and a baton hanging from it.
The man in police gear, later identified as 19-year-old Justin White of Baltimore, claimed to be an off-duty Baltimore County police officer and told the officers that he made a traffic stop when the other driver cut him off while speeding. When he was asked to produce police identification, he only had a security guard ID card from a gym.
It was determined that White was not a police officer and that the handgun he wore was a starter pistol. He was arrested and charged with impersonating a police officer.
