Elmira police arrested two men Thursday after receiving reports from Elmira College security officers who saw the suspects slashing tires in the area of W. 5th Street.
At approximately 1:17 a.m. Thursday, Elmira police officers were dispatched to the college following a report that Elmira College security officers chased two people who were slashing tires in the area.
College security saw the subjects and chased them into a house on W. 5th Street.
Elmira police located and arrested Philip Sambroski, 22, of Elmira, and Patrick J. O’Leary, 20, of Elmira and charged them with second-degree criminal mischief, a class D felony.
Officers found several vehicles in the area that had at least one tire with a puncture wound into the sidewall of the tire, causing the tire to be flat and damaged beyond repair. Sambroski and were scheduled to appear at 9 a.m. this morning in Elmira City Court.
The Elmira Police department has taken complaints from 39 different owners reporting damage to their tires.
