Delaware State Police have arrested a Sussex Central High School teacher for having inappropriate contact with a student.
On Wednesday morning, police arrested John George Rainis, 24, of Villa Circle, Delaware.
According to police, Rainis, an Indian River School District Teacher who is an athletic trainer and full time substitute teacher, had an inappropriate relationship with a female student at the high school in Millsboro, Sussex County.
During an investigation, State Police began questioning a female student about the relationship and it was uncovered that while the female student was receiving treatment for an athletic injury, she was touched inappropriately.
Apparently, when trying to stop Rainis’ sexual advances, the victim was told that he was the only person who could clear her to participate in her sport.
Police have reason to believe that inappropriate behavior of a similar nature occurred several times in the high school training room during the month of March 2009.
Rainis has been charged with one count of sexual extortion and one count of unlawful sexual contact, he has been committed to the Department of Correction
