CLEVELAND OH April 22 2009 — Fairview Park police, during a traffic stop Monday, arrested a 38-year-old Cleveland man on a warrant accusing him of assaulting an off-duty Cleveland arson investigator who was working part-time as a security guard.
The incident happened Jan. 29 at the Giant Eagle at 3050 West 117th St.
The investigator was chasing Frank Gulino, who was suspected of shoplifting. The guard followed the suspect into the parking lot and tried to question him. The suspect got into his car and tried to run over the guard, prosecutor’s spokesman Ryan Miday said.
The guard jumped out of the way, but was hit in the hand by the car’s side-view mirror, Miday said. The suspect kept going.
Gulino, who lived on West 93rd Street, was indicted March 16 on felonious assault charges. He failed to appear in court March 30 and the arrest warrant was issued. He will be arraigned tomorrow.
Gulino has a lengthy criminal history of theft that began in 1991 and includes his pleading guilty Aug. 7 to attempted drug possession. He was sentenced by Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Timothy J. McGinty to a year of probation.
