MIDLAND TX June 4 2009 A 24-year-old security officer from Midland was killed early Wednesday after his truck rolled over on State Highway 191 just west of Midland, Department of Public Safety communications operator Gilbert Villarreal said.
Scott Mark Wanamaker, a security officer with the Transportation Security Administration, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash when his eastbound 2003 Ford Ranger rolled into the shoulder at 1:40 a.m. Wednesday.
According to a report from DPS Trooper Beau Martinez, Wanamaker began drifting into the center lane west of State Highway 158. He overcorrected and began rolling.
Wanamaker was not wearing a seatbelt, Villarreal said.
Troopers do not believe speed or alcohol was involved and possibly Wanamaker had fallen asleep at the wheel. No determination of that has been made.

Milwaukee WI June 3 2009
Two people were shot, one fatally, during an attempted armed robbery Wednesday afternoon at a check cashing business near N. 76th St. and W. Capitol Drive, officials said.
Both men who were shot are believed to have been trying to rob Check Into Cash, 3906 N. 76th St., at about 3:50 p.m., police said. The suspects were wearing masks.
The shots were fired by a security guard, police said.
“He felt that he was going to be shot or that someone else was going to be shot, so he took defensive action,” said Asst. Police Chief James Harpole.
Harpole said there were other people in the business at the time of the robbery. No one else was injured, he said.
The two suspects had forced the security guard to the ground at gunpoint, Harpole said, but at some point the guard was able to get up and shoot at them.
A 24-year-old suspect died outside the business. The wounded suspect, 22, turned up at a hospital shortly after the robbery, Harpole said.
The preliminary investigation suggests the security guard, who is in his 20s, was properly licensed to carry a gun on the job, Harpole said.

MOBILE, Ala. June 4 2009 — A Mobile police officer was shot and killed Tuesday night while working private security at an apartment complex, authorities said this morning.
Officer Brandon Sigler, 26, was found with a gunshot wound about 11:30 p.m. at Tyler Ridge Apartments in the 7700 block of Thomas Road, police said. Sigler was taken to Providence Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Richard Joseph Hollingsworth, 18, has been arrested and charged with murder, authorities said. During a news conference this morning, police said Hollingsworth was the shooter.
Police said Sigler was working as a courtesy officer at the complex and had broken up a fight between two women before he was shot.
About 30 minutes after the shooting, a patrol officer got a description of a vehicle possibly involved in the incident and spotted a vehicle matching that description, according to the news release.
The driver, who police later identified as Hollingsworth, led police officers on a short chase before crashing the vehicle at McFarland and Dawes roads, according to the news release.
Hollingsworth was arrested and a woman in the vehicle was taken by helicopter to University of South Alabama Medical Center to be treated for injuries, police said. The woman will be questioned by police after she is released, authorities said.
Police said a third possible suspect was apprehended near Hamilton Creek. Police have not released the identities of the two other people involved.
Sigler joined the Mobile Police Department after graduating from the academy a year ago, police said. He was engaged to be married later this year.
Police said the incident is still under investigation

