CHICO CA. April 11 2009 — Two visitors to Enloe Medical Center were shot with Taser stun guns and arrested by Chico police, after a disturbance involving hospital security.
Robert F. Pomada, 60, of Bothell, Wash., and Matthew D. Barkley, 49, of Orland, were visiting the fourth floor of the hospital just after 8 a.m. Friday. Reportedly both were intoxicated and disturbing patients, when they were approached by hospital security.
According to a Chico police press release, when security officers asked the pair to leave, Pomada allegedly battered one of the Enloe officers.
Chico police were called and initially encountered Barkley. The press release said Barkley resisted when police attempted to detain him. The officers the shot him with a Taser and then took him into custody.
The police subsequently located Pomada in a hospital treatment room.
Pomada resisted when police tried to arrest him for battery on the security officer.
The press release said Pomada also was shot with a Taser before he was taken into custody.
Both men were booked into the Butte County Jail in Oroville and charged with resisting arrest. Pomada was also charged with battery on hospital grounds. Barkley was charged with being drunk in public.
