Huntsville police said that an officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop after the man failed to stop for Redstone Arsenal security but the driver fled.
Police reported that Justin Nicolow was spotted driving on the arsenal Wednesday morning when an officer attempted to pull him over. He refused, and the officer continued to follow him as he left arsenal property. Police said that the driver finally stopped off Zierdt Road.
“After he pulled over, his door fell open, and he fell out of the vehicle with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest,” said Huntsville Police Sgt. Mark Roberts.
Officers called medics and he was rushed to Huntsville hospital and Roberts said the man’s injuries are “possibly life-threatening, but he is expected to survive.”
Right now police are investigating what Nicolow was doing on the arsenal property and why he attempted to commit suicide. There is no word right now whether he will face any criminal charges.
Nicolow is a former baseball coach at Discovery Middle School in Madison.

boston.com — Two men were arrested Wednesday after they were accused of trying to rob an armored vehicle that was parked in front of a Haverhill plaza on Wednesday.
NewsCenter 5′s Jack Harper said that it happened at about 11 a.m. outside the Riversedge Plaza
One of the guards was leaving an ATM, walking back to his truck with a money bag when he was assaulted by an individual who had approached him. A struggle ensued. There was a shot fired,” Haverhill Police Department Deputy Chief Donald Thompson said.
“I heard the pop. That means he must have got in the car. I think it was a Honda that they were looking for. He got in the car, and the guard must have ran after him, got out into the street, fired at him, hit his license plate,” witness Bob Rowell said.
The men, Isaac Sosa, of Lawrence, and Christopher Delarosa, of Billerica, were soon arrested in New Hampshire. “Fortunately, there were two officers in the area working a construction detail. They arrived pretty quickly on the scene and were the first on the scene. Together with the civilian witnesses, they were able to determine the kind of vehicle,” Thompson said.

While moonlighting as a security guard, a veteran Indianapolis police officer used his access to a Westside elementary school to have trysts with a prostitute, prosecutors said.
James Ingalls, 40, faces charges of official misconduct and patronizing a prostitute in documents filed Tuesday in Marion Superior Court.
The criminal investigation began after the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department suspended him without pay in August amid an internal probe.
The charges are supported largely by a single witness — the 39-year-old prostitute, who said she and Ingalls engaged in sex about four times, according to a probable cause affidavit.
Each time, she told police, a uniformed Ingalls drove her in his fully marked IMPD cruiser to Wayne Township Schools’ Garden City Elementary, 4901 Rockville Road.
The encounters took place in the nurse’s office in November 2007 and January 2008, she told police, and each cost $40 to $50. The Indianapolis Star is not identifying the woman because she is not being charged with a crime.
“He was supposed to be protecting the public,” said Marion County Prosecutor Carl Brizzi, who scoffed at one reason the officer reportedly gave:
“(She) stated that Ingalls told her . . . even though he was a police officer, he was a man and had needs,” the affidavit says.
The school’s alarm keypad recorded early-morning visits by Ingalls in the months cited by the woman. She also described the tattoos and piercings Ingalls has, the affidavit says.
Attorney John Kautzman declined to comment on Ingalls’ behalf but said the 10-year veteran has arranged to turn himself in today.
A Wayne Township Schools spokesman said Ingalls was among about 60 officers who took occasional security shifts that included night rounds in which they checked schools. Ingalls worked his last shift July 10.
“Anytime there’s something that involves an employee that is not exemplary, it’s a concern,” said Tom Langdoc, director of school and community services.
IMPD spokesman Sgt. Paul Thompson said the allegations were disturbing. Ingalls also is accused of notifying the woman in advance about police prostitution sweeps.
The woman, now on parole after serving a sentence last year for cocaine possession, has two prostitution convictions and another for carjacking.
The affidavit doesn’t say whether she tipped off police to the officer’s activities. Since she’s a cooperating witness, Brizzi said, she won’t face charges.

