SC police officer fired after he Tasered brother
Brian Adams, 35, is charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature.
Adams had been a patrol officer since 2000 and was fired Wednesday because of his arrest, Forest Acres Police Chief Gene Sealy said.
He is accused of firing his department-issued X26 Taser at his brother, 38-year-old John Adams, hitting him with probes in the chest and upper abdomen area, the Sheriff’s Department incident report said.
John Adams fell to the floor at his brother’s home and after the electric shock ended, “yelled for his kids to run and get help,” the report said.
He was picking up his four children who were retrieving the family dog when his brother started cursing and yelling, according to the report.
His brother had asked him to talk outside, but he declined, telling him he was in a hurry to go home, the report said. The two live on the same street.
John Adams was shot with the probes after he tried knocking the Taser out of his brother’s hand, thinking it was a gun, the report said.
A sheriff’s deputy removed the probes from John Adams and he didn’t need medical help, according to the report.
Brian Adams smelled of alcohol, was “unstable on his feet” and admitted drinking beer that afternoon, the report said.
The Taser was seized as evidence after the 6:50 p.m. incident.
Brian Adams’ department-issued handgun was also taken at the request of Chief Sealy, the report said.
Sealy was not aware of Adams having any prior disciplinary record.

Myrtle Beach police were called to an Ocean Boulevard hotel after a 24-year-old man argued with security guards, who the man said threaten to use a Taser on him, according to a police report.
The man told police he had a confrontation with the 27-year-old security guard Tuesday and then just before 3 a.m. Wednesday the guard confronted him again and threatened to use the Taser on him, according to the report.
The guard told police on Tuesday he saw the man get into a pickup truck in front of the hotel, the Sea Crest at 803 S. Ocean Blvd., and go to the parking garage across the street, according to the report. The guard followed and a verbal argument occurred between the men then.
The next day, the guard said he and another guard saw a vehicle driving recklessly in the parking garage and confronted the driver, according to the report. The 24-year-old man then told the guard he was not driving and made verbal threats toward the guards.
The guard said he notified his dispatch to call police and the other guard pulled out his pepper spray and asked the man to stop, according to the report. The guard grabbed the man’s arm and the man swung at him before he ran away.
The guards chased the man and grabbed him when he tried to jump a fence but got his leg stuck on it, according to the report. One of the guards said the man hit him twice before he ran away.
Police evicted the man from the hotel, according to the report.
