NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Fla.Aug 4 2009
(WSVN) –
Police are still searching for one of those accused of killing a security guard after a dash and crash following a weekend robbery at Aventura Mall.
Monday afternoon, police announced they are searching for a woman involved in the death of 40-year-old Emily Anderson and the severe injury of her partner, 35-year-old Charles Edward Hall.
Police said 26-year-old Exzavier Robinson drove the getaway car while his accomplice rode on the hood in the mall parking lot, at around 8 p.m. Sunday. “I think, in order to avoid being hit by her fellow suspect, she jumped on the hood of the car. He traveled a small distance with her on the hood, and then, according to witnesses, she apparently got back into the vehicle, and that’s when the vehicle fled the mall area,” said North Miami Beach Police Detective Armando Sotero.
The robbery took a deadly turn after, police said, Robinson blew a stop sign and T-boned the Bryant Security car, killing Anderson and severely injuring her partner. According to police, the pair fled the scene in a Silver Chrysler 300 and crashed at the intersection of Northeast 179th Street and 15th Avenue. “They fled the mall area in the silver vehicle that’s behind me, in the intersection,” said Sotero at the scene of the crash Sunday night.
Police said Robinson and the female subject tried to steal five purses worth about $500 each from the women’s department at the Macy’s Department Store inside the Aventura Mall. They only got away with two when Bryant security officers gave chase.
Daniel Romero heard the crash that lead to Anderson’s death. “People from blocks away were on the ground within 30 seconds,” he said. “It really sounded like a bomb went off.”
Alex Gaines had been neighbors with Anderson and said she worked many long hours for her living. “She worked hard. She was a workaholic, though. Sometimes she would work 24 hours,” he said.
Police said the suspects nearly ran down two security officers as they fled the mall. Robinson, however, told a different story at the accident scene. “He had said that he had got hit by one of the cars,” Romero said.
Robinson was hospitalized at Jackson Memorial Hospital with a broken leg. Hall, meanwhile remains in critical condition at the same hospital.
Witnessed watched Robinson’s accomplice flee the crash scene on foot. “She went running that way without nothing,” Romero said. “She was barefooted with no sandals, no shoes, nothing.”
Police hope surveillance video from the mall will help lead to the arrest of the woman. If you have any information on this robbery or where that female suspect may be, call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS. Remember, you can always remain anonymous, and you may be eligible for a reward.
