North Penn high school teacher arrested for sex with student www.privateofficer.com
A teacher from North Penn High School has been arrested for having inappropriate sexual relations with a student.
Authorities say math teacher Heather Lynne Zeo, 36, admitted to having an ongoing sexual relationship with one of her 11th grade students.
The student told police the relationship began in April and included sexual conversations on the phone and on the popular social networking Web site Facebook. Authorities say Zeo and the student engaged in sexual acts in her classroom and had sex with the student off school grounds.
Through further investigation, police said they discovered Zeo was allegedly involved in an inappropriate internet relationship with another student in the school. She denies those allegations.
Some students learning of the news were shocked, others weren’t.
“She has a Facebook page and is friends will all of her students on Facebook,” said student Carey Kwortnik. “Just things that I’ve heard, it doesn’t surprise me too much.”
On Facebook, Zeo describes herself as a proud parent and Christian who enjoys writing songs and teaching math.
Prosecutors say as a teacher she broke the law.
North Penn School District Released the following statement: “The North Penn School District is disappointed to hear about pending charges against a North Penn School District Employee. NPSD is cooperatively working with the Towamencin Township Police Department and the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office in relation to this matter. Student safety is a top priority of the North Penn School District. The individual was immediately suspended upon investigation. The individual has been a NPHS math teacher since 2001, and had the appropriate clearances per state regulations.”
Zeo, a mother of three, has been charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child and Corruption of Minors. She was released on bail Thursday afternoon and is back home with her family.
