UGA student charged in felony theft incident www.privateofficer.com
A University student was arrested and charged with felony theft by shoplifting after a worker at a downtown clothing store suspected her and another man of taking almost $700 in items.
Azadeh Shadea Sigari, an 18-year-old freshman from Marietta, was arrested following a call made to Athens-Clarke County police from a worker at Heery’s Clothes Closet.
According to the report:
The witness said a young couple came into the store June 11 and took multiple items amounting to $681. The items included a $325 orange Diane von Furstenberg dress, $98 cream Joie long-sleeved shirt, $158 white BCBG dress and $100 Language tube top.
The witness did not call the police when the crime initially occurred, but the couple returned the next day.
The responding officers walked around downtown to notify retail businesses about the shoplifting suspects and about an hour later saw a couple matching the description given by the Heery’s worker.
Two witnesses from Heery’s then identified Sigari and Travis Ryan Moon as the couple who allegedly stole the merchandise.
The witnesses said Sigari and Moon “took items into the dressing room and when they exited [the witnesses] did not see the items. After the couple left the employees found where the tags had been removed from the clothes and hidden by some shoes.”
The arresting officer wrote he will follow up with Heery’s to secure surveillance video of the incident.
Sigari refused to comment when contacted by The Red & Black.
According to Athens-Clarke County Magistrate Court records, Sigari has also been arrested twice for underage consumption.
