stltoday.com — A 16-year-old female student was seriously injured and two school security officers, a teacher and a St. Louis city police officer were injured this afternoon during a fight and a subsequent scuffle at the Imagine College Preparatory High School, police, and fire officials said.
At one point as many as two dozen police cars swarmed the scene as officers subdued a group of screaming teens, students and adults gathering outside the school’s front doors.
The female student was stabbed in the stomach with a pencil during a fight with another girl at the charter school at 706 N. Jefferson Avenue, a fire official at the scene said. The victim was transported to a hospital with serious injuries following the 12:55 p.m. outburst, police said.
About an hour after the fight, a group of students gathered at the front doors to the school began to shout with each other and the police officers who were investigating. A St. Louis city police officer attempting to restrain another female student suffered a broken wrist, a fractured wrist and ligament damage to a knee when he fell in the parking lot as the girl escaped his grasp and ran away.
Teens watching the fracas unfolding cheered the girl as she ran and the fallen officer picked himself up and gathered his glasses.
The teen is wanted by police, who swarmed the corner of Washington Avenue and Jefferson after the girl ran around the corner of the school and into an awaiting green Pontiac Grand Am.
Two school security officers suffered minor injuries in a scuffle with the girl suspected of stabbing the student, police said. A teacher also suffered a minor injury, according to police.
The female student accused of stabbing the student and assaulting the security officers was arrested. Two other women were arrested outside the school. One is accused of assaulting a security officer, the other of assaulting another woman outside the school.
Two male teens who were detained for questioning were later released.
A fire official who was inside the school said the second-floor hallway where the fight took place was littered with papers.
Police have responded to multiple fights or disturbances at the school over the last six months. Seven criminal complaint reports have been written for incidents that happened at the school, police said.
