Nashville teacher arrested for producing child porn www.privateofficer.com
newschannel5.com – Metro police have arrested a Murfreesboro teacher at his home Tuesday on federal charges of producing child pornography.
Investigators said 52-year-old Louis J. Levine invited students to his house on Alton Road in west Nashville, where teenagers were given drugs, alcohol and engaged in sexual activities. They said Levine secretly taped the sexual activity. Hundreds of tapes were recovered at the home.
Incidents reportedly went back 30 years.
Levine was a first year science teacher for Murfreesboro City Schools, and placed on administrative leave April 1 after officials learned he was under investigation. He has since been suspended without pay, and his contract will not be renewed for a second year.
District director Marilyn Mathis said Levine went from school to school teaching science. Officials have begun proceedings to terminate his employment with the school system.
He also substituted for Metro Nashville Public Schools for several years. District officials said Levine substituted in their schools just 1 full day and 2 half days during the 2008-2009 school year. He has been removed from the substitute list.
For many years he worked at the Adventure Science Center, formerly the Cumberland Science Museum, as an animal expert and teacher, as well as at several youth camps.
“Lewis Levine was a former employee of the Adventure Science Center who worked here more than 10 years ago,” said center president Susan Duvenhage.
Police began investigating Levine on March 25 after a tip from a parent. Several apparent victims told officials about a building on Levine’s property called “Little House.” They said they would smoke marijuana, take ecstasy, drink alcohol and engage in sex in both the outbuilding and the main house.
An adult male who had visited the home during the late 1970s and early 1980s told police there was a peep hole into the outhouse. He also said Levine would provide pornographic movies for he and other boys to watch.
According to the complaint against Levine, one teenage boy told police that Levine touched him inappropriately on at least one occasion during the summer of 2007.
An adult male told police that Levine had touched him inappropriately when he was a teen in the mid 1980s.
Investigators executed a search warrant on the home on March 31. Inside a padlocked bedroom, they found a home video network of computers, monitors and what officials described as a “significant” amount of video cables running to other parts of the home.
About 400 videotapes and DVDs were found at the home depicting teenagers involved in sexual activity. Those who talked to police said they did not know they were being taped.
Officials said Levine faces federal charges for child pornography because the video equipment was manufactured in Japan. State charges are also expected.
“Crimes against children in violation of federal law are an absolute top priority for the Department of Justice,” said Ed Yarbrough, United States Attorney for the Middle District of Tennessee.
Police have asked anyone with information about inappropriate behavior between Levine and minors to call Metro’s Sex Crimes Unit at 862-7540. So far, victims have come forward from both Davidson and Williamson County.
“I want to thank the men and women assigned to the police department’s Sex Crimes Unit for their dedication and commitment to very difficult cases such as this one,” Chief Ronal Serpas said. “Matters involving minors are not easy to investigate.”
According to a police media release, Levine and his wife have been estranged for several years.

Oregon Security Officer Arrested For Burglaries www.privateofficer.com
Surveillance footage led to the arrest of a 52-year-old Wilsonville woman, who reportedly used her security clearance to access at least six businesses within two Griffith Business Park office buildings in the middle of the night to steal office equipment.
Beaverton Police arrested Cindy Simpson at her home in the 29000 block of Southwest Tami Loop on April 2 following an ongoing investigation into several February burglaries.
Simpson, who was employed with First Response Inc. at the time of the incidents, was lodged in Washington County Jail on five counts of second-degree burglary, one count of first-degree theft, two counts of second-degree theft and six counts of second-degree trespass.
She is no longer employed with the security agency.
In February, Beaverton Police started receiving complaints of theft and suspicious activity from different business suites located in the 4900 and 4915 buildings along Griffith Drive.
“The complaints ranged from suspicious circumstances of opened drawers and items being moved around, to minor thefts of petty cash and inexpensive items, as well as the theft of a laptop computer,” said Det. Sgt. James Shumway.
Detectives set up surveillance cameras in some of the targeted business suites and later obtained images from those surveillance cameras that ultimately led to the identification of Simpson as the suspect, he added.
