NTL. ASSOC. PRIVATE OFFICERS
http://www.privateofficer.com/ Police say a man must have had some inside information when he pulled off a robbery of a security guard in broad daylight.
Police said that a man flagged down a security officer at the Fair Grounds asking where “human resource” could be found. Police say the man then pulled a gun, told the security guard to open the trunk, took a suitcase, and fled.
Police say that the suitcase contained money and that the security guard was driving a female employee to the Gentilly race track’s kitchen Thursday morning.
Fair Grounds spokesman Lenny Vangilder says neither the security guard nor the woman was hurt.
Police believe that the man must have known that there was cash inside the trunk of the vehicle and that it was in a suitcase but are not saying anything else.
Police and racetrack officials refused to disclose the amount of money stolen. No suspects have been named.

Police arrested two teens on charges of receiving stolen property after a Macy’s security officer waiting for a bus allegedly overheard them boast about what they had done.
The security officer called police, who went to the bus stop at South Shore Plaza on Wednesday and arrested Maurice Thomas, 17, of Dorchester and a 16-year old Brockton girl.
The two teens were among a group of youths talking about numerous items they had just stolen from several stores at the mall, police said.
The six youths, who ranged in age from 15 to 17, then removed the stolen merchandise from several bags and divided it, police said.
Officers questioned the youths and determined that most of the merchandise, over $700 worth, came from the Hollister store. Hollister employees confirmed that Thomas, 17, and the Brockton girl were in the store.
Police said the Brockton girl had been in a fitting room where discarded security tags were found.
Police also recovered more than $300 in merchandise stolen from Victoria’s Secret, Pacific Sun and Forever 21.
The four other teens were released.

A would-be robber made off with nothing Thursday after he made the mistake of robbing an armored car worker on his way into the bank.
The 71-year-old technician had been sent to service an automated teller machine at the Wilmington Trust bank branch at Suburban Plaza, 550 Suburban Drive in Newark, about 7:05 a.m. Thursday, Newark Police Lt. Brian Henry said.
The Dunbar Armored Services employee had parked the company van by the employees’ entrance and was walking to the bank lobby when he was accosted by a masked man, armed with a shotgun, who jumped out from behind some bushes, police said.
“He tells the victim to lie down and takes the canvas bag he was carrying,” Henry said. “It contained nothing of value.”
After searching through the bag, the gunman left it behind and fled empty-handed.
The technician, who was not injured, called police.
The gunman was last seen running toward Elkton Road.
The thin-built suspect is described as about 5 feet 10 inches tall. He was wearing a ski mask and clothing that was all dark, Henry said.
Police are asking that anyone with information should call Detective Greg D’Elia at 366-7110, ext. 132, or Delaware Crime Stoppers at (800) TIP-3333.

A 17-year-old Allen High School boy was charged as an adult with trying to stab a man with a pair of scissors Thursday afternoon in front of the school, according to court records.
An Allentown police officer and a school security guard who were monitoring school dismissal saw what was happening and were able to stop David J. Gibbs of 131 S. Hall St. before he could injure the unidentified victim, who Assistant Chief Ron Manescu said vanished with the wave of students leaving the school at 3:06 p.m.
Police said Gibbs took several swipes with the scissors to the victim’s neck. The police officer said the incident happened in front of the school in the 100 block of N. 17th Street when Gibbs ran toward the victim with a pair of 5- to 6-inch scissors protruding between his fingers.
He took four to five punch-like thrusts to the victim’s neck and back with the point of the scissors sticking out from between his fingers, according to court documents.
Gibbs was taken down by the officer and security guard before the intended victim was injured. Gibbs admitted stealing the scissors from the school and putting them between his fingers because he ”thought there would a problem outside after school,” police said.

Convicted drug dealers sue hospital, security for “telling on them” http://www.privateofficer.com
PARIS ME Feb 7 2009 – A local couple sentenced last year for drug trafficking at their home are suing Stephens Memorial Hospital and a security guard, saying the disclosure of confidential information led to their convictions.
Dwayne Bonney, 48, and Debbie Bonney, 45, of Bisco Road, filed the suit in Oxford County Superior Court. It charges the hospital and the guard, referred to as “John Doe,” with violation of state confidentiality law and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, violation of privacy, and intentional and negligent infliction of emotional distress.
In February 2007, the Bonneys were attacked and severely beaten in their home by two masked intruders who demanded money and jewelry. The couple drove to the hospital for treatment. When police went to the residence to look for evidence left by the attackers, they discovered 95 pounds of marijuana, along with packaging and weighing materials. The Bonneys pleaded guilty in February 2008 to unlawful trafficking in marijuana and unlawful possession of diazepam, an anti-anxiety medication.
In March, Dwayne was ordered to serve 18 months of a five-year prison sentence with three years of probation; Debbie was sentenced to two years, all suspended, and two years of probation.Attorney Thomas Connolly, who represented the Bonneys in the criminal proceedings and is representing them in the civil suit, said a security guard at the hospital overheard the Bonneys discussing the assault with medical personnel and called police.
“I understand that he’s probably a contract worker, but he’s still working for (the hospital) at the time, and that’s the basis of the case,” Connolly said.He said the Bonneys did not want to file a report with the police and that the description of the assault to medical staff was considered confidential medical history.
He said state statutes and HIPAA mandate or permit the disclosure of information under some circumstances, such as gunshot wounds or child abuse, but that the hospital did not have to report the assault against the Bonneys.
According to an affidavit signed by Zane Loper of the Paris Police Department, police were initially informed that the Bonneys had been shot.
Connolly said he may use the erroneous report as an example of negligence.Police received a search warrant for the Bonneys’ home for evidence of the assault, and received a second warrant after finding evidence of marijuana trafficking. The two intruders were never apprehended.
The lawsuit seeks punitive damages, although Connolly said he is not requesting a specific amount. The Bonneys owe a combined total of $6,391.25 in fines and surcharges stemming from their conviction, according to court documents.
Connolly said Dwayne Bonney is scheduled for release in June.
Connolly said Dwayne Bonney is scheduled for release in June.
A representative from Stephens Memorial Hospital was unavailable for comment Friday afternoon.
