Sun Valley ID Feb 8 2009

http://www.privateofficer.com/
Sun Valley police officers are investigating the death of a man after a fight with his roommate, according to a police report.
About 11 p.m. Friday, Sun Valley police were called by Sun Valley Resort security for a fight between two roommates, Corey D. Drehmel and Jerome James, at the resort’s employee dorm, police said.
Police and security officers went to the roommates’ door, which was answered by Drehmel, who was identified later after refusing to give his name to a Sun Valley officer.
The officer looked into the room and saw James lying back down on the floor with blood coming from his nose. James did not have a pulse and his eyes were fixed and dilated, so the Sun Valley police officer began CPR.
An ambulance crew arrived and provided life support to James, transporting him to the St. Luke’s Wood River Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead a short while later. Sun Valley police arrested Drehmel for aggravated battery and booked him into the Blaine County Jail.
The investigation is continuing and the Blaine County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office is reviewing the case for additional charges.
Drehmel will be arraigned at 1:30 p.m. Monday in the Kramer Judicial Building.

Security finds escapee hiding in car www.privateofficer.com

MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. Feb 8 2009 — A Michigan judge says he’s learned a lesson about locking his car after a 16-year-old prisoner who escaped from a courthouse cell was found hiding in the vehicle’s trunk.
The teen had vanished Friday after appearing in juvenile court in Mount Clemens on a probation violation.
Sheriff’s deputies searched for about an hour until a security officer became suspicious when he saw a picture that had fallen to the ground outside the judge’s car.
A deputy checked the car and found the boy in the trunk.
Macomb County Circuit Judge Peter Maceroni says the teen likely used a button inside the unlocked car to open the trunk.
The judge says that from now on he will lock the car when he’s at the courthouse.

Atlantic City NJ Feb 8 2009
pressofatlanticcity.com
Two people who allegedly stole nearly $15,000 from soda vending machines on hotel guest floors in the Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort were arrested Friday night, police said.
Ray Klaus, district manager for Coca Cola beverages, came to police Jan. 20 to report dozens of thefts from the vending machines his company placed on the guest floors of the Taj Mahal, police said. The suspects stole from about 60 machines, probably using a master key to remove cash totaling nearly $15,000.
Detective Thomas Holton has contacted State Police and Vineland and Millville police, who have been investigating a possible theft ring in their areas, police said
Taj Mahal security retrieved the security surveillance videos, and a couple was seen in the hotel hallways. Philip Silvers, 28, and Crystal Studstill, 26, both of Millville, were identified, and State Police arrested them Friday night at Studstill’s home, department spokeswoman Sgt. Monica McMenamin said.
Both were charged with theft of more than $500, vandalism and conspiracy, and would be taken to the Atlantic County Justice Facility on $75,000 bail, McMenamin said.

Bomb joke lands man in jail www.privateofficer.com

Salt Lake City Utah Feb 8 2009
Airport police arrested a man today after he made a joke that he had a bomb while he was going through security at Salt Lake International Airport.
When TSA screeners asked Jack Roberson about his bag, Roberson said it was a bomb.
It turns out he was just packing a carpenter’s level, but police detained him for questioning.
“We can’t not take those comments seriously, and you don’t know if he is joking or if it was actually a threat,” said airport spokeswoman Barbara Gann.
Roberson was arrested and will face federal charges.

TX. Prison guard arrested in crackdown www.privateofficer.com

TX. Prison guard arrested in crackdown www.privateofficer.com

Jefferson County TX Feb 8 2009
KBMT.com KMT News has learned that a correctional officer for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice’s Stiles Unit in mid-Jefferson County was arrested earlier this week when he was caught trying to smuggle cell phones, marijuana and tobacco into the prison.
Department spokesperson Michelle Lyons says 24-year-old Eric J. Talmore was heading into the facility to begin his shift when a container of rice he brought in failed to pass security. On-duty guards then opened the rice to find three cell phones and a bag of marijuana buried inside.
They searched Talmore and found another six packages of tobacco taped to his waste and feet. Lyons said he was arrested on the spot and transported to the Jefferson County Jail.
Lyons said a second guard who was also reporting to work and witnessed the screening turned and left the premises in his personal vehicle. She said that guard has yet to return back to work.
KBMT’s news partner KXAN in Austin reports that TDCJ has been searching employees more closely after death row inmate Richard Tabler accused an officer of smuggling the cell phone that was discovered in his prison cell in October after he made a threatening call to state Sen. John Whitmire.
It was among some 2,800 calls records show were traced to the phone and prompted a lock down of the nation’s second-largest corrections system for weeks while officers combed 111 prisons for contraband.
More than 100 phones, 100 phone chargers and nearly 200 weapons were confiscated in the sweep. Other phones and phone components are still being discovered.
