OCALA Fla Jan 29 2009
A 24-year-old Ocala man who burglarized a store was arrested Wednesday after a foot chase and charged with commercial burglary and resisting without violence, according to an Ocala Police Department report.
A security officer told officials he was on duty at the Albertsons shopping plaza on State Road 40 when he saw a man walk by the supermarket and disappear near Buddies Home Furnishings. The security person said he heard a popping noise and saw a man “duck-walking” through the business. He called police.
One officer saw the burglar walking away from Buddies with items including a Nintendo Wii and PlayStation 3 in his hands.
The suspect ran, dropping some of the merchandise. As an officer was gaining on the suspect, officials say he turned around with something in his hand. The officer could not see what was in the man’s hands, so he hit the suspect with a Taser.
Officials say the man took off and hid in nearby bushes, then refused to show his hands and was tased by another officer. The man, later identified as Novel Williams, was then arrested and taken to the Marion County Jail.
