Three charged with armed robbery after pulling gun on security www.privateofficer.com
SPOKANE, Wash. June 25 2009- Three teenagers are in custody in Kootenai County in connection with an armed robbery at a WinCo grocery store in North Spokane and in connection with a home burglary on 32nd Ave. on Spokane’s South Hill.
Spokane police say just before 7 p.m. Tuesday, 19-year-old Joseph Johnston went into the WinCo in the 9200 block of N. Nevada and stole two cases of beer. When a security guard approached Johnson, he reportedly pulled out pistol and pointed it at the guard and several customers. The security guard did not pursue Johnston he saw he was armed.
Johnston then left the store and got into a 1990 Buick Century sedan, driven by a 17-year-old girl. The car was spray-painted black with a broken headlight and Idaho license plate IJ50739. A customer in the parking lot was able to get a detailed description of the gunman and the car.
Police then found that the suspect and vehicle descriptions matched the description of a suspect and car from a residential burglary on the South Hill, where firearms were taken. The burglary occurred only a couple of hours before the WinCo robbery. Police say the weapons belonged to the father of the 17-year-old girl.
After the robbery, the teens reportedly drove to Coeur D’Alene. Spokane Police say an informant gave them the suspects’ identities and location. Kootenai County Sheriff’s deputies tracked down Johnston, the girl, and 18-year-old David Patterson at the Cd’A Casino.
All three are under arrest in Kootenai County. They are each facing multiple charges and waiting to learn more about possible extradition to Spokane.
