9news.com – The bomb squad detonated a package near the west side doors of Denver International Airport on Thursday afternoon after the unattended bag prompted the closure of several roadways leading to the airport.
An airport source tells 9NEWS K-9 units responded to the area to investigate the bag.
9NEWS spotted crews cleaning up the remains of the bag after it was detonated. Denver Police says the package was an ammo canister full of shells.
A 9NEWS photojournalist took video of what appeared to be an ammo box surrounded by gun shells.
No evacuations were made during the investigation, but all roadways on the west side of Jeppesen Terminal were temporarily closed.
Just before 2:30 p.m., the airport announced on its Web site that the roads on the west side of the terminal had been reopened.
The ticket counters that were closed are also back open.
Police say the ammo box could have been from a hunter who decided not to try and take it on a plane.
