MO. County employee arrested for theft www.privateofficer.com
branson news — On Thursday, Taney County Administrative Assistant Christy Teel, 28, was charged with a class C felony of stealing in connection with missing Taney County Animal Control funds.
Teel was arrested and taken into custody, but later was released on $5,000 bond, according to Taney County Sheriff Jimmie Russell.
On Friday morning, Taney County Commissioners had a closed meeting regarding personnel issues. Western Taney County Commissioner Jim Strafuss said according to the Sunshine Law, the commission has 72 hours to disclose the results of that meeting and said they will share the information at that time.
According to a report from the sheriff’s department, Strafuss on March 3 reported missing funds from the animal control deposits totaling $6,896. Strafuss requested that an investigation be conducted.
According to a report by Det. Roger Ellis with the sheriff’s department, during the investigation records recovered from the Taney County Animal Control facility and the Taney County Treasurer revealed discrepancies between the two office’s deposit slips.
Ellis reported that he found the majority of the deposit slips received by the county treasurer’s office from Teel lacked cash currency. Deposits from animal control show cash deposits with check deposits, which were reportedly hand-delivered to the commission office in sealed envelopes along with cash, checks, copies of receipts and deposit slips by animal control employees.
The sheriff’s department report went on to state that Teel’s First Home Savings checking account between Aug. 2, 2006, and Aug. 14, 2008, showed Teel had made approximately 26 cash deposits totaling $4,035. The checking account history further showed that Teel had many non-sufficient-fund charges from 2006-09, totaling approximately $2,851 in fees and $1,250 in return-item fees.
Statements to the detective by Teel allege that she never received deposit slips from animal control in the envelopes, the report stated.
“During the investigation, I discovered several animal control deposit slips in the county treasurer’s office filed with Christy Teel’s signature under animal control employee(s) signatures,” Ellis’ report stated.
Teel was put on paid administrative leave during the investigation.
“With the information currently available, we do not expect any additional charges,” Strafuss said.
However, he said anything is possible if new information became available.

Teen charged with creating disturbance at mall www.privateofficer.com
Jessica Morales, 18, of South Boston was arrested on the evening of April 3 after allegedly causing a disturbance at the South Shore Plaza while officers investigated a shoplifting report, Deputy Police Chief Russell Jenkins told the Forum.
Officers received a report from a Gap loss prevention officer that he had seen several women stealing from other stores while he was on a break.
The women were detained in front of Macy’s and questioned regarding their activities.
A purse, containing several items of merchandise that were possibly stolen, was unattended on the floor, and the owner was not present.
“While the officers continued to speak with the women, Morales began to get loud and yell profanities, drawing the attention of nearby shoppers,” Jenkins said. “Morales refused to calm down, and the officers attempted to place her under arrest. Morales dropped to the ground and held on to a bench in an effort to avoid being taken into custody. The officers ultimately restrained her and she was escorted off the mall.”
Morales was charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and three counts of assault and battery on a police officer.

Georgia men charged with counterfeit checks www.privateofficer.com
Two Atlanta area men were arrested earlier this month after police say they tried to pass counterfeit checks at businesses in Calhoun, Ga.
According to Calhoun Chief Garry Moss, arrested were John Robert Thomas, 28, of College Park, Ga. and Keith Lorenzo Greene, 35, of Jonesboro, Ga. Both men have been charged with approximately four hundred counts of forgery and identity theft.
Police say Thomas became loud and irate with officers and tried to flee by jumping into a vehicle driven by Greene. Officers were able to block their exit and take both suspects into custody. The two were arrested at the Prime Outlet Mall when officers discovered both men had counterfeit Georgia driver’s license, numerous counterfeit checks and documents.
Investigators later uncovered items from the suspect’s vehicle which linked them to similar crimes across Georgia. Several agencies have placed holds on the suspects and have charged both men with numerous counts of “Identity Theft” and “Forgery” based on evidence uncovered by Calhoun Police.
Both suspects remain in the Gordon County Jail awaiting bond and transport to other detention facilities throughout Georgia.

K-Mart security agent arrested for “Choking Out” teenager www.privateofficer.com
Police said surveillance video of the loss prevention office at the back of the store, 2801 Calumet Ave., showed Justin Remschneider putting the 15-year-old Hebron male in a choke-hold until he went limp, then laying him across several chairs. Remschneider already had handcuffed the teen and removed his glasses before the incident.
The boy’s mother told police she had ignored Remschneider’s directions to leave the office and told her daughter to call police when her son went unconscious.
However she kept her distance, she said, because Remschneider had identified himself as a police officer. He did not mention he was an off-duty Hebron reserve patrolman.
When Valparaiso police arrived, they had the teen checked out by paramedics. He was then charged with theft and resisting law enforcement and released to his mother.
He allegedly hid six fishing lures, worth $50, in his clothing.
Several hours later, after viewing the video and doing more interviews, including photographing the teen’s neck even though there were no marks, police requested an arrest warrant for Remschneider, 25, of Valparaiso, on a charge of misdemeanor battery.
According to his Facebook page, Remschneider has been a loss prevention officer since August 2005 and a Hebron reserve patrolman since January.

