Georgia teacher arrested for child molestation www.privateofficer.com

A fifth grade teacher at Cleveland Elementary School has been removed from teaching in Fayette County schools after he was arrested Tuesday on one count of child molestation, according to school officials.

Melinda Berry Dreisbach, spokesperson for Fayette County schools, said Earl William “Bill” Howe “is no longer teaching in the school system and a substitute has already been assigned to take over the class.”She also said letters were being developed to send to school parents.

According to reports from the Fayetteville Police Department, Howe is accused of molesting a female fifth grader between January and May 2007.

Police said the alleged incident occurred after school hours while Howe was tutoring the student on school property when Howe “inappropriately touched the student,” according to a press release issued by police.

The student, who is now 13, was 11 at the time, and was a student at the school at the time of the alleged incident, according to police.

Police said the family moved from Fayette County “for unrelated reasons” in 2008, but “while attending counseling in another school district made the allegation.”Since then police have been working with counselors and other professionals as part of their investigation before making the arrest, according to reports.

“The student involved is no longer in the Fayette County school system,” said Dreisbach.

Howe faces one count felony child molestation.

He is currently being held on $44,000 bond, police said.