COOKEVILLE TN. Jan 15 2009 — With store clerks chasing the vehicle, an alleged getaway driver hauling two shoplifters stomped on the gas pedal and sped out of a parking lot backwards, a maneuver designed to keep anyone from seeing the license plate, police said. But the three ended up getting arrested after throwing some of the loot away.
It happened Sunday afternoon at the Kohl’s store on West Jackson Street, says a report by Cookeville Police Officer Mitch Harrington.
Arrested in the case were the following:* Christopher Todd Montgomery, 25, of West Circle, Cookeville, charged with theft and criminal trespass.* Lori Susan Green, 28, of South Creek Road, Cookeville, charged with theft of property.* Rocky William Hunter, 28, of Hiram Brown Road, Cookeville, charged with theft.Kohl’s store clerks said they observed Montgomery and Green in the store stealing two GPS devices and two pairs of blue jeans, the total valued at $619.
The clerks attempted to stop the two as they left the store, but they ran and jumped into a gray Neon car, allegedly driven by Hunter, warrants say.
Harrington’s report says Hunter “took off backwards at a high speed in an attempt to elude security, almost striking the store employee.”Someone called police, and Harrington and Officer Ryan Acuff arrived and put out a description of the car.
“A few minutes later, Baxter Police Department notified us they had stopped the vehicle in Baxter after the suspects had thrown the GPS units out the window,” Harrington’s report says.Harrington went to Baxter and arrested Montgomery, Green, and Hunter. One of the stolen GPS units was found but had been “run over and destroyed,” Harrington said.Montgomery was charged with criminal trespass because he had been arrested for shoplifting before and had been banned from the store, Harrington said.
The three are scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 2.
In other recent cases:* Timothy Justin Reece, 29, of Ridgedale Drive, Cookeville, was charged with shoplifting on Jan. 7 after allegedly walking out of the Sears store on West Jackson without paying for three video games, the total valued at $59. Officer Brian Long worked the case.* Donna Kaye Key, 49, of Hutson Road, Sparta, was charged with shoplifting on Jan. 8 after allegedly attempting to steal an Olay hair color pack valued at $28 at the Kroger’s store on South Jefferson Avenue.Officer Craig Taylor filed a report.

Orlando police said that a security officer at an apartment complex responded to shots being fired and found a man who had been shot in his vehicle.
Police said this morning that they have identified the victim as Johnnie Jackson, 51.
Sgt. Barbara Jones of the Orlando Police Department said police found Jackson’s body at the Caribbean Key Apartments on Cason Cove Drive, near Mall at Millenia, sometime around 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Authorities said that a witness flagged down a security guard at the apartment complex who responded to the area and found Jackson inside of his pickup truck and notified police.
Orlando Fire Department officials responded to the apartment complex, where they pronounced Jackson dead, reports show
It appears that Jackson went to meet someone in the parking lot of the apartment complex,” Jones said.

Witnesses told police they saw a man fleeing the parking lot in a 90′s style Ford Mustang after the shooting.
According to a local news media source, the Florida Department of Corrections records show that Jackson, who lived in Citra, Fla., has spent numerous times in prison, between 1979 and 2005.
His latest incarceration began in 2002 when he was sentenced to three years for trafficking large amounts of cocaine while on probation for unrelated drug trafficking charges.
In the past, he’d been imprisoned for burglary, forgery and drug possession, prison records show.
Police are still trying to piece together the facts and the evidence and figure out if it was a drug deal gone bad or a robbery attempt and locate the vehicle seen leaving the area.
Jackson’s murder is the third in 2009.
Jackson’s murder is the third in 2009.
It is the second homicide in the city limits of Orlando. There has been one murder in unincorporated Orange County.
Last year was a record year for murders in the Orlando area: 123 killed in all of Orange County.

