Shoplifter rams security officer in golf cart www.privateofficer.com
palmbeachpostpost.com
A frenzied shoplifter on Sunday used a Jeep to ram a supermarket security guard who pursued him in a golf cart west of West Palm Beach, authorities said.
Matt Robert Lockwood, 30, after Palm Beach County Sheriff’s deputies tracked him to his Royal Palm Beach house and had to subdue him to the ground.
Deputies said that at about 8 p.m. Sunday, Lockwood, suspected of shoplifting, sprinted from Winn-Dixie at 4360 Okeechobee Blvd. with the golf-cart driving security guard in hot pursuit, according to his arrest affidavit.
As the security guard parked in front of Lockwood’s silver 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee, Lockwood threw the Jeep into gear and rammed the guard in the cart with such force that the cart rolled onto the Jeep’s windshield.
Lockwood reversed, dropping the cart to the ground as he crashed into another car, and then accelerated forward again, smashing into the cart once more before tearing out of the lot.
A witness wrote down Lockwood’s license plate number and deputies tracked him down and confronted him. As they wrestled Lockwood to the ground, Lockwood spat out a little white rock, later determined to be crack according to a deputy’s report.
Lockwood was booked into the county jail and faces two charges of felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, one count of possession of cocaine, one count of hit and run with injuries and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is currently being held without bail.
The security officer was seriously injured and is still hospitalized.

Theft ring targeted 7000 school children’s ID www.privateofficer.com
Members of the ring broke into about 50 schools across the U.S. island territory over the past two years to steal birth certificates and Social Security numbers to sell to the illegal immigrants, the FBI and other agencies announced at a news conference.
The victims were largely unaware their information had been stolen — and likely would not have learned of the thefts until they became adults and tried to buy something on credit, said assistant U.S. Attorney Julia Diaz Rex.
“A kid is going to have a perfect credit history,” Diaz said. “They reach 18, 20 years of age. They go buy a car and their credit is damaged.”
The authorities did not disclose how they uncovered the ring but said seven people have been arrested and one more is being sought. At least some of them were illegal immigrants from the Dominican Republic.
Investigators determined the birth certificates and Social Security numbers were sold as a package in a number of states including Texas, Alaska and California, for up to $250, authorities said.
Two suspects are accused of possessing nearly 6,000 birth certificates and Social Security cards. One was accused of intending to sell 40 Social Security cards for nearly $3,000, while another was seeking the same amount for 12 cards.
The suspects in custody were being held on charges that include aggravated identity theft and social security fraud and face up to 15 years in prison, said U.S. Attorney Rosa Emilia Rodriguez.
One suspect had been previously arrested for the kidnapping of a Dominican man last year that led to the shooting of a police officer during an FBI raid, said Luis Fraticelli, special FBI agent in charge of Puerto Rico.
It is unclear if other members of the ring are at large, and whether they received help from school officials, Rodriguez said.

Man arrested for fondling child at IKEA store www.privateofficer.com
The suspect, 27-year-old James Groesbeck of Belmont Avenue, was arrested after police say he grabbed the girl’s buttocks.
Investigators say it happened around 4:20 p.m. on Monday as the victim, a friend, and the victim’s mother were shopping at IKEA. They told police they noticed a man, later identified by police as Groesbeck, who seemed to be following them around the store.
The mother said she moved the girls around the store to avoid contact with Groesbeck.
The victim says he was shopping near the registers when Groesbeck walked past her and grabbed her buttocks. She alerted her mother, who was standing next to her.
Investigators say Groesbeck then asked the mother, “Do you want me to touch you, too?”
Police say the mom then alerted an IKEA sales associate, who called police. A store security officer tried to keep Groesbeck from leaving, but he allegedly pushed the officer out of the way, and fled the scene in a silver Honda. However, police say security was able to get the vehicle registration.
A warrant was issued, and Groesbeck was arrested.
Groesbeck was arraigned, and bail was set at $100,000. He was unable to post bail, and was sent to the Montgomery County Correction Facility until his preliminary hearing scheduled for April 7th.
Police want to know if there are more victims out there. Anyone with information is asked to call the Plymouth Township Police Detective Division at 610-279-1900

