MEMPHIS, TN Mar 16 2009 — Memphis police are investigating the city’s latest homicide. Police say a 46 year-old man is dead after a fight over a blasting stereo.
Police say the homicide happened Sunday, March 15, 2009 in the 900 block of Gaithers Park Lane around 8:00 p.m. The shooting happened at a complex called Fowlers Homes.
Investigators continue to look for the man that they say pulled the trigger. According to police this all started when people in a downstairs apartment were blasting their music and the people in the upstairs apartment didn’t like it. Police say in retaliation, the people in the upstairs apartment started to blast their music as well. After that, a verbal argument turned into a physical fight outside in the parking lot.
Investigators believe that guns weren’t involved until a woman told a man who was fighting, “He’s too big for you, go get your gun.” According to police, he got his gun and shot and killed the 46 year-old man that he was fighting with. The man was shot in the chest and died on the way to the hospital.
Police tell myEyewitnessNews.com that the accused shooter tried to fire his gun at someone else as well, but his gun didn’t go off. As all of this was happening, an off duty security guard that was armed started shooting at the accused gunman. Investigators say the accused shooter ran off when the security guard started shooting. They do not believe he was hit by the security guard’s gunfire.
Police say the security guard that shot at the accused gunman was not working at the time. They believe he lives at the complex and just happened to be armed.
Investigators say they know the accused shooter’s name.
