Family questions why special police officer killed man www.privateofficer.com
The incident happened Friday night when a young man just released from jail argued and then fought with an apartment building security guard. The guard pulled his weapon and fired, killing the man.
The shooting drew little attention, but now the family of 31-year-old Michael Parker is demanding answers.
I can’t get no information. All people can tell me is that they’re sorry for my loss and you can go do this, this and that,” said Cheryl Parker, the victim’s mother. “I want answers. I want to know what really happened.”
Officially, police say the shooting is under investigation but sources tell ABC 7 News it’s likely no charges will be filed against the special police officer. They say Parker had caused trouble at the building before and was under orders to stay away after his release from jail.
As they plan a candlelight vigil Wednesday night, Parker’s loved ones say it all just seems wrong. “People do stuff every day but for him to just take somebody’s life like that — that wasn’t fair. We want justice served that’s just the bottom line,” said Melva Johnson, the victim’s cousin.
Police have not identified the security guard involved. Sources say he works for a private company