Detectives contacted her at her home, where they questioned Simpson about the burglaries and performed a search.
The stolen laptop and a couple $300 pairs of telephone headsets were among the stolen items recovered by officials. The investigation also revealed items stolen from burglaries that went unreported.
“Simpson was cooperative with the investigation,” Shumway said.
She did not have a criminal history prior to these incidents.
The news of her arrest came as a shock to her employer. Simpson has served as a security officer for eight years.
Prior to joining the First Response team, she passed a rigorous background check by the agency and the state of Oregon — the same checks required of law enforcement officers prior to hiring.
Having received numerous awards during her time with First Response, including saving a life, “we are all taken back by this event,” said Derek Bliss, branch manager of First Response.
The security agency terminated Simpson from her post and took action to revoke her Private Security Certification, which will likely result in her State Private Security License being revoked as well, he said.
“We are sadden by this event, and in our 20 years of business, I have never encountered something like this which affected our staff and industry at this level,” Bliss said. “These charges send a message that illegal behavior will not be tolerated in this company or in our industry.
“This employee violated the public’s trust, and the officers who knew Cindy are hurt due to her actions.

ST. LOUIS COUNTY MO — A store employee who reported a shoplifter at the South County Center mall was attacked at work the next day in apparent retaliation, police said.
The father of the shoplifting suspect held the 20-year-old female worker down early Saturday afternoon while another woman punched and kicked her, St. Louis County police Major Terry Roberds said.
The victim declined medical treatment but suffered a cut lip and bruises and scrapes to her elbow and legs, according to the police report.
Police said it started Friday night when the employee spotted a girl, 17, taking a necklace from Claire’s, a jewelry boutique inside the mall. The suspect was caught. Because the teen had no previous criminal record, she received a criminal court summons, police said. The merchandise was recovered
The next day, a man came into the store, examined some of the goods and left. Then a woman stormed in, threw the employee to the floor and began punching her, police said.
The man, later identified by authorities as the shoplifting suspect’s father, returned and held the employee down as the assault continued. Other workers chased the woman as she ran from the store; the father allegedly held the beaten employee back as she also tried to pursue her attacker.
The father, 37, has been arrested and booked on suspicion of assault, but his name was withheld pending filing of formal charges. Roberds said the man did not make a statement to police.
The female attacker — believed to be about 20 and not related to the shoplifting suspect or her father — was still sought Thursday.
Portage County
Two men have been arrested and charged with stealing about $17,000 worth of merchandise from the WalMart store on S.R. 59 over several days.
Thomas C. Ingram Jr., 26, of 408 King St., Ravenna, and Tommy L. Faver, 33, who told police he is homeless, were arrested by the Portage County Sheriff’s Office and charged with theft, a fifth-degree felony. More charges may be pending.
Portage County Sheriff David Doak said store security had seen the two men over the past several days.
They allegedly were stealing video games, DVDs and other items, according to Doak.
Ingram was arrested Tuesday when store security alerted the sheriff’s office a suspect had returned.
A detective arriving at the store blocked a car driven by Ingram.
“He had approximately $1,300 worth of merchandise on him at the arrest,” Doak said.
Police were called again Wednesday morning when Faver was spotted at the store.
Faver took off on foot when police arrived, but was tracked down with the help of a police dog that found him hiding under a pine tree within a half mile of the store, Doak said.
Officers from Brady Lake and Ravenna assisted in the search, Doak said.
The two are expected be arraigned today.
Roanoke VA
A Patrick County man is behind bars after police say he tried to steal merchandise from a local store, assaulted an employee and led them on a foot pursuit for more than 30 minutes.
It happened on March 25 at the Wal-Mart in Stuart.
Police say 47 year-old Mark Ashburn from Ridgeway attempted to steal items from Wal-Mart and pulled out a knife when he was confronted by an employee.
Investigators say the associate backed off and called 911.
Police say when they finally caught up with Ashburn he was under the influence of amphetamines, Meth and Xanax.
He’s charged with shoplifting and assault.