Rochester police arrest 1150 students in 2008 www.privateofficer.com

Rochester police arrest 1150 students in 2008 http://www.privateofficer.com
Rochester, N.Y. Jan 15 200913
wham.com– Police officers assigned to Rochester city schools arrest too many students, according to City Councilman Adam McFadden.
Superintendent Jean-Claude Brizard is also concerned about the arrest rate.Rochester police department data shows that police made 1,150 arrests at city high schools from January 1, 2008 to December 23, 2008. That’s a ratio of one arrest per 12 students enrolled at those schools.
The most common offense is simple assault, at 311 arrests. There were 256 disorderly conduct arrests, 163 for grand larceny, 57 for criminal mischief, and 41 for controlled substances. There were a handful of arrests for sex offenses, weapons, fraud, gambling, arson, and burglary. The data was requested by City Council and obtained by 13WHAM News.
“What are we arresting children for? Being kids?” said McFadden, chairman of the council’s public safety committee.McFadden said he supports arrests for serious offenses, but questions whether school officials are using officers for routine discipline.“When we talk about in school suspension and not wanting to suspend kids, we can’t arrest them either,” he said, referring the superintendent’s no-suspension policy.A spokesman for Brizard said in a statement, “We are looking at how we can better work with school staff so that, whenever a situation safely warrants it, it is handled appropriately by school staff, including school safety personnel, without the need for an arrest.”
The district denied 13WHAM’s request to observe the program and talk to a school resource officer on site. Despite Brizard’s concerns, the mayor just submitted legislation to City Council announcing the district has agreed to continue paying $1.1 million for the school resource officers.Police Chief David Moore defends the program and the arrests.
“There are times when you can simply have conversations with young people that may put them back on the right path, but unfortunately, there are times when they may have to be arrested,” Moore said. “I believe we have to hold our young people accountable.”McFadden said, “When I send my child to school, I don’t send them to be held accountable by police. I send them to be held accountable by the schools.”McFadden also said he supports officers in schools, but would like to discuss their role. McFadden said he hoped to talk about the issue at Monday night’s joint session of city council and the school board, but the topic of mayoral control dominated the meeting. It was not immediately clear if the number of arrests increased in 2008.
Moore believes there were more arrests. McFadden said the superintendent told him there was an increase in arrests.
The chief said he plans to add five school resource officers, and that could lead to more arrests.
School resource officers have been working inside city schools since 1999.

A hospital security guard was charged with attacking a co-worker while wearing a mask, then “coming to her rescue” after she allegedly ignored his romantic advances Sunday in the Hyde Park neighborhood.
Donquila Butler, 29, of the 4600 block of South Prairie Avenue, was charged with felony unlawful restraint at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to police.
Butler, who was employed as a security guard at the University of Chicago Hospitals [5841 S. Maryland Ave.], is expected to appear in Cook County Criminal Court, 2600 S. California Ave., for a bond hearing later Wednesday, police said.
On Sunday, Butler waved to a 19-year-old female co-worker whom he found romantically attractive. The woman, who works in the records department at the same hospital, ignored him as she had done numerous times in the past when he has tried to talk to her, police said. The wave brush-off enraged him and at 12:10 p.m.
Butler allegedly put on a ski mask and a hood and went to her work area. He allegedly grabbed her by the throat and said, “Shut the f— up before I kill you right here,” police said. Butler ran away when other hospital employees who were walking by saw the incident.
They called hospital security and, shortly afterward, he “responds to his own call” without the mask and hood but the woman identified him. Wentworth Area detectives are investigating.

COWETA COUNTY, Ga. January 15 2009

Staff Reporter
http://www.privateofficer.com/ – Two employees of the Coweta County sheriff’s department can now sit back and relax a little and not worry about the bills.
Crystal Grant surprised her husband, Anthony, when she called and met him for lunch this week to tell him they had won a $2.5 Millionaire Jumbo Bucks instant game prize.
Crystal, who works at the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office along with her husband, said she stopped at the Roadrunner Convenience Center on Farmer Industrial Boulevard in Newnan while on a lunch break and purchased the ticket.
She scratched it in the car.
“I called my husband and asked him to join me for lunch,” she said. “When he arrived, I held up the ticket. He had to drive the car at that point.”
The couple has worked together for the sheriff’s office which is in the metro Atlanta area for nearly two decades. Grant, 45, is the captain over the office’s criminal investigations unit and his wife is a citations and state court clerk.
When asked what they would do with their new found wealth, the couple said “Our first thought is to pay off all of our bills,” and then we’ll see Grant said.
The couple have been married for 23 years, and have two adult sons, a teenage daughter and two grandchildren.