LAKEWOOD, Wash. June 4 2009 – Lakewood Police say they have arrested all of the ‘main players’ in the deadly shooting and robbery at a Wal-Mart store on Tuesday, and that the robbery was an inside job.
Lakewood police spokesperson Lt. Heidi Hoffman says detectives believe they have arrested the two men seen in surveillance video leaving the store Tuesday. In addition, two other people allegedly involved in the planning are in custody.
Hoffman says one of those, a woman, is a Wal-Mart employee who was at the store during the shooting.
A single bullet to the head at point-blank range killed armored car guard Kurt Husted and wounded a customer holding his child during the robbery. Two suspects then grabbed a bag of money and ran out to a waiting getaway car that a third person was driving.
Hoffman said, based on the surveillance video, that the suspects had no intention of taking the money without violence.
“I did not see hesitation. I did not see negotiation. I saw this poor man executed,” said Hoffman. “There was only one shot fired. They came in. They timed it. They knew exactly what they were doing. They didn’t hesitate and then they got out of there.”
Police have not officially released the names, but here are three people they arrested on murder, robbery and assault charges:
Odies Delandus, 41
Tonie Marie Williams-Irby, 42
Calvin Finley, 37
Delandus and Williams-Irby were arrested late Tuesday night. KING 5 News is told Williams-Irby is the Wal-Mart employee. Finley, arrested Wednesday morning during a traffic stop in Fife, is believed to be one of the men who entered the store.
Tacoma Police SWAT officers hold a man at gunpoint on Wednesday, June 3, 2009. The man is a suspect in a deadly shooting and robbery at a Lakewood, Wash. Wal-Mart.
A 20-year-old man was also arrested by a Tacoma Police SWAT team at an apartment complex Wednesday afternoon. Several blocks were cordoned off to keep the public safe.
Hoffman says all the suspects, including those who were just involved in the planning, may face first-degree murder charges.
Police have recovered about two-thirds of the stolen money, but Hoffman would not say how much was taken in the first place.
“It certainly was not worth taking a man’s life, the amount of money they got,” said Hoffman.
A gun was also recovered and will be tested to determine whether it was the one that shot Husted.
Police say more arrests could be made.
The shooting happened about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday just outside a branch of Anchor Bank located inside the store.
Another man, Wilbert Pina, was hit in the shoulder by the same bullet that killed Husted. He was holding his son at the time. He was treated at the hospital and released. The child was not hurt.

Detroit MI June 4 2009
A man armed with a handgun was arrested after stealing condoms from Wal-Mart, 29555 Plymouth Road, at about 10 a.m. Monday
Loss prevention officers at Wal-Mart watched the man rip open a box of condoms, then stuff them into his pocket. After he left the store, security ordered him to stop. He denied having the stolen items in his possession, but said, “I have my gun.” He placed his hand near a handgun on his right hip. The guard pushed the suspect’s hand away from the handgun; the suspect got into a white Chevy Tahoe and left.
Responding police officers found the man driving east on Plymouth Road, going through Middlebelt. He made an improper turn onto Inkster, then stopped on Inkster just south of the intersection. The suspect complied with police orders to exit the car, keep his hands in the air and walk backward to one of the officers. Police found a 9-millimeter Smith & Wesson handgun on his right hip. The Redford man was arrested on the robbery charge.

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. June 4 2009 — Police say a 12-year-old Spotsylvania County boy died and another boy was critically injured after lightning struck as they were playing catch.
The incident occurred Wednesday on a ballfield south of Fredericksburg as severe storms battered parts of Virginia, flooding roads and knocking out power.
Spotsylvania County sheriff’s 1st Sgt. Liz Scott says umpires had halted a baseball game because of the weather and ordered participants off the field. But Chelal Matos and an 11-year-old teammate remained and were playing catch under parents’ supervision.
Scott says lightning hit Matos and the charge transferred to the other boy.
She says the 11-year-old, who wasn’t identified, was in critical condition at a Richmond hospital.

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. June 4 2009(AP) — A North Carolina husband used the online advertising service Craigslist to enlist a man to rape his wife in the couple’s home, police said Wednesday.
The 25-year-old Kannapolis man faces first-degree rape and other charges. The Associated Press, which generally does not identify victims of sexual assault, is not naming the man to avoid identifying his wife.
His wife called 911 early Sunday morning and said a man with a knife raped her in the bedroom of their home in Kannapolis, about 25 miles northeast of Charlotte, authorities said. Her husband was in the room, police said. Their two young children were also home, but were unaware of what was happening, authorities said.
The husband sought someone in the ads to come to his home and have sex with his wife using “scare tactics,” police said. It was without her knowledge or consent, police said.
Authorities are still investigating the identity of the man who attacked the woman and it wasn’t known if the husband paid him to do it. The woman was not seriously injured, but was treated at a hospital and released.
Investigators turned their suspicions to the husband after his statement didn’t add up and because there were no signs the attacker broke into the home. The husband was jailed Wednesday on $200,000 bond.
“We share the public’s horror that such a crime was committed, and our heart goes out to the victim,” said Craigslist spokeswoman Susan MacTavish Best.
The online classified site had been criticized for its “erotic services” section, which Craigslist agreed to do away with last month after a Boston medical student, deemed “the Craigslist killer,” was charged with killing a woman he met on the site.
A Kansas City, Mo., man was sentenced last month to 29 years in prison for raping a woman who advertised in the section
