Sylvestre Reyes, Jr. has been the night security officer at Lake El Paso near Horizon City for 14 months. On Monday night, he got the scare of his life when some tried to kill him but shooting into his vehicle.
While patrolling a large private lakeside area alone someone popped off several rounds, one striking within inches of where Reyes was sitting his vehicle.
The bullet went through the windshield and through the passenger seat. That’s when Reyes says he laid on the seat, and the truck veered into a tree.
“It would have gone through right here.” Reyes showed the middle of his chest as he described where the bullet would have gone had someone been sitting in the passenger seat of the truck.
Reyes says he waited until the vehicles drove away and he called the Sheriff’s Department. “I was afraid but it comes with the territory,” he said.
Lake El Paso sits on about 6,000 acres of private property. Reyes thinks the person shooting could have been someone he’s had to kick off the property.
“We have signs posted, but still they want to come in. This is no accident no way.” Reyes said as a result of the shooting, they will be changing how they secure the property. He could not provide details on that information for safety reasons.
