WOODBRIDGE NJ July 16 2009— An Elmhurst, N.Y., man was charged with robbery Saturday after punching a security guard at Woodbridge Center, police said.
Cruz Antonio Narvaez, 53, was arrested about 1:50 p.m. after police responded to the Gap for a reported assault. A security guard told police he saw Narvaez allegedly hide a pair of jeans and enter the fitting room.
As Narvaez tried to leave the store, the guard confronted Narvaez, who allegedly then pushed past him and punched him in the stomach, police said.
Officers responded and helped detain the suspect, finding he had six pairs of jeans stuffed in his clothes, police said.
The merchandise, worth about $380, was returned to the store, police said