Police say that Pedro Zuniga, 36, is facing two counts each of first-degree assault and armed criminal action after he attacked a nightclub bouncer and security officer.
Police said that the incident occurred Monday at the Oasis on Southwest Boulevard. After being ejected from the establishment for unruly behavior, security said that he attempted to regain entry and was denied. At that point, Zuniga began fighting with a security officer and was pepper sprayed.
After waiting 10 minutes for the spray to wear off, Zuniga allegedly took after the bouncer and the security guard in a red-and-white Dodge pickup trying to run them over.
Zuniga was taken into custody and is being held on a bond release at the county jail.

Hospital security guards robbed www.privateofficer.com
Two security guards were robbed Tuesday morning as they were walking to a bank to make a deposit for a local hospital, police reported.
Police said that the two Allegheny General Hospital security guards were walking to a First National Bank branch in a building adjacent to the North Side hospital when they were approached by a black male at about 8:30 a.m., Pittsburgh police said.
“We’re assisting the police with their investigation,” hospital spokesman Dan Laurent said but released little information regarding the incident.
The suspect is described as black, about 160 pounds and likely in his 30s, police said. He was wearing a black bandanna over part of his face, a black hooded sweatshirt and red tennis shoes, investigators said.
Police did not say if the robber was armed and Laurent did not release how much money was taken in the robbery.

Teens charged after mall disturbance www.privateofficer.com
Brianna Allen, 17, and Savoun Cheap, 17, both of Framingham, were arrested after the 9:09 p.m. incident. Also arrested were a 15-year-old boy and a 14-year-old boy, police spokesman Lt. Brian Grassey said.
On Saturday, security told the group they had to leave the mall, but they refused.
They yelled and swore at the security guards, and people gathering to watch the incident nearly blocked the exit near the Bank of America, making it difficult to leave, Grassey said.
Several officers saw the group yelling at the security guards, and Allen grabbed one of the mall cops, the lieutenant said.
“She was immediately taken into custody,” said Grassey. “When (the other teens) saw her taken into custody, the other individuals joined in. It was tumultuous.”
During the struggle, Cheap and the two teenage boys assaulted one of the officers, who suffered a bruised shoulder. Eventually, all four were arrested, Grassey said.
Allen, of 58 Frederick St., was charged with assault and battery (on the security guard) and disorderly conduct.
Cheap, of 21 Highland St., the 15-year-old boy and the 14-year-old boy, were charged with assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
Cheap was also taken into the state Department of Youth Services custody because he violated his probation, Grassey said.
The 15- and 14-year-old boys were scheduled to be arraigned in Framingham Juvenile Court yesterday, but the results were not available.
Allen and Cheap are scheduled to be arraigned Thursday in Natick District Court.

Shoplifter tries to punch his way to freedom www.privateofficer.com
An alleged shoplifter is accused of punching a police officer in the face during an arrest at the suspect’s Fond du Lac home.
Fond du Lac police were called at 4:41 p.m. Sunday to Kohl’s Department Store, 913 W. Johnson St., for a report of two shoplifters, said Capt. Steve Klein.
One man, age 20, was taken into custody by store security, but the other man, age 21, fled before police arrived, Klein said.
Officers were able to identify the second man and learned there were two active warrants for his arrest. They went to his home on Forest Avenue and found the man hiding in a closet, Klein said.
“He continued to be uncooperative and wouldn’t show his hands,” Klein said. “He gave officers what they described as ‘a thousand-yard stare’ (looking right through them).”
Officers used a Taser to try to subdue the man, but it had no effect on him. The man fought with officers and punched an officer in the face, Klein said.
“The officer was not seriously injured,” Klein said.
With the help of additional officers, the man was arrested. He is being held in the Fond du Lac County Jail on the warrants and charges of battery to an officer, resisting arrest, retail theft and disorderly conduct, Klein said.
