Lee County Fl July 16 2009
The Lee County School District is working with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office to make their investigation as smooth as possible, said Joe Donzelli, spokesman for the district.
“Once we were made aware of the situation by the sheriff’s office, we told them we would help them in any way we could,” Donzelli said. “We’ve worked hard to form a relationship with local law enforcement.”
He believes the investigation began on Tuesday.
Donzelli said the well-being of the students in the case is the priority right now. He’s not sure if the case involves other students.
“We’re encouraging families out there who may have any information on (McNabb) to come forward,” Donzelli said.
McNabb has been teaching with the district since 2002.
He is currently on summer leave, so the district can’t suspend him, Donzelli said. The district must determine exactly what the situation is before taking action, he said.
“If these charges are still hanging over (McNabb) when teachers report back to work, he’ll be suspended,” Donzelli said.
He noted that the only way that would not happen is if the sheriff’s office found him not to be guilty of the charges.
“Otherwise he’s not going to be coming back to a classroom here or probably anywhere else anytime soon,” Donzelli said.
Those with information may contact Tropic Isles Elementary School at 239-995-4704 or the Lee County Sheriff’s Office at 239-477-1000.