Alabama police investigate quadruple murder scene www.privateofficer.com
Details of the shooting are still sketchy, but officials have confirmed four people are dead.
Names of the victims have not been released.
The residence is on Lauderdale 73, near the Heritage Chase subdivision in the rural Lauderdale County community.
Travis Clemons, chief investigator for the sheriff’s office, said authorities are looking for Kevin Garner.

Garner and his wife, Tammy, are scheduled for a divorce hearing in Morgan County on Wednesday morning, based on courthouse records.
His wife’s green Subaru Legacy has been found burned in the Morgan County community of Somerville, authorities said. They added that the couple’s house was also burned overnight.
Garner had not been found as of 10:45 a.m., authorities said.
Anyone who knows the whereabouts of Garner is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 760-5757 or contact 911 operators.
Sheriff’s investigators were looking inside and outside the residence for evidence. Alabama Bureau of Investigations agents and officials with the U.S. Marshal’s office are also on the scene.
Emergency workers said the sheriff’s office was notified of the shooting just after 7:30 a.m.
Rogers High School Principal Tim Tubbs said the school has launched its precautionary procedures that prevents anyone from entering the school without an escort. He said the procedure would remain in place for the remainder of the school day.
Rogers houses the elementary and high schools. There is no known connections between the shooting and Rogers School.
“It’s typical protocol, and what this means is that all exterior doors will be locked and teachers will escort any students to wherever they need to go in the building,” Tubbs said.

Shoplifter nabbed stealing cart loads of merchandise www.privateofficer.com
One of four women suspected of shoplifting carts of merchandise from Wal-Mart Supercenters in Checotah and Muskogee was arrested Thursday.
Latia Smith, 24, was arrested and jailed after she visited the police station Thursday “trying to get a release on her vehicle,” said Investigator Lonnie Bemo.
Smith’s 1988 white Malibu was impounded Wednesday from in front of her house in the 600 Block of North 12th Street. It fit the description of the getaway car and still had the license tag covered, police said.
Smith had called police to report the car stolen. Police were executing a search warrant on the car, which was in the police garage at that time.
Smith’s purse was in the vehicle, along with a cart full of items stolen from the Wal-Mart Supercenter in Muskogee just hours before. Her ID was in the purse.
Wednesday, when she telephoned police, she said she had loaned the car to a sister.
The merchandise from the Checotah Supercenter was not in the car Wednesday. Items recovered from the Muskogee supercenter included coats, shoes, a Dell computer and wiper blades.
Smith was booked into the Muskogee County/City Detention Facility on counts of knowingly concealing stolen property, obstructing an officer, grand larceny and conspiring to commit a crime, Bemo said.
“She just admitted to little pieces of it,” Bemo said.
The other three suspects are on the run, Bemo said.
Police are waiting on video from the Checotah Supercenter. Police have video from the Muskogee store, he said.
They do not yet have the names of the suspects being sought, Bemo said. Their purses were not in the Malibu when it was impounded, he said.
Smith’s car remains in impound, police said.

Security officer aids woman hit by train www.privateofficer.com
A 49-year-old Falls woman suffered severe injuries to her buttocks and left hand after being grazed by a passing Amtrak train near Waste Management’s Penn Warner Club in Falls late Sunday, police said.
Linda Cuthbert, from Falls’ Levittown section, was found lying facedown between two railroad tracks shortly before 11 p.m. by a club security guard who, during a motor patrol, heard screaming coming from near the tracks, police said.
The woman was conscious and alert, investigators said, and rushed to Capital Health’s Fuld campus in Trenton. It didn’t appear she was struck by Amtrak’s high-speed Acela train, authorities said.
Hospital spokesman Don MacNeill said she was treated and transferred to Cooper University Hospital. She was listed in stable condition there.
Falls police Lt. Ron MacPherson said it appeared the woman was walking to her nearby home.
MacPherson on Monday urged people not to walk along or across train tracks.

Armed man tries running security officer down www.privateofficer.com
Redlands CA April 7 2009By: Rick McCann
Private Officer News Network
http://www.privateofficer.com/
A Redlands man tried several times early Sunday to run over a security officer with his truck is under arrest but police aren’t sure what caused the incident.
A passerby called Redlands police about 2 a.m. to report a reckless driver in a Ford F150 truck in the 1400 block of Brookside Avenue.
Officers arrived just as 26-year-old Gabriel Paul Espinoza was approaching the apartment complex’s guard with a sword, said city spokesman Carl Baker.
Espinoza apparently argued with the security officer and then jumped in his truck and tried to run him over twice, even driving down the sidewalk, after the guard walked away, Baker said. Police said that the security officer even had to jump in a bush to escape the truck.
Police took Espinoza into custody charging him with felony assault with a deadly weapon and several other charges.
The security officer escaped serious injury and stayed on the job after the incident was over.
